I love the way Pete just jumps straight into playing a guitar, not caring if it's out of tune. He doesn't make excuses, and just plays his heart out. He makes me want to be the best songwriter I can be.

Babyshambles for me created one of the best British Rock n' Roll albums of the 2000's. Down in Albion is superb to but Shotters Nation took them to another level. Also its brilliant to see Pete clean of drugs and back making music with The Libertines. Hopefully another Babyshambles album will come along to.

Anyone laughing at Pete being fat should check out the new interview with Wolfman, who’s clearly still struggling and looks like a talking corpse. Pete looks healthy for the first time in a long time, which is what we want.

Shotter's Nation is 2nd division compared to Down In Albion. The change after Patrick left is glaring. After listening to Down In Albion, I find Shotter's Nation unlistenable. If it makes him happy good stuff, but he knows it's a second rate effort. Sad that Patrick left. They had so much promise after the first album. The highlight is Pete and Bert Jansch working together.

Honestly one of Pete's greatest weaknesses (another one) is confusing loyalty and love for his friends (which is great, sure) with them having some kind of talent that other people will enjoy as much as he does...in other words, Mik was a basic, dreadful guitarist, and the songs suffered for it.This album has many great lyrics when you look at them written down, but the sound is very average. It was let down by poor musicians. Some very generic repetitive choruses. Only lost art of murder has the full package...oh that's because he's got a real guitarist on it, Bert Jansch.

Poor musicians lol. Adam is a good drummer and a multi instrumentalist. Drew is a very good bass player and can play guitar. And mik is a good guitarist. He can play a lot better than you think. He plays to suit the music but he can do a lot more than what you think you know.

@@matthewjdouglas6471 There's a lot of live footage of both versions of the band. Mk 2 if you like are indeed a solid band but the difference in the actual songs, their structures and dynamics is definitely noticeable. The first album and second album are worlds apart. I think "Down In Albion" was the best thing that Pete Doherty was involved in as a writer an musician and that, to my ears and eyes was down to working with Patrick Walden. Sonically it is an exciting and consistently interesting work. I don't mean to knock any of the musicians on the subsequent releases, the magic of the first album is missing. Pete's lyrics are still interesting but the melodies that they are hung upon are lacklustre and lack the fluidity and sense of freedom that was part of the joy of the first album. Doherty himself has stated that Walden was the most gifted musician he has worked with, and it shows. Thanks.

@@matthewjdouglas6471 i saw them live tons of times - with both lineups. gemma was a superior drummer (and had so much more fun with it ) and pat a far superior guitarist though he used to over-do it on the feedback and stuff sometimes, when he was probably off his head. but he had the creative talent - and basic competence, honestly -that i just don't hear in mik's playing.
