Feds Say Southern States Owe HBCUs Billions In Funding! | America In Black
Ойын-сауық
Historically Black Colleges and Universities produce 80% of Black judges and 50% of Black doctors in America. They’ve cultivated some notable names in politics, music and athletics. From Vice President Kamala Harris to Shannon Sharpe to Megan thee Stallion; HBCUs have the power to uplift their students. However, calculations by the federal government show that some HBCUs are owed billions of dollars from their state legislatures.
On assignment for AMERICA IN BLACK, CBS Saturday Morning co-host Michelle Miller traveled to Tennessee State University to investigate the scarcity in funding given to HBCUs. #BET #AmericanInBlackBET #HBCU

For example in Louisiana funding was sent to Louisiana after a hurricane but the republican governor said to Obama Admin. said people of Louisiana does not need the money. But a few months last there was an oil spill in the gulf, BP the oil company who is a sponsor for this Louisiana governor who was a presidential candidate asked for money for BP despite denying the people he represented for Hurricane relief. Texas, Obama sent money to Texas for hurricane relief especially in the Galveston and Houston areas ... they never got it. The governor choose to pay off their 7million debt and pocket the rest.

"Yesterday", very good response. The Governor does not want Yesterday as his view. He also should pay Tennessees debt.
this is nothing new, but the federal government under both parties never filed federal lawsuits against the states at any times or put the stop to them from moving money that should of went to HBCUs to PWIs. Maybe instead of partying it up with the Vice President, maybe the student reps should be holding the VP accountable for the federal government not suing or bypassing the states and giving that money directly to the HBCUs.
It really does boil down to doing what's right, and to right versus wrong. The HBCUs have a very strong legal case here, so long as they don't fire off in twenty different directions and diffuse their energies. Godspeed...
The fact that the historically black colleges can, and do, produce excellent students should not be seen as extraordinary in terms of black achievement. We know that everyone has the capacity to achieve and excel in any and all areas of endeavour. The fact that achievements are made and documented among HBCUs and in society as a whole, despite a lack of funds, up-to-date equipment and facilities, shows not only the resourcefulness of the black education institutions, but also their determination to rise above the constraining factors that are imposed on them.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the only reason HBCU’s have struggle and even closed down over the past few years. Corruption, mismanagement of funds and resources have plagued these institutions as evidenced by many accusations or some form of embezzlement taking place. Unfortunately, for some of those schools, it would’ve just been more money to squander. Just look at some of the issues that were highlighted at JSU and other HBCUs during Coach Prime’s time at JSU. Money alone isn’t the issue, it’s not having the right people in place to help these institutions to reach their full potential. As a former HBCU student, I’m hoping they can recover those funds, but they have to get serious about the real problems that have been hindering their progress. It’s like they say, a fool without money will still be a fool with money!💴 🎉🤔🧐

Give them the money, the backpay, and the INTEREST on that money and backpay. SOMEBODY has a very big fat overweight bank account that they have been stuffing stolen/withheld money into. SOMEBODY needs to be investigated! YESTERDAY!!!

I appreciate him so much, the media wants the black community to turn against him by calling greedy I say at least he's picking up these cases and helping black people hit these people wear really hurts in their pockets
And yet... Still We Rise 🙌🏿

Southern states owe 7 to 10 generations of stolen wages to our families too!
Unfortunately folk, the struggle continues…
The sad reality is that TSU will have to sue the state, to try and recoup some of that money...and chances are that they'll never get that money.
It's a shame corruption and double standards of racism toward black schools. Where is the money owed..
Where did all that money go that was donated the kids did'nt get none of it

Is it a Land Grant institution?
And make sure yall give Bethune cookman what's owed to them
This NOT happening would seem un-American.
Just like someone else said....THIS IS INTENTIONALLY DONE!!!
We always do more with significantly less. As a black businessman this is exactly why I demand my respect based on my excellence. Literally getting out the mud! 🙏🏽
Why is this on BET and not on CBS this morning with Gayle King?? or on CBS Saturday morning, maybe I missed this report but this should be broadcast everyday like the coverage of Gaza and Israel in my opinion.
…and NOTHING will be done about this. Thats the sad part.
Paid on full. With interest. On God.📈📊 No 🎓.
Sue them! If they hold this up for years continue to say something file more lawsuits
Yes they do!!!
Thanks sooo much making this video.
Think of this, in the same state, in same country. Yet treated differently 😔 the year is 2024
The reckoning is here. The riches of the wicked is set up for the righteous.
Can they sue the state?
He is a great Lawyer and he will do a great job.
It's time for the big pay up to our schools.
Bill Lee: he's basically telling us to move on and forget about it. 5:58 I'm so sick of them
unacceptable! give these schools what they are owed!
Bro I can't believe y'all man update your school equipment. Find a way this is cornball.
Having worked at the most prominent HBCU, I can say that these HBCUs need to learn to stop mismanaging the funds that they get before complaining.
Will they be able to ask for Interest too?! Pay them!
This is one of the best news story I have watched on youtube in years, I hope BET continues to post more news story.
Glenda Glover needs to be protected at all cost. 💛
Yesssssss ✊🏾 I'm so proud of y'all
My son told my last year that they owe his school A&T bout 3 billion dollars it might have been more because he was saying alot... they was talking about how they were trying to get it...he's now bout to be a sophomore... they still trying to get it😕
Like Poppa said on the chi where the money at
They need to do a major audit!
No 40 acres and a mule, no education funding.
WILD!!
Nobody who knows Tennessee, or any of the South, is surprised!
These people are stealing the money
The fact that Southern states like Tennessee would rather run up this amount of debt than to simply pay these schools WHAT THEY ARE OWED tells you everything you need to know. It doesn't help that most of these states are the POOREST overall in the nation. Consistently borrowing more than what they contribute in taxes.
Wow!
This is downright disgusting and pathetic. Enough has already been taken from us and also been discriminated against way too much. Give us the funding due to US‼️
This nation owes Black Urban school districts BILLIONS too💪🏽🖤1
