I know ac compressors from GM and if it has that much resistance when it is not on the vehicle, then yes it is bad. They normally almost run themselves when they are correct. LOL

It's not that it's grinding or anything; the mass of the rotors being turned by the belt is the main concern. Might be a 3-5 HP gain at best but not much. That is an old compressor though, it's probably a bit wore out too.

@@FieroAustin I don't use the upper dog bone on my 3800 turbo. I have 2 lower torque struts (dog bones) that tie the engine to the sub frame. Everything was poly and cabin noise was not great! (I'll be posting a video soon on all my sub frame mods.) 😉

@@turboslugfiero What's your idle RPM? When in gear, at 800-900RPM with poly all around and no balance shaft mine's horribly shaky. You could put a quarter on the dash and watch it move around. A cheap way of doing it would to just bump up idle to 1000RPM or so. I did start it up and it seemed better but it wasn't in gear yet. Hopefully that clears it up!

Hey don't put those trans am vents on your hood. I had them on my car and all they do is go melty until you put some insulation under them to keep them from doing it and then you don't get the airflow you are looking for. One of those webber hood scoops would be way better. You are better off venting the bottoms of the headlight buckets if you want to reduce lift. Or take the spare tire well out completely. I did that once too.

How bad were those poly mounts? I had the "factory" rubber ones for a season and they seemed to tear. I just ordered poly. I'm doing the exact opposite of you with mounts. I don't want a lot of vibration though so this makes me rethink it.

  • @FieroAustin

They held up great, its just shaky as heck. In no way is going back to rubber an upgrade, but hopefully it'll make a better ride with my balance shaft being removed. If you haven't removed your balance shaft, I wouldn't worry about it at all. Definitely get an adjustable dogbone if anything. Stay tuned and I'll let you know how it feels.

@@jimnye2561 Not gonna lie, the $10 fiero store rubber is probably garbage... nobody seems to make good OEM rubber anymore. I don't drive my car a whole lot so maybe it'll last for me.

I'd suggest using the Rodney Dickman brackets (or you make your own?) with TH400 gearbox rubber mounts. Rodney used the poly TH400 in his kit, but you can go back to rubber. That solves it for the gearbox side. Engine side is more difficult.... I'm modifying the cradle to accept a 3800 motor mount.

I bought a set of Silverado (just like th400 mounts) to do just that, but they don't seem to have safety catches. I saw a KZread video where they completely failed as well (broke into two.separate pieces). Are you aware of any stronger ones that may be rubber with safety catches?
