I found your channel through Artemis and I just gotta say thank you so much for getting this challenge rolling. It has exposed me to so many other channels and hikers. I usually follow a couple of hikers each year, I may have a dozen I’m watching now. I don’t know how I’m going to watch them all once they all hit the trail, a good problem to have! Thanks again, you rock sir!

Another great video! My luxury/comfort items: A pint of Yukon Jack. My OV pillow, (basically the same as the Trekology). If there aren't any burn bans and I can have a fire; my Sven Saw, or Bahco, and a big knife for processing firewood...nothing like relaxing by a small, warming fire at the end of a long day...

Hey thanks for the encouragement! I will bring the Bahco as well for shorter winter trips when there is tons of snow. Normally I'll just find down firewood but with snow covered ground the saw helps a ton! I think it weighs maybe 7oz or something. It's a great saw!!

Great video! Makes me feel a little less bad about some of the stuff I bring, lol! My top luxury item is the GSI Coffee Rocket! There is nothing worse than crappy coffee while camping, so I bring this! I even have fancy coffee that I bring and can only purchase when I visit Jasper National Park, lol! I have also been thinking about switching my air pillow to a foam core one, because as you say, a good night's sleep is important!

I carry 2 sleep pads. The closed cell foam stays regardless of the fact I have an inflatable. Folded, it's a short stool to sit on the ground, partially unfolded it's a sit pad, I can toss it out to lay down and stretch on breaks. Combined with the air pad it makes sleeping on my side better and adds insulation if it's colder than expected...

My orange frisbee is my 175 gram comfort item. I use it as a TV tray while I’m eating - it’s so much better than balancing stuff on my legs without it. I use it as a gear tray so if I dump out my bag of assorted goodies, everything is all contained and off the ground. It can be used as a fan for the fire when I’m already sitting on my sit pad and don’t want to get up. I keep my shoes in it (under the tarp next to my hammock) if rain is coming so any water that creeps under has to be at least an inch deep before my shoes get wet. It’s a nice light diffuser to put over a headlamp or flashlight when I want some indirect light. A paper plate fits perfectly in it for car camping! I consider it an emergency signal because it’s big and orange and I can throw it up in the air to attract attention. It can be used as a scoop shovel for snow. I can put it under a drip point of my tarp if it’s raining to collect water. And last, but not least, it’s a great frisbee to throw with a friend or throw at trees if I’m solo! I guess it’s not a comfort item, it’s a very useful tool for many different applications. But I consider it a comfort item because it’s a toy that most people would laugh at if they were to see it in my pack.

I am 5" 3" and weigh a hundred pounds or less, but I bring an extra wide sleeping pad. And the pad has to be 3 inches thick. I also carry a pillow, but it's a necessity not a luxury... LOL The trouble with the extra wide sleeping pads is there usually extra long too. I'm contemplating cutting some off and stealing it back up. But every time I pick up the scissors I chickened out. My base weight is 11 to 12 lb depending if I bring the chair. Oh wait I guess the chair counts as a luxury item too.

I hammock camp so my campsites are in areas with trees. I know you can use your hammock as a chair but it's nicer to actually have a separate item to use as a chair. For that comfort I use the Terrapin Outfitters Hatchling Hammock Chair. I hang it from two trees usually away from the hammock. Later before going to bed I relocate it under my hammock as a catch all ( Under hammock ) for my shoes and pack . Next item is a consumable liquid so I don't count the weight , A emptied and cleaned Instant Breakfast ( Carnation Breakfast Essentials ) bottle filled with a good Bourbon. 8oz fluid capacity. That dictates the next item which doubles as a adult beverage cup , coffee cup and measuring cup , not necessarily in that order . A 1.1/2 cup liquid measure the GSI Outdoors Infinity Stacking Cup. After camp is set up relaxing in the chair ( lounger ) with a good drink and nothing to do is really enjoyable.

@@DanBecker Unlike a hammock where the ends are tied off at basically the same height. With the chair the ends are tied off at different heights. This way you can hang it anyway you want it , a lounger or a high back chair or anything in between. Mine weighs 4.8 ounces and loosely packs at 7 inches and 3 inches in it's own stuff sack.. The two straps are a total of 2.6 ounces. Making a small 7.4 ounce package. It has a continuous loop at each end so there is a variety of ways it can be hung.

I always brought a folding bucket from sea to summit and also a backpacking chair from a light but not anymore. Too bad. I always always bring a 3 inches thick 2 pounds Cushing mad to sleep on during the winter time when I go back to packing and we’ll always bring it. I always bring a very small tarp to put on my tent for the purpose of extra insurance against rain that means a little bit of extra weight I know that I don’t care. I always bring an extra tarp 10 x 8 for the purpose of making a shelter in case of reign of any other precipitation or the punishment from the sun, it’s great, it’s extra weight but I don’t care. Even with that extra weed in my backpack, my base load is always around 11 pounds or 12 sometimes and I don’t even have any titanium gear nor any dynamic gear in my back packing equipment. I’ve been criticized, I’ve been complemented , I have been advised in a in any different ways but always this people benefit from my tarp shelter when necessary. I like your channel. Great video. Keep bringing some more. God bless you.

I also use this bucket to wash dishes or wash my hands while cooking and also to take a bath under the vestibule of my tent when I had it. I don’t use it anymore. Be blessed.

I knew you were gonna mention that chair! Hey, even though I'm not a "chair person," I'm glad you don't give a sh to say "hey, I like it, so I bring it." I'm sure most of us carry some kind of extra weight because...well, why do we need to give anyone a reason/excuse?! I guess I could say my luxury items would be my phone with it's cord and portable charger. As well as my camera and the mini tripod I bring. I don't think I bring many other "extras," but of course I might have essential items I could make lighter. But I like what I've got! (mostly)

Nice to see some people remember though! haha.
