Please put gutters on cabin and catch rain water off of your roof. Build a pump house with water catchment inside to store water. It will provide year round water to draw from even in the winter, throw a livestock water heater in the tote if u had to. I did that with my cabin. Its Like having a well. Pump house is the way to go.
Dave and Brook are knee deep in projects too, and are now working on restoring the abandoned cabin on the property they bought. Who knows though, Dave's brother is helping them so maybe he will make time to help, they are great people...

Lots of things happening in spring. Would love to see you build a couple cold frame boxes for your early growing. The extra windows you found would be perfect for the lids.

Yes! Thank you!
They are really a type of harmless springtail that eats decaying leaves and fungus. They have a series of proteins that allow them to survive in cold and freezing temperatures. These proteins are being studied to see if they might prolong the length of time harvested organs can last before being transplanted.

I saw the interview with Brook and Dave, one of my favorites with you two.
I'll be doing the same at our camp first week of April. I use washing machine hoses too, makes it easy to dis/reconnect.

It’s March 11th and we still have 3+ feet of snow here at the cabin and it’s supposed to snow later today and for the next few days. I am ready for spring and no snow but still have a month or more before that happens. Enjoy your day.

WOOT WOOT.......spring has sprung .......rain water and maple sap......I bet having water now, frees up your time from doing winter water chores, so now you can do more fun stuff.....cheers and be well
Good see ya all back. You could try putting heat tape on water supply above ground. This would keep it from freezing. For a few days if necessary. Its worth a try anyway. My parents used heat hope on roof and gutter system. When snow started laying they turn it on. Worked good
Good to see you back at the cabin.

Never even heard of snow fleas. Wonder if those were what Ryan from Surviving Ringworm found on his last video. He found a bunch of bugs right after it warmed up or something. He's somewhere in Michigan as well.

Wow...ya they blanket the snow top in winter. I guess they are a critical part to decomposing material in the soil.

@@OffgridwithJayandJenI'm in Minnesota. Can't say I've ever seen them here. But, I guess I haven't looked for them either. We got almost no snow this year though.
With all of the blue hues in the thumbnail it finally looks like you got your off grid cabin in Santorini. Enjoyed the video as always.

I let my tote lid say slightly loose in order to let air in as the water is used... otherwise a suction occurs that causes a flow problem. I also use a 4 gallon under sink pressure tank on the 12V system. It takes a bit to refill or fill from empty but what is nice is that I can use some small mounts of tap water for sometime before the pump runs. Without the tank, the pump will run every time I open the tap. As the wife or husband are sleeping the other may run a little water without waking up the sleeper.

I like those improvements.....my pump seems to surge sometimes....Maybe if I loosen the lid that will help. Thanks a ton David

Yikes
Do you put a trap on the rain water before it goes into the tank? Some bigger diameter traps have a cap at the bottom that you might open and let the sediment drain out. This might help the quality that gets into the tank have less sediment.

Shows in the final seconds of the video Jay stretching a nylon-type sock over the inlet to the tank and then positioning the gutter downspout right into it.

I don't do anything fancy to filter the rainwater at first. Only while transferring it. I do use cheap filter socks to catch the big stuff
You may have potential for a standpoint well at the bottom of the hill on your property.
Couple things do you have your drive belt off ?? Also never tow your machine that way ,you will snap your steering components. Look up proper way to tow a snowmobile
