Bag Secured! HBCU's get $16 billion from Biden-Harris | Roland Martin
Today, the Biden-Harris Administration announced a new record in Federal funding and investments in Historically Black Colleges and Universities, totaling more than $16 billion from Fiscal Year 2021 to now.
Those funds came from the following:
Nearly $4 billion for HBCUs through the American Rescue Plan and other COVID relief legislation. These grants funded through the Department of Education and other agencies have helped HBCUs support students' ability to meet basic needs; support campus operations, staffing, teaching, and educational programs; and keep campuses and the surrounding communities on the path to an equitable recovery;
$2.6 billion from the Department of Education to build institutional capacity at HBCUs. These efforts support the growth and sustainability of HBCU degree programs; increase and enhance human, technological, and physical infrastructure for research; strengthen positioning to secure direct partnership opportunities; and create sustainable fund development;
Over $1.6 billion to HBCUs through Federal grants, cooperative agreements, and other competitive funding opportunities that drive the advancement of academic and training programs, community-based initiatives, and research innovation across national priorities such as medicine and public health, climate science, agriculture, emerging technologies, and defense;
Almost $950 million to support HBCUs in growing research capacity and related infrastructure to better compete for Federal research and development dollars;
Nearly $719 million in grant funding to expand STEM academic capacity and educational programs; and in other high-wage, high-demand fields such as computer science, nursing, and allied health;
Over $150 million in Federal contracting opportunities awarded to HBCUs, including for research and expansion of STEM education programs at the Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Transportation, Department of Energy, and U.S. Agency for International Development;
$1.6 billion in capital finance debt relief for 45 public and private HBCUs. Discharging these debts has enabled these institutions to focus resources on supporting students, faculty, and staff while recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic; and
Over $2.4 million in Project SERV funds to support HBCUs affected by more than a dozen bomb threats in 2022. These grants have helped restore safe learning environments and invest in student mental health and well-being for students

I hope they USE THE MONEY WISELY. The majority of that should go to BUSINESS INCUBATORS FOR STARTUPS!!! Providing startup capital will help launch many businesses that will EMPLOY THEIR STUDENTS AND CREATE DONORS TO SUSTAIN THEIR SCHOOLS WITHOUT GOVERNMENT. That is how the PWIs are so successful without even without government grants. Their students have high entrepneurship rates which employ their students and they are able to become donors to support schools.

Also, many HBCUs are OWED money from the government.
This says they support funding, but this funding is owed Now, not to mention the decades of funding that was denied, talking is cheap, there’s No direct action being done. Every other group has No problem getting direct immediate funding, but the BC votes for Nothing in return. Symbolism, talk, investigations, analysis, barbecuing, chicken appearances is an insult. Cut the Check!!!
Hate to break it to you but the small percentage of black folks who are impacted by that HBCU money pales in comparison to the amount of Americans who would be impacted by the reclassification of Marijuana. That's why he's not leading with that. I also think the idea that the average black person in the middle of this hellish inflation is going to see money going to HBCU's and be more motivated to vote for them if they're not already voting for them is shortsighted. I'm a Howard Alum and attending Howard now and no one in my family is going to be extra motivated by that. Also unfortunately because HBCU's are so under funded to begin with the money they give always feels like it doesn't make an impact because they're constantly trying to catch up with yesterday. A lot of the students hear this and ask where's the money going because our issues are still our issues.

Congress makes appropriations and passes bills. The President signs off on bills. Please pay attention and vote in local and state elections for your representatives and see what happens. He couldn’t even wipe 10k worth of student loan debt out what makes you think you’ll get reparations when no one in congress is discussing it let alone a bill. All I hear from the local state reparations committees discuss it and then nothing happens. Start there. 😊
When the panelists/guests speak, please have their names displayed. 😊
Is this strictly for HBCUS or will other kinds of universities get access to this money? And when will the 1890 landgrant issues be addressed? I'm taking the win though. Just want to know will the states still hold this money back from being granted in some capacity
