Badly Injured Seal Rescued

At first, the team didn’t know the extent of the seal’s injury until they released him from the rescue net. Despite the severity of his injury, he was ready to put up a good battle. His attitude is good news for us: he is strong and prepared to fight for his life. As so often, we are amazed at how resilient our seals are.

I've said it before & will no doubt say it again, Denzil, but your eyesight is as impressive as your speed 🙌🏻 That poor bull's wound may have stung returning to the sea after the line was removed but I can't imagine the relief all the seals must feel to finally be freed of the snare wrapped around them, that was getting ever tighter & more painful. You save so many lives; I know it's only touching on the problem & what is happening to inhabitants of the sea where we cant see them, but if all the seals you've rescued were gathered together in ine place, that would be an impressive colony of seals that would not be alive without your intervention. Thank you 🙏🏻 🦭

When you have to carefully poke around and decide the best way to remove the entanglement without hurting the seal worse than it already is, I know it's bad ... and it WAS. Thanks, Naude, Tony and Denzil, for the young bull's second chance. OCN is absolutely AMAZING 💙

This video should be shown to everyone who is part of the governments of countries that do not want to reduce the leakage of plastic into the oceans.. It is sad, yet perfectly normal, in colonies of tens of thousands of pinnipeds to see dead bodies lying on the beach. Natural causes like predation, starvation, and sickness prevent half the Cape fur seal pups from seeing year one. Older animals are also subject to diseases and injuries. We leave the dead bodies to the seabirds, jackals, and hyenas.

We see healthy recaptures every single day, proof that seawater acts as a very efficient wound cleaner and that Cape fur seals are extremely resilient animals. Therefore, it helps to remember that an entanglement will eventually kill them, but if it is removed, then their recovery is quite likely.

I really love watching all your videos and I appreciate your team work. The way you all search the seals with fish net and help those poor creatures is wonderful. Thanks to all the team members for their efforts.

This is a skill we wish we never had to develop, but we are unfortunately very experienced by now.
