In this video, we'll be checking out the Backpacking Moka Pot. This handy little pot is perfect for camping, hiking, or any other outdoor activities.
If you're looking for a new backpacking gear option, be sure to check out the Titanium Moka Pot! This pot is perfect for camping and hiking, and it's easy to use and lightweight. Be sure to let us know what you think of it in the comments below!
NOTE The traditional stove top Moka pot uses steam pressure to drive the water from the lower chamber, up the funnel, through the coffee and into the upper chamber. If there is an over pressure in the lower chamber it’s released by the pressure regulator. There are very different pressures in all three of the chambers (lower, funnel and upper). This titanium Moka pot does not have a pressure regulator in the lower chamber but uses a small hole in the upper part of the funnel to equalize the pressure between the lower and funnel chambers. In order to drive the water up the funnel, you will need a much higher temp to overcome the equalized pressure created by the small hole (med-high to high heat). I’m not sure why it was built this way, but one can only assume that because the use case for this product includes outdoor use. Introduction of a pressure regulator that fails due to dirt or sand can lead to a catastrophic situation.

It could do with a bail handle in my case on open fire firebox stove I can’t use my gloves through the handle - also if you wanted to replace the seal what size would you need

Steve is pretty active in reading comments so I'm sure he will take this feedback. The top of the pot has a very pronunced lip which makes for interesting ways to attach a bail. As for the silicone seal, if you need a replacement, a quick call or email to firebox support can get you squared away. To answer you question though, the outside diameter of the top funnel is about 6.9 - 7cm.

@@offcourseoutdoors8366 I haven't tried out the Moka pot yet, but Firebox customer service is excellent. I'm bummed that I missed the crowdfunder for this moka pot though, because the only thing that's stopped me from trying a moka pot is that they're mostly too heavy for backpacking... though until I discovered this one earlier today, I thought they were ALL too heavy for backpacking :) Now I want one... when my budget allows it :)

Thanks for your thoughtful review. $79.00 is more than my L'Or electric coffee pod maker which came with a heap of pods included. But this stove top brewer is at a mid-way price point when compared to other mini portable espresso brewers. Alternatively, just use the jug brewing method. Add almost boiling water to your coffee in a jug. Wait for around 2 minutes. Draw a spoon across the top of the brew to encourage the grounds to sink to the bottom. Pour slowly into a mug, avoiding the residue grounds. Enjoy!

Thanks for the feedback! Its pricy, no doubt about that. I do enjoy a bit of cowboy coffee from time to time. I will try your method and report back. Thanks again for watching, cheers!

The Bialetti Moka pot method to prevent fines from getting into your coffee, and to prevent a burnt or bitter flavor, is to remove the Moka from the stove the instant you hear it begin to gurgle, which means the water reservoir is almost empty so air is being sucked through the pipe. Then set it on your countertop to finish brewing from the residual heat inside the pot. Then stir up the most-concentrated coffee from the bottom with a teaspoon and pour. You'll see leftover brown water full of fines in the bottom reservoir, which is good because if that water had gone through from leaving the Moka on the stove for too long, it would've dirtied and diluted your coffee. So try removing the Moka from the stove the instant you hear it begin to gurgle. It will have enough heat inside the pot to finish filling up.

I got the bigger 400 ml of this Moka pot . It’s a screw type instead of a twist type. I use it to make two cups at a time. I’m not to crazy about the cleaning afterwards though. Thanks for sharing 😉👍

@offcourseoutdoors8366 I'm not promising that nothing will happen. I've used one in a standard Moko pot, nothing bad happened. It's not an original idea. I got it from KZreadr sprometheus, who has videos on making coffee.

I bought this exact same moka pot. Based on your video. On my 2nd time making coffee with it, the thing literally blew up in my face, leaving me and my wife burned pretty bad. I cannot recommend this to anyone for any reason. This moka pot is extremely dangerous!
