It sucks when they do digital only games because this leads to lost media when they decide to take them off from the market places. Like I have the X-Men arcade game on my Xbox 360 but can't access it on my Xbox One.

Think about early mobile games for iOS or Android. Games like the original Backbreaker or Flappy Bird or the original Angry Birds just vanish from the App Store and there’s no easy way to preserve these types of games.

"That damn camera angle." I bought this game when it came out because I am a lifer 2k football fan that was looking for Madded alternative. The only thing that kept me from not playing this game only to this day is the camera angle. Think about that? This game is incredible and I wish it was traditional style with that option.

THIS GAME WAS MY CHILDHOOD! I had asked for Backbreaker 1 for my birthday one year we couldnt find it and I got this I was disappointed at first but the more i played this game the more i fell in love! It’s still on my 360 to this day!

It gives me goosebumps everytime some get the soul tackled out of them.

Love the content on these older games.

Still better than madden physics wise til this day. Definitely should’ve been a remaster or 2nd installment

I suspect there was some underhandedness involved with the fail of Backbreaker by EA not wanting any competition and they possibly paid game reviewers to crap all over this game and say it was a bad poorly made game. I may be wrong but probably not.

There was, I visited Natural Motion in Oxford back then to beta test the mobile version. One of the Devs basically said that EA did not want competition and put every obstacle possible using their connects in the industry to bury the game.

I just checked my 360 E that I got last Christmas’s marketplace, and I can still get “Vengeance” there for $15. I live in the US.

Can you actually install and play the game though? I’ve heard you can’t but I did see the game on the website for the Xbox Marketplace. There’s just a chance you’d waste $15 if it doesn’t work, and I’ve asked around and been told it doesn’t. But they could be wrong

I remember playing vengeance after trying to find the original backbreaker game. Played it at a friend's house once and tried to revisit it a few years later and boom, vengeance. It was pretty fun I miss it

Your channel is the best. I play old sports games on ps1 through ps4. So many gems! Picked up Backbreaker about a year ago. It is a lot of fun and wish I would have known about this way back when. Now not only do I lament not downloading NHL 3 on 3 arcade for PS3, but now this one too! Softmodding my PS3 is a no go though!

I'm not sure why a re-skinned version of this game (with official NFL licensing) hasn't been released by 2K, yet. Would be a pretty cool release, IMO (plus it would allow them to gauge interest in an 'arcade' release).

All Pro 2k9 would've been crazy with that euphoria engine attached to 2k football models.

I remember back breaker on the old ipod and i had it on the 360 this game was fun asf

All they gotta do is make both backbreakers backwards compatible, we need at least one more sequel with more customization, more in depth season mode, new animations, custom player builds and more game options like different camera angles for the new casuals💯 sequel should be called backbreaker resurgence🔥🔥

I've been playing Backbreaker faithfully recently after figuring out the learning curve and i recently complete all 100 levels of tackle alley in less than hour

Oh I played this on 360 and got all the achievements. Love it.

This use to be my favourite game when it came out. Me and my kids had a blast with the multi player. Highly under rated game. And if it was available on ps store I'd purchase it again.

I live in Europe and I can confirm it is purchasable here, I've bought it today on my Xbox 360 and I am glad to have done that as the marketplace goes down in July. However a bigger problem for me is hunting down an European copy of the original Backbreaker for X360, in my country whenever one goes up they're relatively cheap but I don't see any offers right now. I will try buying it some day.

Imagine how great the world would be if we had a free energy source. The powers that be will never let that happen. Same thing happened to football video gaming.

I played Backbreaker at launch, because it was one of the most hyped video games of my whole life, and I can attest that the negative reviews were not a simple matter of reviewers being bad at sports games without the handicap of the overhead "Madden camera". The launch version of Backbreaker (which is the version most reviewers played), was pretty horrible. Runners would often ragdoll if they simply grazed a defensive player, linemen couldn't block more than a second, QBs were horribly inaccurate, receivers couldn't catch, DBs intercepted almost every pass that was contested, the kicking game didn't feel intuitive, the opponent A.I. was horrible and made stupid decisions, and the difficulty levels were way out of whack. On the easy and normal difficulties, the A.I. put up no resistance to the player whatsoever, and I would win all the games by 30 or 40 points. On the hardest difficulty, however, all the problems above would kick in, making it nearly impossible to move the ball. But the CPU offenses was still so inept that if you scored at all, you'd probably still win. Want a 0-0 tie? Play an unpatched match of Backbreaker on the hardest difficulty level. After months of patches, the gameplay did get a lot better, but it was never great. As for the camera angle, I would agree with contemporary reviewers that it was problematic. In real life, players can quickly turn their head to look at different players or reads on the field, and people have peripheral vision, directional hearing, and other senses that give us greater awareness of what's going on around us. This is why a real-life QB can "sense pressure" and run away from a defensive end who beat his block, even if the QB isn't actually looking at the defender, because people in real life have a good sense for what's going on around them. The camera in Backbreaker offered a very limited field of vision, and there were no on-screen indicators to give users a feel for if a tackler is running right at you from off-screen. First person shooters usually have those little red bloodstains on the edges of the screen to indicate what direction enemy shots are coming from, which is an abstract simulation of peripheral vision, directional hearing, and so forth. Something like that would have gone a long way towards making Backbreaker more playable. Or even having the controller vibrate on one side or the other to indicate the direction of the pass rush would have been a useful (and immersive) feature. But the complete lack of peripheral awareness made passing from the pocket way harder than it needed to be. On the hardest difficulty, you likely wouldn't even have time to to get to the second read before you're sacked. About the only thing that Backbreaker had going for it was the physics, which were really good. In fact, it might *still* have the best physics of any football game then or since. But the actual *football game* that was built around those physics was not very good. I will say that despite how bad the original release was, it is a horrible shame that it never got a full sequel. The foundation was great, and an extra year or 2 of development to implement better football would have made a huge difference, and might actually have produced a genuinely good game.

This! I remember playing the game when it came out and I had the same exact issues as you and the reviewers did. The patches did help but it just made it slightly better to pass, but not by much.

There's quarterback attack but it's one of those games made of live-action clips so it's very limited. Also espn nfl and 2k5 first person mode

I preferred the camera angle, it meant you had to be better, and was way more immersive. I wish there was a similar camera angle in Madden

That's why Emulation is so important. There are so many games that are gonna die when all the Digital store for the 7th gen consoles finally fade away. Emulation keeps all these amazing games alive.

Did ratings matter much in this game, or the original back breaker? Like if you had a big bruiser running back with high weight and trucking ability, did it actually make him harder to bring down? Or tall receivers with amazing hands, did they drop less balls?

Damn the intro to start the video was incredible. Not gonna lie, I played backbreaker as a little kid and while the gameplay was amazing, as a little kid I just didn't see anything that special in backbreaker to be honest but know looking back at it, the game was definitely good
