This is why I love all you subscribers. Even though I’m not always at the railroad or can’t show dad how much ETR means to me, you all mean more to me. The ETR, well being a great dream for dad and a great leaning opportunity for me, the property isn’t the thing that I love. It’s you (the people). It’s the same as a church! The church building is just brick and mortar. It can burn, it can get damaged by the wind and can get damaged by people on the outside. (In our case the government) But the strong family that holds together can weather any storm and can break down walls. So. As I am not at the yard as much is I’d love to be I do know this. My dad is not alone. He has you the family of ETR nation. A strong, encouraging , blessing of a Community supporting him and holding us together. I may be in the background and Brian my be the face of ETR but you, subscribers are the platform the we stand on! None of this would be possible without you all. Thank you for supporting and encouraging my dad! Some of the things that have been put in the comments are some of the kindest and most genuine things I’ve ever herd anyone say to anyone! Thank you all for the love that has been shown to my dad and supporting the East Terminal Railway. -graham in northern Ohio

@@eastterminalrailway5975 When I was 23, my father, a newly retired high level federal government manager, came up with a business idea that seemed like endless hard labor to me. I wish he had not taken one "No" for an answer; that he persisted and sold me a dream. In the next 20 years, the area grew by 10 times, with small start-up companies becoming regional operators with 100s of employees. My dad's idea? Lawn Maintenance in South Florida in 1986. The one thing I wish I knew was this; Always pay yourself first in everything you do and don't quit and walk away from potential without a good fight.

*"reciprocity"* is what transit and transportation is all about. Creating and manufacturing a working Railroad is easy...if you're the Millbrook Railroad! The purpose is to entertain primarily but of course move beyond *"trains as toys"* at the same time. Once you're up there playing with the literal Big Boys...well, let's start with the now famous Ford F150 Lightning Commercial that was used to pull an entire Carriage Line. Is Bill Ford serious about that? Maybe write him a letter asking as such. Railroads are always throwing off used equipment...maybe it's useless maybe not. What's out there that can be had as delivered for one US Dollar? The US Federal Government is going to spend upwards of $70 *BILLION* US Dollars on Amtrak. Maybe there's grant money in there somewhere? Point being this rail line is where it is for a reason...and like a Farmer working his Field which has had great success in the past...where the property seemed able to *RECIPROCATE* his effort so too *"is what we're looking at here a Revenue Line?"* Only you can explain why that Rail Line is even there in the first place. Somebody thought it would pay off. Name one person right now who has been speculating wildly in Real Estate and making Bank on that is now wondering...not where did all that money go...but where was the Payback for all the investment.... *ANYWHERE AT ALL.* I think most realtors will tell you the payback was in getting that customer what it was they wanted...that your selling and that other did buy an actual *not a dream* and that *not a dream* (hence the term *REAL* Estate) that relationship was the pay off. In retail it's called *NOT A SURVEY* like KZread is so fond of by *FULFILLMENT* or some time of positive vibe others get by seeing your Work and then of course we hope ... *YOU* which one imagines why one gets underway in these matters. *MY RAILROAD.* Not many People in all of History can say that one!

Brian, I’m 62 yrs old and I’ve had a lot of dreams over years and one of my biggest regret’s is that I never really tried to make most of those dreams come true. I’ve worked in electronics for over 40 yrs. My back ground covers several areas from industrial controls, high power radio stations, wireless phone to biomedical electronics. I always dreamed about being an electronics engineer but I never felt I could pass the classes, so I never tried. I work with a lot of “kid’s” I’ll say and I tell them all don’t just dream take a chance while they are still young. If things don’t work out, they are still young enough to recover. I admire you a lot for going after your dream!!! You’ve done something I’ve never did , at least you tried!,!! Ron

Damnit Brain, don't you give up! I understand your positiion. As a teen, I helped my father recapture his dream and love of horse racing. But my dream was construction. When my father got to the age he just could do it anymore, he supported my dream. He would ask where I was working and come out sit in his truck and watch us work for hours. I did start my own business with only $50 and in five years, we were doing projects up to $5 million. I accomplished that goal and it wasn't easy, especially getting a business loan. But I found a way around that. I sold in early 2008 and I am forever greatful that I profitted enough to to pay each of my 18 employees $125,000 because I could have never made it that far without each one of them! I know my father would be proud! Today I deal with an agency who has authority over the ETR and I fully understand the regulation barriers! Through that I do know right where you (the ETR is) and you have to be thankful for the Corporate office being super close as well. Likewise, I'm in a few fields and I came across this amazing person from Kenya. I made them a promise to get them to America and work for me., teach them all I know that hopefully they can chase their dream. I'm not getting into policitics here, but the current Administation has a lot of barriers in place to go the legal route. This weekend I felt the same as you and they person like Mrs. ETR had to give me a pep talk! Currently I als trying to do a recycling business of green waste as well as crush asphalt and concrete and screen it. But dealing with Ohio's EPA, the County Commissioners, insurance , etc. to get a license is a bit of a nightmare as well! But I am a loyal sub and follower as in another state there is about 10-15 miles of abandoned rail down along a pretty nice river. My dream would be to revitalize it and try to get some old cabooses and update them and get a switcher to give rides and have about 5-10 spurs just long enough to put the caboose off by the river and allow peopler to camp, fish, enought the great outdoor while preserving a piece of old coal mining history. So talk about an ambitous dream and goal! Yet I have learned so much from your channel and from that I have been working on the two short spurs off a CSX mainline that if I get the county and state to appove my recycling project, I can ship lumber , wood pellets and other goods. The ETR has been a wonderful classroom as well as bringing together a group of railroading fans along with those who just love seeing you chase your dream! I'm reminded by the story of... 3 feet from gold. Have you read it? A couple of guys came across a property and mine, they labored with blood sweat and tears to hopefully get rich. But it ended up that they gave up and sold their equipment to a junk dealer, who just happened to be a geologist. So he went to the mine and studied it and discovered evidence of a possible vain. He began digging and in just 3 feet from where the others left off he hit the mother lode! So don't give up Brain! We all love ya and praying for you and take it from Mrs. ETR, she wouldn't have said you are just complaining if she didn't believe in you! FInger crossed for you and that the right business will come along to make the ETR a success! We all have struggles at times. But if Rick Corman can do it starting with only an old Case 580 backhoe, Brain I have faith in you. You got this! (Working Hard to be Lucky: the R. J. Corman Story - kzread.info/dash/bejne/iY6c1tenZa-7msY.html)

Brian, all it takes is one man with a vision and the determination to succeed. NO ONE believed in a man named Edwin Howard Armstrong. He was a radio guy who developed the modern radio receiver. He reduced noise in the AM band and wanted to take it much further. RCA turned their back on him and hosed him on patents. Folks laughed at him in engineering circles about noiseless radio, it couldn't be done, no one needs it, AM is KING. Next time you tune into your favorite country music station on the FM dial, know your LISTENING to the vision of a single man. Keep up the good fight. 73s. Steve

Brian & Graham, never hang your head. Even if the obstacles can be so big. Insurance and railway laws are certainly a tough task to drill through. But I'm sure you'll get it if you just stubbornly stick to the topic and get closer to your goal bit by bit. these topics with unloading of freight wagons are an opportunity to secure the financial situation for the ETR in the future. That would be something to work towards. We in Germany also have our difficulties with the subject of insurance and above all the railway law. The hurdles are much stricter here than elsewhere. But it makes sense, since it's also about security. I see an advantage in you. you don't have to pay anything for the connection to the main railway. Or am I wrong? In the case of our museum railway in Germany, the goal of connecting to the main line is set far back for the time being, since we would have to bear the costs of maintaining the connecting switch. Annually without us using it. just so that the switch is there. I prefer not to mention the topic of costs for using the main railway and stations on their, if we want to go there. Therefore, our focus is first to renovate the existing 6km museum railway and to consolidate it financially. Perhaps in the distant future, when everything is going well and more money can be earned, we will take up the topic of connection points again. Oh not to forget, we are also only a group of volunteers with families and jobs. But as the saying goes: constant dripping wears away the stone. So, I admire how far you've come and keep my fingers crossed that you'll succeed. You will continue to be able to read me as a subscriber here in the future. Best regards from Germany Matthias

Hi Brian, greetings from Czech Republic. I rarely comment on youtube but as I listened to you I feel like I have to say something too. I wouldn't say "please keep doing it" or "save your (not only mental) health and give up". For me you're one of the youtube guys who are living one of my dreams. I enjoy our honesty and the way you just "document" things, you're not trying to make show of it. I really do enjoy watching your videos and and follow your story. If you'd ask I'd be pleased to help with few bucks I'll not miss in the family budget here and there. I can't imagine what else can a programmer and electrical engineer having weakness for railroad do for a guy struggling with his railroad on a different continent. Maybe some warm words, but even that's hard for me as English is not my native language. The post could end here but as I want through the discussion a few ideas popped in my eyes. I know.. "family business", you can't trust anybody else then your family.. etc.. but.. in my surroundings I have like three projects that are like "old pa" tried to fulfill his dream and as he progressed some young guy joins get passionate for that and in the end he is like second son to him. It might not be Graham but you might find another pal (or more) to share that dream with you.. just keep your eyes open. I know it's not easy to get the mutual trust.. but it might happen. ;) As for the Eyore.. you reminded me one of my frieds always saying me at such moments "And the donkey lost his tail again", having Eyore in mind. ;) What do you thing of this model.. Let's look on the youtube as part of the business of ETR. You provide as with videos we like to watch and we provide you with some funds for making those videos. Can you consider that support as an income of ETR?

Brian, thank you for this video. You are sharing all the ups and downs of making a dream come true, and the net result is that yes, it is not easy in the day-to-day operation of making this dream come true, but at the end of the day, if you can survive the dark times, the times of light will come and there is always hope for a better day tomorrow. This dream you have is an awesome one that is shared as you say by the thousands of your subscribers. I also share your dream. It is the same dream that many Americans have had, to turn a pile of rocks into a great building, or some equations into a satellite system, or a simple melody into a symphony, or an idea that will someday become a business that can feed a family or two. This is your dream, Brian, and I believe it will succeed. Your knowledge, skills, intelligence, creativity, and sense of humor are all there. I pray for your success, Brian. As a railroader myself, I have dreamed of building a railroad, but I don't have the right knowledge or skills to make it happen. But you are actually doing it, man! That's why we want you to succeed. Whatever I can do to help you, just let me know. My dream of becoming a satellite engineer came true, by the way, after many years of school and working on the railroad to pay for it. God bless you and your son, sir.

Brian, Words are hard to describe to help you in the citation you are in. Let me say that we all have had more than our share of rough days and this economy that is SO BAD has made things really tough. It can't last so we must endure and maybe step back for a time of reflection and evaluation. I made the decision to stop working for a radio station back in the spring that has now shut down. Bad move, maybe not. I am 70 years old and I have been watching your channel and others involved with railroading and have learned a lot and I know about the regulation and insurance troubles. Between the FCC and the Insurance people I just didn't want the job anymore. God has given me the hope and strength to go through. Keep looking up and persue every possibility that comes by, and I know about being left alone without a helper. I had dreams about one of my 3 children taking my place in radio, but that has yet to come to pass. My wife and I enjoy your videos as well as others on KZread so don't stop them! We are praying that God will show you the way to go for success in the East Terminal Railway! By the way we have found that we too can enjoy White Castle burgers from our local Aldi Super Market! My cousin used to unload steel wire off of BNSF onto trucks for Leggett and Platt. He used a Barko log loader with a L-hook with hydraulic clamp he built. He started with a crane but the log-loader gave them better control and the rough terrain chassis allowed for easy use on uneven ground around the rail siding.

Hey Brian I suggest you go review a couple of your first videos. Capture some of that excitement. Yes times change but we must change with them to survive. I think you knew that just storing cars was marginal at best. So let’s get our sales hat on and promote our diamond in the rough. We are all in this together, I can’t believe we have been friends for two years already! Your a great guy and Mrs ETR sounds like she’s got you figured out 😉 Ok, enough of that. Let’s run some trains

I was always wondering since you started this endeavor….how would you generate revenue 🤔 and would it be enough to pay your expenses and payroll. I guess I would have explored the demand for an operation like yours and why was that line abandoned? I really like what you guys have done and the improvements made to the line, you’ve come a long way. You endeavor now is to find customers to make it all work. I wish you good fortune and persevere.

The lows and the highs all in 16 minutes. I thought this was it...goodbye. My stomach dropped. We all knew what we signed up for way back yet it was still a kick. No matter what happens, sir, (and maybe what you don't realize was in your videos) the lessons you teach perseverance, compassion, patience, and enjoying the little things are amazing values. The morning coffee meeting, the safety talks.... I hope Graham succeeds, he has a great mentor (and father) in you. Stay safe, work safe, enjoy life.

You saw a need and a place to do it, It is people such as you that make our nation strong and customers will come to you. As for your son, how many people can really say they were a interictal part of putting a dilapidated abandoned rail line back in service on their resume. you were a part of his skills that place him where he needs to be. I wish you the best and you have lots to be proud of.

Great video and i feel your pain. Yes I have had dreams as well and sometime they don;t work out for various reasons. I was told by two older gentlemen who have passed away a few years back if you have a dream and you think it can work never give up. There will be obstacles in the way and maybe you may need to reband it, rethink it but never give up on your dream. They were correct! I'm not in the rail business but in the beverage business in a private country club been there for 41 years and yes I had a dream. It was voted down several times and then one day with a connection it was voted on to go forward. The dream was a success and it continues today although I'm retired now only doing security at the club. You and your son had a dream but in a different business but you never gave up. This is what makes a person successful

Brian, you are sincerely welcome for my support for what you are working at accomplishing. You have always been direct about the ups and downs of this project and that is part of why I have followed your story. Your willingness to honestly express your feelings and let us witness how you deal with those emotions and what has caused them is rare and of great value. Graham must follow the path he sees for himself. In that he reminds me of his father! Good for you for understanding that reality in spite of the disappointment it must represent to your hopes.

Thanks for sharing , I'm sure a lot of that was tough to tell your viewers . No matter what happens you guys have done an incredible job already with the repairs and purchases for this short line . I've been here for awhile and to be honest I didn't think you'd make it this far in your dream of owning a railroad . If you ever sell it though , you need a clause that you get to drive 2021 whenever. Lol. Good luck and stay positive Brian !

No, Brian. We're not the best; you are the best. And through your words and experience we learn to face life's obstacles and deal with them the best we can. We learn our feelings are also the feelings others have in similar situations - and that it's okay to have these feelings as long as we don't let them overwhelm us. Life goes on and I think you are showing us that........... Thanks.

My heart started to sink... In your line-up of thanks, thank Mrs ETR too... you were absolutely entitled to feel like Eyore after everything that happened, and the comments show that everyone's feeling for you and right behind you - but hey, you smiled a little as you told us what she'd said, and I'm sure that she was part of reigniting your own determination. You've got the vision, Brian, you can do it.
