That's me. Used to happen once a year or so, now more frequently. I can do anything but I can lean or bend forward to put socks on or pick up anything and get a jolt that turns to spasm. Dr. Stuart McGill talks about bending with a neutral spine and using hips in his book.

Thanks for the comment Frank. Hope things are improving! If not, do check out the video on our channel homepage - the masterclass - and Dr McGill is great and much of our material aligns with his messaging :)

@@BackInShapeProgram Thanks, next week I have an appointment with the one person in my state who is certified by Dr. McGill, fortunately he is only 15 minutes away. He is going to give me the 4 hour McGill examination. He is not just a Certified Practitioner which is the lower cert but a McGill Method Master Clinician. There are very few in the world.

@@BackInShapeProgram I had my 4 hour McGill evaluation. It was good, showed me the bracing, finding the sweet spot, etc, just like the book. But as the day went on pain returned, harder and harder to find the sweet spot. I know McGill does not like surgery, but I wonder if I should have a consult with a spine surgeon, maybe just get that L4-5 disc taken out, then do the McGill stuff. I think my skiing days are over since you have to twist and tilt the torso, that really aggravates my back.

@@frankm2588 The best thing to do is work on making some progress building strength, with all the will in the world, finding that sweet spot with bracing helps reduce vulnerabilty but at the end of the day you cannot eliminate the load of gravity and if you're disc is vulnerable it will start to fatigue-fail through the day. So that's where regular practices to unload correctly come in. on the day-to-day and you MSUT follow this up with strengthening work - takes time to build but it works and will steadily improve the fatigue failure during the day :)
