Ғылым және технология

Back-up UPS - APC BX1100C-IN
This UPS is rated at 1100VA or 660 Watts. Provides the necessary backup power to complete the work, and safely shut down the PC. It offered me a back-up time of 35 minutes, in normal mode, providing 100Watts of power to my PC (on idle). (27 inch monitor + PC + RGB Keyboard + Mouse).
During Gaming, it provided about 6 mins backup time in normal mode. (DirtRally2, 1080p resolution, Nvidia 1080ti 11GB graphics card). UPS gets really hot.
In the battery saver mode, it provided about 4 mins of backup during gaming session.

    Please remember UPS's are not meant for gaming for hours it just give you time to save your work, close the application and turn off your device safely. In 650w full load this UPS will hardly give you backup time of only 1-2 mins and in 240w it will give you 11 mins as mentioned by APC.

    Great video in all the aspects. Good cinematography, points well explained, clear audio and sensible audio levels, and all of this objective measurements. I virtually don't know anything about UPSs, so just wanted to know if this UPS can be directly connected to the 3-pin wall socket or needs to be connected to external battery. Needless to say, my doubt has been cleared. As mentioned by others, I too wish your video would have got more views and likes.

    This system is actually a cyber UPS and has a runtime of only 5 to 15 minutes irrespective of which load is there, be it a PC or just an internet modem. However, of you want to continue the gaming or wish to switch on the PC and start playing during a power outage, then you need to get a Home UPS. Home UPS is the large UPS with a 100 Ah battery. That can help in more efficiency. Besides, if the PC is not run and something else like laptop charger or internet modems are only run, it will last longer.

    Great video but I've been having trouble getting even 5 minutes of back up on my monitor let alone my PC. On using the PC with the UPS connected to the AC supply I see shutdowns every 10 minutes. Am I using it wrong? I connect the PC adapter to the one with batter back up + surge protection (top right socket) and the monitor too (top left socket). I turn on the AC supply to the UPS and see the green light come on. At this point upon pressing the power button on the UPS I can power on the PC but it crashes 10 minutes into the boot. This happens without fail. Am yet to get even an hour's run time with the PC connected to the UPS (which is still charging). Am I doing something wrong?

    Hi! Thanks! Is your model same as mine or the 600va? Firstly, i am trying to understand, if you have connected the UPS to AC mains and the mains power is on, it should never turn off, as it is connected to mains. Are you turning off the mains purposely to measure the backup time of UPS? When you turn on the big button on UPS, it needs to be a short press. Keeping it pressed for 2 to 3 seconds (when the mains power is off) will power on the UPS battery and it will start serving as backup. Is it new? If its old then battery may have weakened.

    I think it should do the job. Its as good as power failure for the UPS. When the ups turns on, the UPS fan might run for a minute and then stop. I have a similar scenario in my house. I have a home inverter. And when the power cut happens, the inverter kicks in. However, my UPS also turns on, as the inverter ia not so fast in power switching. The UPS after 15 seconds turns off and goes to using the mains power. Hope this helps.

    Good review! Well done. Can you please let me know how you feel about this UPS model in 2021? I am planning to buy one soon & want to know if your opinion after 2 years has changed. I would like it to power my Macbook Air and a 21-inch extended display. Also, at the moment I have my laptop, etc plugged into a "GM Modular 3058 G-Power 4+1 Spike Guard" adaptor. Can I connect this directly to the UPS?

  • @TechnoShare

    @TechnoShare

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thank you! Yes. Its a good UPS. I have not used backup power much as I have an inverter at home and the UPS never turns on due to this. But inverter takes a bit time (around half a second sometimes ) to switch to on when there is a power cut, And this gap is enough to turn off my pc. During Such times the UPS turns on quickly and provides the backup power and goes back to charging again. Battery life is good. Even today it is giving same backup time as earlier. (I did run it on UPS backup fully, some day as inverter ran out of power). Only thing is sometimes the fan turns on (during charging also durian backup). And its slightly noisy. But its fine. I have put it in the power saving mode. The backup time is less in this mode. But the battery will last longer in its life. I think even today, this one is the most rated UPS on amazon and i could not find an equally good one on amazon. For the spike guard, I have not connected anytime. Have directly plugged the devices at the back of UPS. Its mentioned in the user manual that extension chords and spike guards should not be connected. Not sure why and what the side effects are. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

  • @TechnoShare

    Hey there! I think it should work for you. Mine is a 750w smps and 27 inch 4k monitor 60hz consumes about 30 Watts at 50 Percent brightness and contrast. During normal browsing internet it gave me 30 mins in normal mode. During heavy gaming it gave me about 6 mins. I was playing Dirt rally 2.0, on 60fps, 1080p and GPU is nvidia 1080Ti. In the power saving mode its gave me less backup time around 3 to 4 mins while heavy gaming. While gaming during backup, The UPS became very hot and i smell plastic. Works fine though afterwards. So since your Configuration is slightly same or on the lower side, i think you can also expect the same backup times. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching 🙂👍

    Hey there! So, the UPS will work fine when you play games, and there is no power cut. ie you are using the Mains power. However, during a powercut and if you are playing game, then the backup time will be very less. Very less when compared to browsing activity or normal work. I have similar configuration. 750w psu, 27 inch 4k monitor, nvidia 1080Ti, intel i7. While gaming in 1080p, I got 4 minutes in the power saving mode and in normal mode around 6 to 7 mins. Had to switch off in the middle of 6 minute as I started to smell plastic, as UPS was getting heated, with fan spinning. Didn't want to take any chance! It works fine though. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

I was planning to use an Everyready extension board to this UPS. You mentioned that a spike strip should NOT be connected to the UPS. Please suggest how can I extend the ports if I run out of them? Also, can you please tell me if this is made in India or China? I don't want to contribute in anyway to China through my purchase. Thanks a lot!

    Hi there!! Thanks for you comment :😊. Yes, It is also mentioned in the user manual. Extension box should be avoided as you will end up drawing all power from a single socket on the UPS. Not sure if the socket or the UPS can handle all the power from 1 socket. Hence its better to distribute the load from all the output sockets from the UPS. There are a total of 4 output sockets. Perhaps you can make use of the same. Cant find any other solution!. It is made in India 😊, In Uttarakhand. Thanks for watching!!

  • @TechnoShare

    @TechnoShare

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi there! Your requirement seems to be unique..Even I was also planning to by a synology NAS and was on a hunt for a good UPS, for safely shutting it down. But anyway, I did not buy the NAS as its too expensive. I just tested the UPS for a similar setup as yours. I connected it to my 55 inch Letv LED tv, tata sky Set-top box (recording box), philips sound bar and a chordless phone. The tv consumed a power of 85 Watts and the remaining appliances add up to around 50 to 60 watts. Total of around 130 to 140 Watts. With this, I got a backup time of 32 minutes, and I got the low battery beep sound after that. So, I think it might work for your requirements as well, as long as your TV and other appliances add up to the same number. Hope this helps! Do like 👍and subscribe 👆to my channel if it helped! Q) does the internet continues when main power goes off? Q) i have a laptop charging 3 pin, one additional monitor with 3 pin, wifi 2 pin, presently all are inserted in the extension box. With this UPS do i just put the extension 3 pin in it or put all the 3 pins to ups directly? Thanks, very nice video.

    Hi there! I have not connected the router to this ups. Its backed up by home inverter. And whenever the power goes off, the home inverter is quick in switching and I get the internet without interruption. In your case, you can connect the router also to the ups, so that you get Internet during power cut. Also, you need to connect the individual devices directly to the UPS. As per the manual, it is not advised to connect extension box. I think since you have battery in laptop, you may only have to connect monitor and router to the UPS. It can accept both 3 pin and 2 pin plugs. Hope this helps! Thanks for your comments! Please do like👍 this video and subscribe 👆 for more 🙂

  • @TechnoShare

    @TechnoShare

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey there! Even mine is a 750W PSU. Intel, i7. with 1080Ti Nvidia GPU. My gaming experience on 1080p, max settings, gave around 6 mins of backup time. UPS got hot, hence I switched off at the end of 6 mins. But anyway, the battery was almost over by that time. Power consumption was roughly around 300W to 400W, including the 27 inch monitor. Perhaps you may want to estimate your total power consumption during gaming, as your GPU may be little power hungry. If it is within the rated power of 660W, then it will work for you. But you may want to think on the backup time of less than 6-7 mins. Hope this helps!

I was able to run all these for more than 10-15 mins. Your tv power consumption as per specification id 373 watts. In reality it could be lesser due to reduced brightness,sound etc. Xbox i am not sure. If its around 200 or 250 watts,m (during gaming), then it may work. If this UPS is providing backup to my laptop and monitor and is located right next to it, will the other person over a skype call notice it much? Hi there! About the fan noise, it is noisy. But it will turn on when running on battery or when charging. Otherwise it is off. Funny part is the fan kicks in when i power off ups by the button on ups and switch off mains. It runs for 5 mins and stops. About noise during conference calls, it is a tricky question. Skype has noise suppression in-built. So, I am not sure if it will be heard to the other party. Beeps cannot be disabled. It will beep every one minute i guess. Thanks for watching 😊👍

    Hi bro, is it good to turn off battery saver while connected a 22 inch led monitor and a 15.6 inch laptop to the outlet of ups?

  • @TechnoShare

    @TechnoShare

    3 жыл бұрын

    Battery saver is meant to increase the battery life of UPS. It basically changes the charge levels of the battery to a lower level. As such, if turned on, then you get slightly lesser backup time. So, it matters only when you are using the UPS in backup mode ie when no power. So, you need to decide if the shorter backup time is sufficient for you with 2 monitor. If not, you can turn the battery saver off. I personally have kept mine on. Battery life seems to be good even after almost 3 years. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching 👍🙂

    Hi there!! It could be possible that, when it is running on battery, the output load is above the capacity. You may try to reduce the load by disconnecting unwanted devices connected to the UPS. It could also be a problem, where there is a short circuit in the output terminal of the UPS. For this, you can try disconnecting the devices one by one and seeing, if the issue gets resolved, there by identifying the faulty device connected. There are other scenarios, for which the red LED blinks, and the tone beeps vary in the blink frequency and beep pattern. Please do check this manual and it has been given in detail on page no 8. download.schneider-electric.com/files?p_File_Name=JGNY-A297BQ_R2_EN.pdf&p_Doc_Ref=SPD_JGNY-A297BQ_EN&p_enDocType=User%20guide Hope this helps!! Anyway, you can put it for charging and leave it for couple of hours and once it is fully charged, the charging LED indicator will turn off and it will stop charging beyond this point. Then you can start using it. Also, I think, you have the right spec for this UPS. I have similar specs too, but a little power hungry than yours. Mine is a 750W PSU, intel i7, 16GB RAM, nvidia gtx 1080TI GPU and 27 inch monitor. So far, its been more than a year, and It does back up when ever there is a power cut. Hi there! How it works? When there is no power cut, then the AC mains is fed into the power outlets of the UPS. So, any device connected to the UPS receives the AC mains power. In case of power cuts, there is a 12V/24V sealed lead-acid DC battery inside, that provides the backup power. A transformer boosts up the voltage to 230V AC and provides it to the power outlets at the back of the UPS. When the power cut happens, the UPS detects it, and switches very fast to the backup power, and provides the power almost continuously at the UPS outlets. The switching time is in milliseconds, and hence we wont detect the delay at all, as its very fast. Hope this clarifies your doubts. Thanks for watching!

I haven't tried anytime connecting tv to ups. Hopefully it should work i believe if the power rating of tv is less than the rated power of ups. If the total power consumption is less than 360w it should be fine. I would keep a bottom line of 300w instead of 360w. Else go for the one that i have bought. Hope this helps.
