    *_It was a wet affair, both from the rain and from the high humidity. However, a great adventure, hats off that you did it under these conditions. You have shown wonderful nature and landscapes, wild waterfalls, streams, lakes, idyll at the campfire and again and again very beautiful forests. Nice show of your equipment, too. That was a great performance these two days to go outside and to stay overnight in the thunderstorm, that would not be my thing, I prefer to sleep in the dry ;-) :))) Great performance, thank you for sharing your experiences. Best regards from Germany, Angela_*

    I'm glad that you enjoyed the video! It's a good idea to unbuckle the pack when crossing in deeper water or a strong current.

    Awesome trip, man. It's amazing how similar that area looks, in many ways, to my neck of the woods, yet strikingly different in some ways as well. Beautiful place for sure, awesome cliff views, waterfalls, lake vistas, it has it all, and you even saw a porcupine! Nice! Good test of your gear too in the rain storms.

    Thanks! This is a very good place to go backpacking and I still have a few more trails to check out. I just started to edit my 42 1/2 mile hiking video at Pictured Rocks. It was hot, humid and buggy, but we survived.

    very cool that is essentially old growth forest.. beautiful green out there... nice waterfalls, wow what a great spot for a campsite! Amazing porcupine footage!! love the chicken mashed potato meal, looks like you got a super site yourself, good thing you are prepared for rain ! that view towards the end really is nice.. Excellent video thanks for taking us with you.. i know you have been around here before but this was an extra good trip i think

    Thanks!! 👍😀 My original plan was to make this a high mileage trip, but with the morning thunderstorms I decided to only hike about 22 miles for the 2 days. It would have been a little over 30 miles. The campsite along Lake Superior is one of my favorites. They had severe flooding just north of this area from the same storm. It still rained about 3" in this area.

    When you say the lake superior trail is a disaster, is that because of the high water? Would you not recommend that trail when it has been wet?

  • @uptrail7169

    The Lake Superior trail is nice when it's dry, but it can be a mess after a heavy rain. We had a video from a few years ago when it was a disaster after a heavy amount of rain.

  • @uptrail7169

    @uptrail7169

    The biting flies were just starting to come out when I went on this trip. It's worse for bugs if you get a wet weather trip around this time or if it's hot and humid. dryer weather or some wind will help for less bugs.

    We were just leaving there on Saturday the 16th. It was our first time at Porcupine Mountain we stayed at the Union Bay Modern Campground. We did the Union Spring trail in was a mess but managed to get through it. It seems you have backpacked often there have you ever seen a bear around the trails? I was quite nervous about running into one.

    The Union Spring Trail is one of the very few trails that I haven't hiked on yet. The wet and muddy areas do slow you down some, but we have done it many times over the years. Two years ago I saw a bear with her cub on the Lake Superior Trail. They went off their way without bothering us. Now you wouldn't want to get between them somehow.
