+CheGumby Nope. This is superior to the shittier so-called "punk" music they haphazardly played before. Dumb ass punker thinks musicians improving means they're getting worse. Punk is not just shallow music with shallow people, it is shallow and shitty music listened to by primarily ignorant non-musicians. Who shits on Bad Religion? The entightled "fans" of their primitive sound.
@CheGumby
8 жыл бұрын
+zargmatt I can appreciate people like Gutbrush above, preferring the "cleaner" sound Brett Religion had most of their commercial success with (even though I dislike it immensely). Your point of view though makes no sense at all. This is the bridge album that sorta combines the raw intensity of their 1st two records & the cleanliness of their future acclaimed albums. It's the tweener record signalling a return to the safe codifying confines of punk rock as repentant saviors of the sound. They were trying to return to the "punk" sound YOU readily bash above, yet you hail this record as some form of great musicianship. You assume I only listen to "shitty" "shallow" music, does that make me smarter when I listen to Rahsaan Roland Kirk, King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Nina Hagen, The Residents, Ben Harper, Pete Seeger, or Sebastian Bach? Musicianship is overrated if you actually prefer Ingvar Malmsteen's scales over Keith Morris' anything. (And yes, Greg Hetson was more interesting in both the Circle Jerks & Redd Kross)
@zargmatt
8 жыл бұрын
+CheGumby They should have become a prog rock punk cross over band. The Damned crossed over to what they wanted to play and MacKaye said fuck this shit and moved on. I can appreciate that they have grown as artists on this ep and later in Suffer, but its not the sound that they should have gone forward with. They could have changed the face of rock music itself, and not just by softening the sound for mainstream audiences down the line. They should have said fuck em if they can't take the synth. We will never know their true vision. I grew up on Suffer and Against the Grain but it is sad to me as an artist that they could never create the beautiful sounds they imagined before the negativity of this ignorant wave of punk/hardcore made it impossible to do so. The decline of western civilization took no prisoners during this dark age of music.

I was never big on being a poser or hanging out at Hot Topic, but I think that they sold out when they left Epitaph records, which I believe was before their Stranger Than Fiction album. I apparently being into poser punk really thought the the compilation album 80-85 (which features Public Service, Back to the Known, and Into the Unknown) was all pretty good. I also happen to enjoy Suffer, Against The Grain, and No Control. After that it goes a bit downhill, but 30 years is pretty impressive

All you wanna mall poser hot topic punks didn't truly get it but 'Into The Unknown' was a harbinger for the blasphemy that this band would turn into on 'suffer' and everything afterwards, That record is basically 'suffer' with a younger sounding greg and a little less commercial 'weird' sound. But they sold themselves and their fans out on 'Unknown' and never recovered.'Back To The Known' was a cheap attempt to recapture what they once were & recruit some older fans. But the sound didn't stick.
@Sean02112211 жыл бұрын
When I first heard this landmark release I felt like the lead singer had changed. I thought maybe they replaced greg temporarily. His voice changed from 'How Could Hell Be...' It is the transition musically and voice-wise to what they would forever become on 'suffer'. I love everything they did up to this record. This was the last relevant unique abrasive punk they made. From 'suffer' on they sound like processed, kissass, suckup, homogenized, boring, repetitive major label sellout piss!

Guybrush Threepwood I prefer the raw energy of the original over this rehashed attempt to recapture their punkity punk "punk".

+CheGumby I get that but i just think Bad Religion works much better when they sound "clean"

Along the way ... my all time BR favorite. Slow but catchy as f*
After that it goes a bit downhill, but 30 years is pretty impressive
yesterday =)
Man I was hoping this would be more like into the unknown
the word "sell out" is thrown around that much that its just lost all meaning now, I've even read comments saying RKL sold out when they signed to epitaph! even though they probably made fuck all compared to other bands who apparently haven't sold out.
It's no into the unknown
New Leaf should always be played after Along the Way.
FROGGER
strong backing vocals, make this album. the vocals sound bitchen. must have a dense isolated vocal room maybe in a garage, its sounds like the were recorded vocals are in a garage.

No doubt they sort of sold themselves out. But they have always been a band that are all about the music. Not only that they were pioneers. To me they are 100 percent punk rock.
"Like Tommy you are free, and you will not follow me"........who the fuck is Tommy?....I love this song, but don't know who Tommy is.

I always thought it was a Who reference to the "Tommy" rock opera. I could be wrong though.
35 views? Why don't listen anyone other than me to this album?
This album is pure sex. So are 99% of their stuff though.

How many 1000 page long books about punk rock did you write exactly? Since you are such deeply ingrained on the subject.
