Baby Snapping Turtle vs Creepy Creature

Ойын-сауық

We name our pet baby snapping turtle "Blurg", make him a new home, and then feed him an unidentifiable creepy creature!

Hey everyone, I know a lot of you are worried about the water level being too high for Blurg. I appreciate your concern; I am closely monitoring him, he loves going on the island and also resting on the blue pipes, however he also loves hunting in the deep and resting at the bottom for extended periods of time.

This creature is a diving beetle larvae. The difference between the diving beetle larvae and the dobsonfly/hellgrammite larvae is that the first mentioned breathe by swimming to the surface, using the tip of its abdomen, like we see at 6:00. The dobsonfly/hellgrammite larvae has tracheal gills and therefore doesn't need to swim to the surface to breathe. This major difference explains why the diving beetle larvae have developed legs more like delicate oars for swimming, while the dobsonfly/hellgrammite larvae have bigger scary legs like powerful anchors used to stick on to rocks etc.

Your delight, expression, and enthusiasm reveal so much of who we are supposed to be. ☺️ I feel like your spirit and humor just warms the heart of God so much because you display His heart for us - which is for us to find JOY in LIFE (which you do very well!!), and I can just feel His pleasure over you, and His love for you so much - like He actually gets really excited when you are out exploring, experimenting, and discovering all the things he made for you! ❤ He loves how you effortlessly display the JOY of the Kingdom, and He loves your youthful heart of anticipation, exploration, and fascination with creation. Thank you so much for sharing it with all of us. God bless you on your next adventure! 🐢🦞🐍🦎🐸

The creepy creature is a hellgrammite worm. They grow into pesky dobsonflies. If you want to try to find adult dobsonflies in the wild, try setting up a bug zapper. They're attracted to the light. Female dobsonflies have short, serrated mandibles, while males, have long, hooked ones.

  • @CMZneu

Close but no, this is a larva of a great diving beetle, hellgrammites have have gills and do not have to surface for air and this is why they aren't generally found in stagnant pools of water(like this one was) because they are low in oxygen compared to streams, also they have spiny legs along the sides of their bodies that help them anchor themselves to the bottom, unlike this one. It's a shame, these animals are fascinating to keep as pets.

I have one criticism though when it comes to the tadpoles please dont catch wild ones they are massively on the decline which would cause devastating repercussions on the environment like mosquito infestations. Just get some rosies (minnows) or guppies that are raised as food for bigger animals. If you genuinely care about the environment please take my comment seriously. Other than that nice job!

I have to agree. I don’t like the idea of making wild caught animals your pets. Buying a doomed Dungeness crab and making it your pet is okay, of course, but pulling an animal out of its environment and putting it into a man made environment is less than acceptable (I don’t want to use a strong word because I do appreciate your love of animals).
