Back on the Raptor | Ditches, Pavement, Gravel, And Trails

Ойын-сауық

I'm finally back on the quad! My AC Separation is in it's final phases of healing so I felt like it was time to see how it would handle its first ride. Thankfully I had no issues and I'm feeling much more confident now that I have my first ride behind me. I'm looking forward to getting back on track with some fresh content!

Heard you were tryna go south this winter, don’t know how far you plan on going but HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Busco Beach North Carolina. Very nice East and forgiving yet fun track if you want to push yourself, plenty plenty plenty of trails and the terrain is really fun in the right conditions. Good luck with the shoulder and as always have fun!

    Pete Hager yeah I’ve hit a couple of trees and rolled her once or twice so... I can understand why she’s a bit wobbly... someone suggested it was my tie rods or even the stem itself just being worn out and loose. It’s an 06 so first year of the 700 she’s been thru a lot. Good unit still wouldn’t trade it for anything gotta get her all fixed up and minty again.

    What speed would you cruise the road at and for how long at that speed here in the uk it’s really only road use and don’t no how a raptor would hold up at 60mph for a hour or so at a time

  • @PeteHager

    @PeteHager

    4 жыл бұрын

    MrLurcherman I was in 5th gear about half throttle most of the time. I’m assuming that’s around 55-60 mph. Raptors are so bulletproof and it seems like it would have no problem cruising at those speeds for an hour. I was on the pavement for about 20 minutes I would say. If I were to ride street regularly I would probably look into stretching the gears out a bit more and getting a street style tire for sure

    I'd be very interested in the review of the stabiliser you intend to fit. I only use my 700 on the road and quite often it feels a bit sketchy in a straight line, pulls left and right. Just interested to know if this new stabiliser help's you?

  • @PeteHager

    @PeteHager

    4 жыл бұрын

    A stabilizer will really help keep the bars straight when riding in rough terrain. If your quad is pulling left or right then you could have something loose in your front end like a ball joint or your alignment could be off. When my raptor was new it cruised at high speeds perfectly fine with no stabilizer. Maybe have a local dealer check everything out and see if anything needs to be replaced or tightened up. 👍

    I'm in Minnesota. I'm only allowed to ride on the street in my county. It's a county by county issue. My permit is more designed for farmers and their SxS's or ATV's. I was pulled over by the DNR last year and they recommended I get permit. The only physical thing I needed was a mirror. I'm also not allowed to ride in the bigger city's, the smaller, rural towns don't have any issues as long as your being respectful. I have no idea what the laws and regulations are in Florida, if you can't find any info online I would call your county services.

  • @PeteHager

    @PeteHager

    4 жыл бұрын

    You would fit on the 700 very well! Since your a new rider be sure to take your time getting used to the quad. Most new riders would start out on a 350 or 400. It's just important to respect the power and ride safe! The Raptor would be one of the most practical and reliable bigger bore sport ATV's you could buy. Your other option would be a sport utility 4x4 like a Renegade 1000 or Scrambler 1000 but those machines weigh twice as much and are automatics. Really comes down to what your needs are!

    @@PeteHager My raptor caused mine. You don't see it happen on camera but you can hear it just as I pass the camera. It's on youtube but not that entertaining to watch. Broke my left arm and had to have a plate and 13 screws put in shoulder. I had just gotten a tripod for my gopro to get some 3rd person shots and while trying a high speed drift around a corner I had done hundreds of times, it went past the point of no return drifting and flung me off. My axle is still bent, should be getting replacement next week, but I've been able to get on and pull the clutch and all, but can't really go any faster than a crawl cause of axle. Really anxious to get back on and at least put around like you did in the beginning. I will be filming it all. I got cocky and paid the price I guess.

    I'm really sorry to hear that happened.. like you said, you had done that corner a hundred times.. my accidents seem to be when i'm in my comfort zone and make a mistake. I definitely have to be careful when setting up the cameras. It's fun to push it to try and get a great shot but its easy to get overconfident and screw up. Thats what I did when I crashed during our Appleton group ride this spring. I realized this isn't about being on the edge or trying to "look fast". People want fun riding vids that they can relate to. It's easy to feel the pressure to perform at a high level but I quit putting that on myself. If i'm hurt, I cant ride and create. Being safe is a big priority for me now because I want to keep making these videos. I hope your recovery is faster than expected!! 👍 I definitely recommend the stabilizer idea that I pursued. It's assisting my upper body a lot and allowing me to ride relaxed with confidence. I'll be putting together a review video of the stabilizer this week for you to check out! The Precision is expensive but the huge range of adjustability and build quality makes it more than worth it.

    So unfortunate to hear how bad the crack down is out east. I'm assuming all the massive group rides through the metro areas have ruined it for everyone else 😢 I live in Mankato Minnesota. Parts of our state allow ditch riding during certain times of year. The pavement riding is unique to my county (Blue Earth County) I grew up riding a lot of these ditches and it was a pretty normal thing to see quads riding more often years ago. Since the sport has declined I rarely see anyone out riding anymore. The permit I have for riding pavement is definitely directed towards farmers but the DNR recommended I get it if I ever want to ride on the shoulder instead of the ditch. It's definitely fun to have the freedom to ride like this but I still prefer traveling to trail systems. As long as you're being respectful in the small towns and not being destructive at anytime then theres never any issues. I've been stopped quite a bit and they just check for registration.
