It was the battle of Gravelotte (18th August 1870) between Prussian-Saxon forces and the French army. Here Moltke’s Germans suffered heavy casualties in their repeatedly failed attacks on the French position. However, it was due to the French commander’s incompetence and the outflanking movement of German reinforcements that eventually brought a decisive defeat to the French army.

This was Hitler's favorite march. The NS would play it whenever he made a personal visit. It was also adopted by the LSAH SS as their official march.

Agreed! It's called "Tod des Majors von Hadeln" by Carl Röchling from 1870. It shows the battle of Gravelotte was part of the German - French war.

Actually, if not for its fan in the 40ies, I would be the EMS/paramedic/field surgeon international anthem. Its theme is that of the western front ambulances of WW1. Listen again and you hear them.

​@@tz8785 The Badenweiler Marsch (original title "Badonviller-Marsch") is named after Badonviller, a village in Lorraine pillaged by the Germans in WWI. The village does not "sit on the German side of the Rhine".

Ah militarism. A cure for the ills of this world Honestly tho, I would love to see a modern German military parade with this being played by a band in the background. Soldiers, tanks, APCs, hummvees passing by with helicopters and fighter and attack jets flying by. Perfection

Now I'm used to listen to this march whenever I succeed in something.

I understand that the main two-note theme originated in emergency horn calls. Austrian fire engines still use this sound on their two-tone sirens.

This is a good marsch, i have it on an old shellac 78 rpm record from 1938

Baden is in the Southwest on the Rhine which forms the French border there, while Bavaria encompasses the Southeast (historically also only south of the Danube, Franconia isn't really Bavarian)

Korrekt. Wurde nur etwas eingedeutscht. Ist in übrigen auch nur so zu nennen wie du es gesagt hast. Die Bundeswehr z.b darf ihn nur Spielen wenn sie ihn unter diesem Namen nennt. Ansonsten nicht, Zeit das zu ändern.
