Please watch your kids when they are with pets! Babies, who haven't learned respect yet, will pull fur, tails, etc. -- some pets tolerate it but it can hurt them and they will react. A lasting friendship between a pet and a well-taught child is a beautiful thing.

When my niece was in her crib crying or fussing, the cat would sit on a shelf above her and drop it's tail down swishing it back and forth JUST beyond the baby's reach. It would distract the child from her distress as my niece would watch and or try to catch the tail. The cat would *somehow* always keep it's tail just a FEW inchies beyond the baby's grasp. It was adorable. And this was a MALE cat (not relying on "mothering" instincts- just on loving behavior)

My twin grandsons moved in with me when they were 21 months old. I had 4 older small dogs and a few old cats. None of them had ever been around children. When the twins who were loud and active came in the door all the animals ran for cover except one cat. He followed them everywhere. He is there in all the early pictures of them. He put up with their clumsy ways and watched over them day and night. Now several years later he is still their favorite pet. They carry him around and argue over who gets to sleep with him. Cats can make great pets for children as long as the children are taught to be gentle and not hurt the cat.

We had two. One of mine when I was a toddler would let me lay jewelry all over him, then gently shake it off on the bed when he had enough. We never forget our furry family we grow up with. Had a brother and sister pair straight through uni from when I was ten, and a bit beyond. They lived to 16 1/2 and 17 1/2, frick and Frack, and I will always tear up still when there are fire flies, because Frack so loved to chase those. Last time we'd allow indoor/outdoor. Street and all way too busy now. Last pair were 100% indoor, and were with me from just after college for 17 1/2 and 19 1/2 years. ALL were gentle, all were loving. Had those four since kittens. All were stray/rescues, the brother and sister were dumped out of a box on the neighbor's lawn in the snow, and had been abused. Found them in the food bowl of the old tom that came with the house, and him crying. Mom can we keep them? YES! They were tiny...and went right onto our enclosed porch with a space heater and the old tom. Next morning, they seemed to have disappeared! Mom was like..OMG did he EAT them? Nope. They were under him being snuggled!

When I was a baby, and I cried the cat would go attack my mother to either get her to wake up or make her focus on me. Or the cat would have cuddled me back to sleep, she would sit on the railing or lay in bed with me for hours. She still alive and is 17 years old she’s great cat her name is Aurora.

907Bluebell your cat is nearing her sun set, you should get more cats, many cats are stray on the streets without a home, they belong in a home and not abandoned on the streets. Cats were created by God to serve as little guardians of humans. Just sad many people today are apathetic, working for selfish material desires and dont care about nature and God’s creatures.

Reminds me of how a co-worker got their cat. She was walking with her newborn in a stroller and stopped for a moment. A stray cat simply walked into the stroller and cuddled up with the baby. The baby simply cuddled back. Cat has been with them ever since.

I think religion is in large part to blame, its part of their motive to make humans seem like more than animals while animals are soulless creatures we use for food and our own purposes. They cant admit we are the same as cats and other animals, just a bit smarter.

Cats CAN Absolutely tell when you're pregnant. My cat Quincy knew I was pregnant before I did. She was not a chatty cat, nor a lap cat, but began following me around the house, laying next to me & carrying on a constant conversation. A month later, I learned I was pregnant, but for that month prior I thought Quincy was dying or sick & trying to tell me something. After my son arrived, she slept at the far end of his crib, keeping guard over him. I know that can be dangerous too, but I kept a close eye on her the first several times & when I saw no problems, I let her stay in there.

people that truly understand animals understand what could have potentially happened here Its a nice video. Obviously the kid has no clue what he's doing because hes too young. However, parents should be more mindful of children around animals. if somehow that kid squeezed too hard or somehow pulled twisted that cats reaction would have been completely different. Then everyone would have been complaining that the cat was evil. I'm glad it didn't happen but it could have easily. The best thing is to protect both the kid and pet from unwanted encounters by preventing the opportunity Show less

That's fine, but if a cat smacks a baby, it will be the adult's fault, not the cats. Babies grab, hit, and move fast. Most cats would perceive that as a threat. Not their fault for defending themselves. Against a PERCEIVED threat.

Every cat lover knows each cat is very way different. I have 2 siblings, a male and a female and rescued them as young kittens. The female will dig her claws in you if you grab her wrong way and the male almost acts like he doesn't even have claws. She will also dig her claws in your hand if you are withdrawing your hand after petting her where she really enjoys it.

Cats recognize a human baby IS a baby. They would treat the human baby like the way they would treat a little kitty with gentleness. They will also, in their way, try to teach the human baby or child how to behave. The problem is humans, including human parents and human babies, are not so sensitive towards the cat.

Cats are, to me, gifts from source, they are reflections of our inner selves. Achilles, who is my cat, adopted me almost exactly five years ago and life as it was at that time was, altered beyond belief, shall I say. Cats are tools if you will, some of us never use them and they become dull, but some of us do use them and they are sharp as claws. When I hurt or whatever, my cats always show up and lay on me and purr, when I am sad they always come to me and meow for my attention. Once, before I went through so much, my cat Kunya was laying on my chest and I was sad, I looked up and Kunya was crying real tears out of her eyes as she was purring, she was crying on top of me. That is what cats can do and more. P.S. Dogs are awesome too but cats, well there you are.

What you say about cats being tools and getting dull when we don't use them is absolutely true. They are all different, and I have had many, but whether they were "cuddlebugs" or "freshies" (usually the most intelligent as well as loving--on their own terms--and I loved them best), they rewarded my affection 100 times over, and I was always devastated when one of them died.

When my son was born, my cat was obsessed with him (he's still her favourite) and every time he cried, she would meow. Then, when my fiance and I got together, he brought 3 more cats into the family. Our son was about 1, and not very gentle. He was being rough with, honestly the best cat I've ever had, and the cats response was to put a paw, claws fully extended, on his hand, hold his hand down, and stare at him. My son was startled, and the kitty let go as soon as he got his point across. There wasn't a scratch on him. We then started joking about Pounce (the kitty) being my son's babysitter.

When she got pregnant he became her buddy and slept on her belly the entire nine months. When our daughter was born you couldn't pull them apart. She was always stretched out across King using him as a pillow and he wouldn't have it any other way.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER allow a baby or small child to pull on a cat's legs or anything else that the poor animal may misinterpret as a danger! Same with allowing a small child to do anything like that to a dog or other animal! And never allow any interaction with a small child and an animal, unless a responsible adult is present.

I never heard those myths, all I know is that my mother got a cat as there rats coming too near when she went to live in unsafe places, and he slept and protected me those first years, and went to get her if I fussed and needed her. That purr was the only thing that could relax me enough to sleep well, and I loved him very very much. And have had cats in my life since, and they still are caring and careful. If ever a baby comes to us, the cats will definitely stay to protect her/him..and teach them peace.

Amanda Roberts Absolutely 100% agree!! Kids aren't taught early enough (if at all) not to pull and animal around. I had a neighbour with a lovely dog, she allowed her toddler to smack and pull on the poor animal. Never once did it bare teeth until one day it obviously had enough and then the owner hit it. I reported them with full facts then proceeded to tell the neighbour I reported her. Rspca took the dog as it was underweight too. Next time she'll be more careful who's watching and who she picks as a friend 😆 because I'll report anyone. ....friends or family. People need to learn.

Maisie D I wish I can punch your neighbor with an iron fist. Good on you for reporting it ( the owner). It should've taught it's child to repesct animals. Because it didn't taught it's child to respect animals, now the poor child suffers. I hope both the dog and he child are okay. May karma falls on it. Also I'm not sorry for calling your neighbor an it. Trying to protect it's child should not excuse it because your neighbor could taught it's child to respect animals.

This sight CAN NOT tell a simple, concise story without strrreeettching it out and not getting to the point (content). They seem to want to alienate their viewers with excruciating fill. Now if this were additional insight, that would be fine. This way, it's just unending torture.

If one has enough patience to listen for a few, short minutes, it's obvious the descriptive monologue is well written. In all sincerity, it's a shame this fact is lost on you. Savouring life's little moments of joy is a beautiful thing. This video was all round magical, and life-affirming. The only criticism I have echoes that of fellow poster, J.T., who makes mention of the excessive number of ads that constantly appear throughout this video. They are the only detraction. It's a mammalian thing. And it's all about the smell. Cats are actually very protective toward babies and most baby creatures, including small children. I've even seen cats try to "escape" from toddlers who are treating them badly rather than hurt them. It's only when the adults allow the child to abuse the cat repeatedly, that it will lash out. Remember, with toddlers, you must always supervise their interactions with animals and teach them what is okay and what isn't. Pulling fur, tails or poking eyes should be stopped immediately. Show them how to stroke the fur and where the animals like to be petted.

I love cats and I would not jump to conclusions about a cat in any given case, but I would also not jump to conclusions about parents. Too many awful false accusations have been documented (remember the poor Australian woman who's baby was mauled to death by a dingo? Not only did she lose her child, she was accused of murder! And now people make jokes about the incident. Also, many, many SIDS deaths have been blamed on parents). Accidents do happen. Based on my own experience, I do think it is wise to take care. I had a cat with a very high prey drive; he was very loving to me and my husband, but the new baby he viewed as prey. His eyes would dilate and he would crouch, ears flat when he saw her flailing her arms the way newborns do. So we kept them separated when we could not watch them closely. He would not have suffocated her, but he would have attacked. He was not being 'bad', just following his instincts. His hunting skills were truly awesome to witness. We had a 'catio' with 9' high vinyl fencing; one day I looked out the window I saw him leap up around 10' to catch a bird out of the air as it flew over. Also, you aren't supposed to put pillows or stuffed animals in the crib with a baby, so it doesn't make sense to me to to let a baby sleep with real animals.

People are seeing this backwards. I'd feel more worried for the cat, since it's usually the babies or toddlers who are the aggressors and their parents are the ones who allow them to bother the animals, so cats will often feel helpless. That cat's like, "hey... Let go. What do you want? Dammit, I'm being watched. Do these guys want this kid to break my legs or something? He's as strong as I am and weighs a ton. If I strike this monkey, I'll be in trouble. Hmm... Maybe I can tame him." [licks baby]

Actually, yes cats can tell when your pregnant. They smell the change in your body. Most don’t give a crap. But now and then if you get a cat that loves babies and is a very good motherly type, they do care, and they won’t leave you alone till your hormones change back. They go out of their way to cuddle and love you! Lol. I have one such cat.

I know a woman who was quite sick and tired with her first pregnancy, so she spent a lot of time lying on the couch. Kitty LOVED that. When she became pregnant the 2nd time, Kitty knew and was so happy because he associated the smell with her being a couch potato. Sadly for him, she felt much better the 2nd time and he didn't get his Couch Mommy back. :-( So, yeah. They can absolutely smell the hormonal changes even if they might not know what the cause is.

Parents should still watch their babies they don't understand what they're grabbing sometimes and even the best dogs and best cats with manners sometimes get hurt

Exactly Cynthia Its a nice video.

The only reason the cat didnt claw the shit out of the baby is because he didnt actually hurt him. My 4 year old nephew came crying to me a cat swiped him, I asked him if there was any reason the cat might have hurt him and he 'lied' right to my face about not hurting the cat, I heard the pained yowl and believe it 4 year olds suck at lying. Children have a undeveloped sense of empathy and its up to the parents to keep the little monsters away from dangerous situations before they learn actions have consequences.

It is so cute and good of this cat to be gentle, but a little baby still does not know its own strength. (A cat is smaller than a baby, and also have delicate bones in the legs) THIS CAT was being kind, but you can see the cat was in some pain, despite being understanding.. it keeps staring at its leg. So, it's not like other cats who defend themselves are always being jerks. Arthritis, herniated discs and other things affect animals too. It's still a parents job to monitor interactions between baby and whatever else, and I cringe a bit when I see these.

nemoisdead I seriously do not think the kitty was in any significant or it would have indicated that pain by meowing or pulling away. Instead she treats him like a kitten. Also, the parent is probably making the video so if that’s not direct supervision I don’t know what is.

We have a Bengal, and he LOVES my 9 year old son. They’re both hyper and crazy, they chase each other back and forth through the house, and play hide and seek together. It’s insane how much this Bengal loves his human. I fully believe that if anyone ever tried to hurt my son, our Bengal would protect him like his own.

Hundreds of todlers are rushed into the hospital yearly due to accidents caused by unsupervised home pets. Please do not let babies with cats alone. Make sure you are holding the baby so he does not hurt the animal causing an aggressive response from the Pet.

ZombiesLogic nope. Animals are more pure hearted than people. They can have behavioral problems due to organic diseases, stress or traumatic experiences. But they never act on hate as people do.

Gaetano Dragonetti That's completely not true. Cats, or any other animal for that matter, can be mean without being sick or having trauma. My brother has a cat he raised as a newborn and she's the meanest cat ever. She has never had trauma and is absolutely healthy. Every creature has their own personality, as the other commenter suggested.

He was a giant blue persian, 22 lbs and so formidable he never came home with even a tiny scratch over the 8 yrs I had him from a kitten, then one Valentines Day he disappeared into the Great Alaska Wilderness. He left a hole in my heart so big it's been 12 years and I still tear up missing him. I cherish my memories with him.
