Backyard swimming pool overhaul with a diy hoop greenhouse cover

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

We re-surfaced our old 9 feet deep in ground pool with a hot tub on the side and installed new tile. As part of the overhaul we also constructed a 24 ft diameter by 50 ft long hoop greenhouse enclosure made from chain link fence steel top rail and a greenhouse film covering. We used a hoop bender to form our own arches and built it in sections to slide it within out pool fence. Total budget for the cover was $2000

I’ve been talking about doing this. But starting with the pool. I want to have a garden on the winter. Well, and a pool. lol

I have thought about adding a separate greenhouse space at one end and seeing how well things do in the winter.

Do you have a link to your plans for the hoop house or any guide you followed? I was trying to build something similar but with pvc but wasn't working out lol. Love yours and want to try to build one similar.

I sort of followed this site www.buildmyowngreenhouse.com/hightunnelbenders5999.aspx, I bought a 24 ft bender from them years ago but only just used it. I noticed they don't sell a 24 ft bender any more. my one regret is i probably should have gone with 3 ft spacing on the hoops, it would help with the snow load. I used jigglygreenhouse.com/store/greenhouse-hardware/cross-connectors.html and i also got snap in connectors for the covering. Maybe I will do a how to video.

@@easycheesestudio6398 I forgot to ask, which width of pipe did you use? It looks like half inch from the video but can't be sure. I was trying to add up an estimated cost, would you say it was about 1k$?

@@barabbasrift8874 it is 1 3/8 in chain link fence top rail. it is available at home depot. They sell a 17 gauge version, I think 16 ga is available from fence places but is more money. My cover is 24 by 48 feet long with 13 hoops. I used 81 top rails, they have jumped from $12 to $18. About $200 in cross connectors, screws and snap clamps and then $250 dollars for 40x50 greenhouse film so a little under $2k but it is a pretty big cover

I didn't know that there were any youtube videos like this and thought I was the only one who thought this up!!! :D Just to try out my plan and to keep the cost down, I built ours out of PVC pipe and heavy painting plastic on a roll, from Lowes, and a plan out of my head!! :D I talked my husband and adult children into helping me with my crazy idea!! We live in northern PA, (near Erie), and were able to swim last year when the snow was in the air!! :D By heating the water with our outdoor wood burner, we were able to keep the 'pool room' between 70 and 80's degrees in the air, and while the temperatures were in the 30's outside!! On October 18, 2022, at 9:15 am, it was 37 degrees F. outside temp, 71 degrees F. inside the pool house, and 82 degrees F. in the pool water! :D We taped the plastic together to cover the PVC hoops over our inground 16 ft. x 32 ft. pool. The hoops were anchored to a rectangular wooden frame we built around the pool. Our pool is also in the woods, and we usually get frogs swimming in our pool as well, but it was nice to keep the frogs out!! It was WONDERFUL to keep all of the leaves and debris out of the pool for easy clean up this spring. We bought heavier, and wider, greenhouse plastic for next time, and metal hoops would be more stable as well. You definitely do have to build it and slide it down over the pool, as we can't walk on water!! :D . PVC was light enough to be able to carry, but metal would have been more sturdy. Great job! P.S. We kept ours up all winter and it made spring clean up a lot easier also!

Is the pool warm enough to swim in during winter.

No, by october it is cold enough no one wants to swim and the cost of heating it starts climbing rapidly. The cover keeps most of the junk out of the pool because we live near big trees and it is great when it rains in the spring

I put a cover over the top of the pool when we aren't using it to keep the evaporation heat loss down but the pool loses a lot of heat through the ground, our ground will freeze in the winter. if your ground stays warm then you have a chance.

Hello. I live in Florida. I need my pool covered because we have a lot of trees around it but usual enclosure is too expensive so this is a great idea but, my question is, is it going to be too hot in the summer inside it?? Thank you.

@@hazloconmigo4655 it could be, we are near Seattle in heavy tree cover and the ends are open in the summer so it isn't hot for us. But if the ends were enclosed it would be a lot hotter
