Back from the Dead! Custom Fuel Injection on the FLOODED Corvair: Will it Run?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

On today's video, we're back working on the custom fuel injection system for the Flooded Corvair. In part 1, we fabricated the intake manifold and laid out a general plan. In part 2, we're replacing the fuel lines with custom stainless steel and PTFE braided, as well as hopefully making this ol girl run again!

    DIS ignition will likely make it run excellent. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if you got improved fuel economy as well as a bit more power with a fully computerized engine management system. I'm glad it's working well for you, best of luck with the old girl!

    Speed density will be so much more easy as the things that can influence the maf within your system are things you can only just guess at. As I posted in your other video I didn't hear you talk about doing any flow calculations for your induction system. I'm guessing it's oversized for the size of that motor and the relative low max RPM you are working with. Also depending on your injector size and type it might be hard to control fuel precisely enough depending on their size. Best of luck.

    Speed density is a bit more user friendly but doesn't accommodate mods as easily as MAF. That being said, the next revision of the injection system will eliminate the MAF sensor. As for calculations, I didn't show on camera but have been working on this for about a year and some of the decisions made are for future plans for the car. It's a little large for the engine in its current config but will be good for the next iteration.

    Thanks for your great work! Runs good and has to get some corrections on the fuel and air side. Should be possible by the software. Ist your throttle too big? May be, if you can't handle it by software you need a smaller one. Just waiting for your ideas and how you get it on the road... 😉 Take care! 👍 👏👏🙋🏼‍♂️

    Thank you Joe! I knew that there would be a few things that would likely change with the design as it runs more, and I think the throttle body being a little too large may be one of them. Once the throttle cable is hooked up & we're driving I'll be able to know for sure.

    You may be able to dig the guts out of the stock distributor and shove a reluctor and pickup coil in there then connect it to a GM ignition module and HEI coil. All those parts are obtainable at Napa or AutoZone. Can’t wait for part 3!

    Well I'd sure like to see you convert that rig to distributor less ignition. Did you at the beginning of this EFI journey give any thought as to using an injector per cylinder instead of one per bank? I'm curious as to why you didn't go that route ? Nice work dude ! you have snatched the pebbles out of the master tig welders hand.

  • @sneff1052

    @sneff1052

    That would require modifying the head itself. You would have to turn down the intake runners and weld on individual runners. Welding cylinder heads isn't easy.

    @@MrTonyPiscatelleNo it would not. Many have tried and failed. The manifold has to be basically cut off and bungs plates welded in place of the log manifold. A lot of work for no gain on a basically stock engine. Distributorless ignition however would be an upgrade for any Corvair engine.
