The whole story should have been told. Her previous births were c-sections. As a nurse she should have known that this was a bad idea.

What this story doesn’t tell you is this mother had TWO prior C-sections, and that she probably should not have attempted a vaginal delivery much less a homebirth. I saw this story on another newscast. Also, the mother was an ER nurse. Her uterus tore because it was weakened because of two prior C-sections.

Okay. I had a c-section, a vaginal birth, a c-section, a vaginal birth and then two more c-sections. Maybe as a nurse she saw people have c-sections and then vaginal births?? It doesn't matter now does it? People usually think that being skinny means they are safe and nothing can go wrong, that's a societal problem. Birth is risky, every woman takes a risk but with a medical degree and her past experience she didn't call 911 herself or her husband?? Didn't they recognize she wasn't well?? That makes no sense. I think he lies. She didn't do a vaginal check but why? Why also did she not check vitals?? It makes no sense.

Im a nurse I feel horrible for this family but it was not a good idea to try a home birth after the complications from previous deliveries. The mid wife was Negligent but no medical provider should have tried a home birth. There are rules and based on the rules she should have never tried to deliver at home.

I bet her doctor advised her not to. She more than most know the dangers.

This is absolutely terrible. Im a retired RN and dont understand how a fellow RN would EVER risk a VBAC homebirth? It’s just too risky. Im so sorry for het husband and children who are left to pick up the pieces!!

When you imagine a sparkling Christmas birth and prepare with a videographer but not a failproof emergency plan.

I saw this on another news cast. The true victims here are the two children who lost their mother when they didn't have to. It's scary that she wanted to be an OB/GYN nurse and midwife, but somehow thought she could have a safe home birth with her medical history. Dad had this unrealistic fairy tale in his head...a videographer, but no emergency plan? And then the midwife...how did she not monitor vital signs and other important cues? The real victims are the children, not these adults.

In college I decided if I ever had kids, is want a midwife because midwife are trained to handle the everyday birth and doctors are only trained to handle the 2-5% that go horribly wrong. From my research at the time a trained midwife is supposed to know when the risks are to high for an in home birth before labor begins and trained to spot the signs that a woman and or the baby needs a doctor before the intervention is needed an either is in serious danger. Im horrified to learn this one failed in her duties so horrifically

I’m confused why the mid wife wasn’t monitoring the mom and didn’t pay attention to the mom’s color and wasn’t properly monitoring mother and baby . Absolutely ridiculous she should’ve lost her license way before this outcome . This should’ve never taken place at home . I’m surprised that the nurse agreed to move forward with a home birth

This is heartbreaking news! The conservative states are so concerned to take away a woman's right to an abortion that they put strict rules in place for doctors yet refuse to give the same protection in place to pregnant women wanting a home birth with a midwife!

The midwife may have her license revoked due to her poor practices. Also, the mother was a nurse and aspiring midwife, so she knew the birth was high risk based on her two previous complicated c-section births. The couple’s home was in a rural area, too far from the hospital if an emergency occurred. The tragedy is not related to abortion laws.
