    Marv has got to be the unluckiest person in the series. He had an encounter with an entity that mimics voices and survived, now he's being held hostage from a crazy abandoned Async employee and had to witness his friend Mark die in front of him. I hope the poor guy gets a break if he survives.

No cliche or cringy lines or humour, no stupid decisions made by the 3 and above all no cheap jumpscares for some scare factor to be included. The thing that separates Kane Pixels from the rest of the backrooms channels is that they understand what makes the backrooms terrifying. It's the realistic movement to the human models that conditions you to view "organic" movement in a particular way, so that when you see something moving in an inorganic or otherworldly manner, it automatically feels intensely surreal. It's the fact that the entire video isn't just one linear journey, but many different segmented clips that give you a very limited amount of information so you still feel completely lost at the end of the video. It's the creativity of the camera angles, that it's not always just some dude in a suit holding a camera and walking around, sometimes it's a rover or sometimes we see what happens from a camera that's been dropped already. It's the idea that we don't get to see literally everything around the scientists/explorers; we again get a very limited amount of information about the environment they're in, what potential threats reside there or even what they look like in detail. We don't even get to see Peter, we don't know if he was disfigured or transformed in some way by the backrooms. The only reason you know most of what you know about each level of the backrooms in general or the entities that exist in those spaces is because of _other backrooms channels_ that go too far in explaining everything to death. This channel understands the concept of "less is more". I don't want to fully understand what I'm watching, and I want to be immersed. This channel knocks both of those things out of the park, it's why the entertainment value of this content is truly timeless.

    Ok so just to recap: - The coordinates of the coffee mug, if placed in Google Maps, lead to a lab in the real world called the MLML which may be somehow connected to the "I remember..." video where the narrator mentions that he lived in "a mannor overlooking the sea" - The first man with glasses at the start was one the scientists reviewing the Pitfalls footage during the Report video. - The wooden door is the part that leads further into the backrooms and the pitfalls which was sealed off at the end of the Report video as a security meassure. - Mark (the one with the shotgun and gets shot) is also the one who went through the door in the Pitfalls video and called unto Marvin (cameraman again) who fell down. - "Marvin's Friend" is the nickname they give the entity Marvin encountered in Pitfalls - The part in the Pitfalls where the camera zooms into the odd tile is where Marvin fell through and it's left open, presumably to investigate more. - The dude that attacks him is Peter. He's the one that "got lost" in the Informational video (for hours which then turned out to be months) and sets off the alarms when he goes forward in time into the control room at the end of that video. He's also the same one we see at the end of Presentation video. Apparently, he was friends with Marvin (or at least knew him). - For what we know, for some reason, A-Sync faked his death after he disappeared and then when he came back they didn't take him back in and so it appears he had to leave it and hide in the backrooms. - If you put the captions in the hidden video in the description of Reunion, you will understand they're talking about his (Peter's) re-appearance that day (during the Presentation video) and the newspaper is flipped and mirrored to show that the way they covered his death was by a car crash near a vineyard which resulted in a fire.

    After watching this, I'm so excited for the now-confirmed film. If Kane Pixels is really writing this, then they totally understand how to write drama. The moment the two diff parties encountered each other, the emotional build-up came to a climax: just two different groups of humans completely displaced and traumatized by the Backrooms and reduced into fearful animals that are an inch beyond killing each other: that's what it's all about. Not the endless maze, not the entities ... just the loss of humanity, the hours that feel like a lifetime lost inside of fear itself. Losing yourself, your humanity, inside of an unrelenting nightmare is the ultimate horror.

    “that’s what it’s all about” Honestly couldn’t disagree more. The whole point of the backrooms is to explore liminal spaces and the unease that they cause. It is quite literally all about the endless maze. It’s KanePixels’ series, he can do what he pleases, but the backrooms is not his concept. The groups of humans killing each other and the entities aren’t what make the concept of the backrooms so interesting and unique.

  • @Osodjrhrb

    @Osodjrhrb

    Жыл бұрын

    @@graystone2802 I mostly agree with you, I was just excited by the episode and going off on a tangent. I would say my point is a little bit contestable, so I’ll dig into just for fun: One of the main reasons the Backrooms are so eerie is because they are closely tied to our everyday reality, yet devoid of any purpose or identity of their own. Liminal spaces are basically the bridge between two locations, such as the hotel being a stopping point between your beginning and ending location, the hallway being the space between two offices, etc. I think while we’re not so consciously aware of it, we derive a lot of our humanity from a sense of motion between liminal spaces, departing and arriving at spaces which serve specific purposes and reflect different aspects of ourselves and the roles we play in society - that’s why you have a living room, an office, a concert hall, a personal bedroom, etc. You could say each space has its own soul, or identity. When liminal spaces - which literally have no identity besides being a space in-between spaces, and are usually sparse in their design - become the destination, we lose touch with the places, roles and experiences that make us who we are. Therefore, through prolonged isolation in liminal spaces, we lose our humanity and our sense of self.

  • @graystone2802

    @graystone2802

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Osodjrhrbthat’s an interesting way to look at it, I think I agree with almost all of it. The only thing I think doesn’t sit well with me is the transition space idea, I’ve heard it a few times. I don’t think liminal spaces are connections between locations, locations that don’t exist, locations that are nostalgic, or any of these types of definitions. I think the only real way to define them is just a location that doesn’t fit it’s intended context. hallways that don’t connect anything, stairs that go nowhere, old unused bedrooms, public places with no people, like your empty concert hall. Seeing any location in a different context than we expect makes it liminal. I think it’s common with transition spaces because it is simple to create one that simply doesn’t connect what it is supposed to, but restricting the definition to this doesnt capture what actually makes them liminal. The eeriness comes from the uncertainty that follows when our expectations are subverted. But although I don’t think liminal spaces are directly related to destinations or in-between spaces, I do agree that when places we are familiar with suddenly become unfamiliar, they lose their identity and we lose touch with roles and experiences that make us who we are

    Here's something that I *very much* appreciate about the craftsmanship of this episode: in the pitfalls room at 6:13, the camera actually focuses on that one ledge that's anomalous to all of the others (overhang + shadow, not flat) that we could see in previous shots, and then at 7:02, we see that, because something is just.. different there, they are basically fencing it off instead of just putting a pathway over it like the other holes. Something is different about that ledge/walkway, and they aren't taking chances. Superb attention to detail there.

    What I truly love about this one is it does a neat trick with the viewers expectation. During this video we expect a entity to show up, it’s what we have been groomed into thinking by the other videos in this series that are in this style of exploring the backrooms. However the twist of it being a person trapped in here(as well as the same dude from previous videos) is such a neat twist, it didn’t try to over hype us and give us nothing, but it didn’t do what we expected. As well something about that shotgun blast felt so powerful, we’ve seen deaths in this series but never something so gruesome, never something so personal. This rises the stakes in new ways as well. Such a well crafted series, from visuals to story telling it is master class.

    Blown away by how Kane captures the 90s feel and aesthetic. Saw the first continuity error in the whole series so far: the shotgun was fitted with Magpul furniture. Magpul industries didn't exist back then, and didn't make shotgun accessories until this decade. A shotgun in 1990 would either have wood furniture or possibly black polymer furniture. Weapon mounted lights were also not a standard thing back then. If anyone was running one, it'd be a huge maglite taped or clamped to the gun somehow. Overall, a minor gripe about a detail i wouldn't expect a 17 year old in 2023 to know.

    @@arias3295 You must be young judging by how narrow your interpretation is, "humans are actually the monsters". Why are you looking for monsters? There are no monsters anywhere in this series, human or inhuman. This is a story of cosmic horror where the world progressively devolves into chaos and becomes impossible to make sense of. The entities are a side-effect, this was a side-effect, and we're gonna see more side-effects of this cursed creation. This will probably be the only human ambush we're gonna see, it was just one plot thread in this massive clusterfuck. Also everything in existence is 'cliche', there's absolutely nothing that hasn't been written or done before. Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, those are all twists on the classic superhero VS villains genre, it's the specific way that everything is weaved and presented that makes a story original. And sorry to break it to ya, but Kane has already firmly stated that the entities won't be primary focus, they're a device to add flavor and lead the story into new places.

    I strongly disagree. Lots of people at A-Sync are knowingly engaged in a criminal conspiracy. Participation is not limited to a few greedy masterminds in the executive suite & boardroom. Management, medical, security & perhaps scientific staff are involved even to the point of kidnapping, torture & murder (see "Damage Control"). These videos are beginning to seem rather dystopian in that sense. The willingness of the blandly ordinary characters to participate in collective evil reminds me of the Milgram experiments and the excuses offered by "ordinary Germans" after WWII. Kane's backrooms series is the most popular one for a reason. It's one of the few that still captures the feel of the original creepypasta. The dialogue is realistic and the protagonists actually have working brains.

    I just want to say that as someone who was alive in the 90s & has watched a lot of things on VHS, thank you for doing it so well. Most "analog horror" creators put Way too many vhs effects on everything, even when it doesn't make sense at all. You use it very well, in low light areas & with tapes that might have been distorted from the backroom energy the effects are heavier, & just normal walking & set up it's a lot less. Watching vhs tapes now from 30-40 years ago, especially home recorded or not stored perfectly, the effects will be heavier because the tapes have degraded, but back then they were a lot smoother.

    That's kinda how analogue horror works. The glitches DON'T make sense, thus the feeling that something is wrong. Also why they don't use Betamax format, because it's barely relatable as no one even used it when it was popular. Most people know what a video tape is and have some form of understanding of how shitty the recordings can be. And more people have the knowledge that if it's footage on VHS, it's probably something that happened a "long" time ago which adds to the mythos. The effects here may be too realistic, resulting in some VHS era drama series instead of horror. And "the gun"? There's no reason in hell there shouldn't be an armed team highly trained in firearms that are right in front of the exploration team every single expedition. The one plus I would give them in common sense ability is, go back to the room with holes in it, cover up the holes, and put railings around the ones you don't cover because you might want to check them out later without the aspect of accidentally falling into it. Granted there would be no story if no one fell down in the first place, but those are a good foot-wide or more walk ways between the squares. If you know your team is that prone to vertigo, yay. You solved A problem using brain power unlike random guy in bulky yellow suit who clearly has no sense of balance.

    Jesus Christ, I just had the freakiest experience while watching this video...Right at the the end when shit got crazy after the guy was shot, my desktop screen went completely black but I could still hear the audio of the video, and after a few seconds my monitor's 'No Signal' screen came up briefly, even though my computer was still on, before going black again. I had to turn off my monitor and turn it back on to fix it - I have never had that happen before. This series really is so fascinating and interesting, but boy does it creep me out!

    I don't know if he's also doing it, but the Corridor crew, when they did their 90's parody commercial, made their final pass by processing it through a VCR. If Kane did the same thing then it would also make the videos look similar to that time era.

    I hope Kane Pixels stays indie and isn’t bought out by some studio, which will want to overlay all kinds of market based objectives into the content. This is amazing work because it’s organic and the product of an “auteur”.

    I wonder how this is going to affect Marvin moving forward. Having dealt with the near-death experience in "Pitfalls" and now witnessing your partner who assisted you through that experience shot by none other than your former co-worker who was presumed dead, is quite the predicament and I am looking forward to see how he handles it and himself.

    watch this, it’s one of Kane’s ‘hidden videos’ and it provides some more details on when he was found. It is assumed that he was sent back in order to cover up the falsification of his death

    The dialog is fantastic. It's so natural and human. Just some boys shooting the shit, forgetting to turn on the light, joking about the gun/flagging people with it as they're obviously not very well trained with firearms. The general tone is very "realistic". Great job my man.

  • @ratfry
    @ratfry Жыл бұрын

    The dialogue in this one is brilliant. Little offhand remarks informing us about all of the problems with A-Sync beyond the incident at the end. Examples: - [4:00] "I'm not sure he has a full understanding of the situation..." / "I doubt he knows either, but you think that matters?" If they're referring to the higher-ups, it's a classic case of the admin not really understanding the full risk of this whole endeavor and more focused on results than safety/proper procedures. If they're referring to Marvin (less likely but possible) it may indicate he's made up his own theories about what's going on and, to feel safer, convinces himself that they must be true. Obviously this is both a negative scientifically and in a survival situation. - [7:20] The researchers discussing their rapid training in firearms (not good), one of them saying they wouldn't know the difference between the guns they trained with and the ones they're using now (really not good), [9:29] "hey, watch the gun!" (really, really not good). - [7:30] Marvin saying "I wouldn't want to be on the other end of that" to reassure himself that he's safe against the entity with a shotgun and his colleague not really understanding and sarcastically remarking that's true of any gun. Marvin obviously has trauma and A-Sync doesn't seem to get it. [7:40] Him being told to turn his light on again after spacing out is also a good display of this. - Marvin being way too curious and open to exploring. He wants to know as much as possible about the Backrooms to stay safe and make sense of his trauma. The fact that A-Sync even let him do it is bad enough for him, now they have the new risk of Marvin trying to get too much information and endangering others. [10:55] Almost even happened - "we're not that far." Goddamn I love this series. (Edited for typographical reasons)
