For someone who was born in 1950, the 1955 scenes, and the way people back then would have responded to a 1985 time traveler is perfect. There are so many nuanced bits that probably pass by most people today. If I was teaching a class in recent American history, I'd show this movie and then spend most of the semester discussing the many facets.

Zemekis was born in early '52.

The teacher who told Marty that he was "too darn loud" was played by Huey Lewis, the musician who wrote the song Marty was playing.

The ending was meant to be a joke, and reflect the trope, "And the Adventure Continues". Making a sequel didn't occur to the Bobs when they made this, and the ending caused them considerable trouble when it came time for the sequel.

That's why the gf is barely in it and they gloss over Doc saying something has to be done about your kids (plural).

The war movie he did is called Casualties of War. Michael J. Fox was everywhere in the 80s and 90s especially. He even did voice work in animation.

Michael J. Fox also starred in the films "Doc Hollywood" and "For Love or Money," both romantic comedies.

on the part about Loraine saying "Marty, what a nice name" or even when Marty says about Goldie becoming mayor, I believe they would've come with the ideas on their own. Marty is just reinforcing the Ideas onto them.

Fox was in Teen Wolf, The Secret of My Success, Casualties of War (the war film you mentioned at the end), The Freighteners, The Hard Way, Doc Hollywood, and briefly in Mars Attacks and The American President. But obviously most well known for BTTF and the tv shows Family Ties and Spin City.

Christopher Lloyd with one of my favorite actors in this movie and this actually came on the heels of him doing the TV series Taxi. 😂😅 Great Scott!❤ " Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads!" 😊 Yes you are correct, Michael J fox was in a war movie called Casualties of War with Sean Penn. Is dealt with a very traumatic subject, a group of soldiers kidnapped and raped a Vietnamese woman during the war then killed her😢

Marty goofs up a bit there. Pepsi Free was caffeine-free, but not sugar-free.

Fun history bit. While JFK might not have been the household name yet, he was well known in the 50's. His father was a major political player and JFK was already a WWII war hero from his time commanding PT109. Few would not know the Kenedy name by this point.

Great re-reaction! This is, unequivocally, my #1 all-time movie! I could watch this any time and I'll instantly feel better - the perfect movie! Humour, drama, action, acting, dialogue, plot, and especially the soundtrack (I love music!) - it's all here! First saw it when it came out (on VHS) for my birthday, I was 7, and have loved it ever since. It was a hit with my parents too as they were teens in the 50's, so the nostalgia with them was huge! Even though it wasn't a first time watch - it's a great one to re-watch, plus it sets you up brilliantly for part 2! Cheers!

The guy who came up with this got the idea from looking at his dad's high school year book from the 1950s and began wondering what it would be like if he knew his parents as teenagers. Would they be friends? Would they be the kind of people he would hang out with if he was their age?

What is so weird is how much things can change in just 30 years. For example, I was born in 1987 and now Im 37 years old. So I was born just 32 years after the year 1955, and when I compare that to how kids to view time 32 years ago back in 1992, there is a huge difference. But although I remember life before cell phones was the normal thing for teens other than adults who owned a buisness which became more popular in the early 2000s for teens to carry around more often here in the U.S., and what life was like before social media. And how social media and youtube has played a factor in the downfall in society especially the younger generation who have far too much access to things they shouldn't. I count my blessings to being an 1980s baby. Plus people back then didn't have brittle ears and could take jokes easily and belly laugh to comics in the 1980s and 1990s and not apologize for laughing. People now days especially younger people are so easily offended with a broom stick up their tush. It gets on my last nerves to be honest. If I could go back in time, Id definitely want to go back in time to either the 1950's, 80s or 90s. The 90s was the last best decade in mine and many others opinion who lived through it and experienced it fully. I'd rather be there without social media than in todays world. Not all social media is bad, but it os often used for the wrong reasons which is sad. I hope the youth can reacapture a bit of the honor, virtue and morality and principles that even my friends and I who are older grew up on. But it just goes to show you how big of a difference 30 plus years makes. I'm not proud of todays society. Im often ashamed of it and its division and how easily people are offended and cannot handle critism or correction when its called for and failing to pay the consequence and somebody bailing them out. I know not everyone is like that. But they are few amongst a larger multitude. Thats why I enjoy visiting nursing homes and singing to them and giving encouraging, inspiration or faithful sermons cause they seem to truly love it and want the company and inspiration al messages. I sit down with many of them one on one who wish to tell me about themselves and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They also tell me about what it was like growing up in the 30's or 40's or 50's. And I admire their strength and sence of honor. They have a greater sense of honor, principles and virtue that they held onto that I wish today's youth had even a small part. I have the greatest respect for our elderly in nursing homes. I have the same mindset as them in several ways. You can call me old-fashioned but I wish things hadn't changed so much that such things as virtue and honor are very rare these days. Back when men looked like men and acted like gentleman, and women who even were extremly attractive dressed modestly and had class and grace. If anything, I hope by watching this movie and older classic films, the younger generation will learn a thing or too and apply it to their own lives. That is my hope. None of us are perfect, but we should always strive to always put our best foot forward and continue to grow and progress but in the right and most healthy manner of course. I can easily live without youtube, facebook, tictok, and other forms of social media, including cell phones and not lose my freaking mind over it. But I swear that people would be losing their minds and couldn't stand it if they had to live without it for a month or for a year. They are unhealthily addicted to it. And it worries for what this next generation will be like when they get older and are in nursing homes. I honestly doubt they will have even half the same kind of strength, honor, and principles and admire virture that is not just given away to every Tom, Dick and Harry. They want have the same class and hard life that those in the 1930s had to live through. I doubt they could ever measure up to the hundreds of elderly men and women I have met and spoken to over the years. Oh I'm sure some may have lived a hard life and learned a thing or two. Maybe even adopted some great principles and found some atonement and honor throughout the years. But my money is on the elderly in the nursing homes now that were born in the 1930s and '40s and '50s. They are the LAST of the greatest elderly in my opinion. I want to cringe at what some of these youth will be like in their elder ages. Hopefully they acquire some wisdom and don't like like a bunch of hoodlums. And teach their kids and grandkids discipline and honor and virtue and other things that they should have been done taught. I have the greatest respect for those that I have spoken with one in the 1930s through 1950s. So I really love this movie and love watching movies based in the '50s.

Michael was the voice of Chance, the younger dog, in both of those films.

Saw this when it premiered in the theater, one of my favorites. Another one of my favorites, you should react to is The Final Countdown (1980) The U.S.S. Nimitz goes back to December 6th, 1941. It's filmed on the Nimitz. It's like Top Gun meets Back to the Future.

One of my favorite movies 💜💜

The masterpiece was so carefully crafted most people don't know about some of the details, eg the shopping mall starts off as twin pines mall showing on its sign, later, Marty knocks over one of the land owners twin pine trees when he arrives in 1955 then when he arrives back in 1985, the mall is now Lone Pine mall.

One thing they got right is it is hard to find all cotton clothing now. Like Doc, I'm sensitive to synthetics.

In the opening sequence, we see all these clocks in Doc's workshop. One has a small man hanging off the minute hand. This (actual) clock was inspired by the 1921 Harold Lloyd silent movie, Safety Last. (Copyright free and can be seen on KZread.) These silent movies typically had the stunts performed by the actual actors, at great risk to life and limb. In Safety Last, Lloyd's character winds up climbing on the multistoried front of a downtown building, eventually winding up hanging for dear life on the hands of the clock, way above the street. This is one of the most iconic stunts in movie, even though now so few people have seen the movie. The reason I bring this up is that in the end, Doc winds up similarly hanging on the hands of the tower clock in trying to get the wire back up.

There’s back to the future part 2 and 3

20:15 I recall a KZread video of an interview with writer/producer Bob Gale saying they had trouble finding a studio willing to make this film because one, studios were looking into cashing in on teen raunch comedies and, two, when they shopped the script to Disney, they said this has incest in it. I think they were turned down 40 times, but I can’t recall if that was the right number, and were saved by Steven Spielberg who convinced one of the studio executives to green light it.

Drink jokes in the 50's: Pepsi Free of course was decades away. Tab, the first diet cola, did not exist until 1963.

The mid fifties had many innovations. Marty’s guitar playing was done by Eddie Van Halen who was born in 1955. Johnny B.Goode was recorded in 1957. The RCA plugs that Doc uses to connect the VCR to the tv were invent then and the modern skateboard was invented in California in the mid fifties. Also, does anyone notice how town changed from 1955 to 1985? It goes from a wholesome small town to adult stores, pawn shops and adult cinemas.

Yes because it represents the flight to the suburbs that happened during this time, leaving downtowns semi-abandoned, with many stores being rented by marginal businesses. In the '50's or earlier, storefronts were reserved for businesses that most needed exposure, like department stores. There were many multistoried commercial buildings where lawyers, doctors, dentists, dance studies would be housed up stairs. By the '80's, these businesses moved into vacant storefront areas. This shift in American culture was also part of the back story of Roger Rabbit. Robert Zemeckis directed both movies.

Marvin Berry and the Starlighters were a Rock n' Roll band from the 59s & 60s. One of their hit songs was Earth Angel. Marvin's cousin was Chuck Berry who had a smash hit, Johnny B. Good, in the late 50s. This was all part of my youth. It's one of the reasons I love this movie.

If you decide to react to any of the movies about the Vietnam War I think it will put you head and shoulders above the competition to have some idea what that war was all about. Most people, including 99% of Americans don't have the foggiest notion how the US got into the war. There is a free KZread channel, VloggingThroughHistory, that has just put up Part 1 of THE VIETNAM WAR. The program is in a very entertaining format, namely cartoon form. If you've ever seen OVERSIMPLIFIED, the Vietnam segment is almost identical. Every person I've seen reacting to any of the Vietnam War movies, of which there are dozens, always respond to the violence. They may as well be reacting to WW2 or The 30 Years War. By having some background knowledge, you can add things to your reaction that no one else can. Please think about it. BTW, take a few minutes to check out OVERSIMPLIFIED, entertaining, concise, and information, on all sorts of topics, from Henry 8th to the US Civil War, WW2, The War of the Bucket (not kidding, there was such a war), and many more topics. Hope this information is helpful.

Marvin berry was just a made up character for this movie. The penguins was the name of the band who orignally sang "Earth Angel"

I was wondering when you'd get to the BACK TO THE FUTURE trilogy. Can't wait to see your reaction to young Lorraine's infatuation with her son. I believe this trilogy is one of the best if not the best Hollywood has ever produced. I continue to enjoy your channel.

Another Michael J Fox film was Teen Wolf, a comedy. If you've seen Star Wars and any other sci-fi movie I recommend Spaceballs.

Best trilogy

Yes, Michael J Fox was a huge star in the 80s and 90s unfortunately, his Parkinson's disease sidetracked his career. He was in a war film called Casualties of War. Some other feel good comedies he was in were- Secret of My Success and Teen Wolf. Being a kid of the 80s I loved these films as there were just fun feel good humor, so I would encourage you to check them out. Looking forward to more.

Hello, check out a movie called, 1492: Conquest of Paradise. Adventure/Drama (1992). It stars Gérard Depardieu, Siqourney Weaver, Armante Assante. It portrays a version of the travels to the New World by the Italian explorer Christopher Columbus and the effect this had on indigenous peoples. Directed by Ridley Scott.

If you get the chance to see the stage-musical adaptation of this film, I highly recommend it. It first opened in Manchester in February 2020 and has won acclaim and awards.

Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale (the writers of this film, whilst Zemeckis also directed it) are once again involved, while Alan Silvestri not only allowed the use of music he composed for the original film, but also came back on board to help write some new songs that are unique to the stage adaptation, _Back to the Future: The Musical._ As well as those aforementioned new songs the production also gained permission to include these songs that feature in the original film’s soundtrack: _The Power of Love, Back in Time, Earth Angel_ and _Johnny B. Goode._ I caught the stage-musical adaptation for the first time at the Adelphi Theatre in London just under two years ago and, at the time of writing (23/5/24) it is still showing there.

1. Cranky principal Strickland/James Tolkan also played the ship's squadron leader in "Top Gun". 2. The teacher that tells Marty, "Hold it fellas, I'm afraid you're just too darn loud" is Huey Lewis himself. "Heart of rock and roll" etc. 3. Eric Stoltz was first cast as Marty, but he didn't play well with others and wasn't giving the tone they were looking for. fired. Some of his long shots are still in the movie. 4. The flammable material set on fire with the model exercise had to have been put there on purpose. Movie magic. 5. It's always fun to see how people react to the Marty and his mom car scene. 6. George McFly/Crispin Glover didn't like that the story ended with the family being prosperous. DA 7. Twin Pines Mall becomes Lone Pine Mall when Marty takes one out when he goes back to 1955. 8. IMVHO part II is my favorite of the trifecta. 9. If you want a first time/share of an OUTSTANDING movie where Christopher Lloyd plays the heavy you must do "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".

You are so perceptive. I've watched this movie half a dozen times and believe I've seen at least 10 different reactions to this movie and no one, I MEAN NO ONE (including me) came to the conclusion that a lot of kids must have been up that tree for Marty's grandfather to say, "Another one of those kids jumped in front of my car!" Marley, you are the only one to catch that. Since the tree is right in front of Lorraine's window then she's as creepy as George. I'll bet you are the only person that has ever noticed this. Everyone says George is creep for being a peeping Tom but Lorraine is just as creepy for being an exhibitionist.

Exactly! Lorraine is putting on a show! Very few people seem to realise this, but it's definitely implied. That's why George knows to rush off on his bike, to get there in time.

yes, indeed the parents and the kids futures were better. reason was if you noticed george was oringally awimp, mom was a drinker. when marty went back, he made george wind up meeting her by standing up and becming super confidennt and going fo rstuff. and also standing up to the bully. the couple dancing nemxt to them "hey heard you lay out biff, ever think about running for class president?" and also Lorraine was told not to drink or somke, she was helathier. so it all changed stuff. IE his first novel. also the mall was lone pine mall after marty ran over onf ot he 2 pines hwne running from Peaboy shooting at him

Something lots of people missed is just a little thing but also something why most film people call this as close to perfect of a film as you will find. When Marty meets Doc at the mall it is "Twin Pines Mall". Then Marty goes back in time he is on the farm and when he is escaping from the farmer shooting at him, he runs over one of the pines and the farmer yells, "My pine!". When Marty comes back from the past and hurries to the mall to alert Doc, he is standing at the mall sign that reads "Lone Pine Mall". It's little things like that Spielberg did that make the movie so perfect in the eyes of filmmakers recognized and most fans miss.

Plus Delorean tried smuggling cocaine to bail out the car company. You can still buy the cars. The unassembled cars were sold when the company went bankrupt and are still in storage.
