I've started thinking of the VMS/F as Vervet Heaven... after the should-be-famous Rat Park study (1978-'81). They're the Gold Standard for monkey rescue.

Beau is so thin. But trust in you to make him a chunky happy little monkey. The best thing is always to see their eyes turning from black sadness to bright happiness. Thank you all for what you do. It's magic.

This. Even a few days an you can see the improvement. He KNOWS he's safe, loved, and going to continue feeling better.

Bo's eyes are so bright. He is cute as a button!! He has hope in his eyes..I know that look. When you've been feeling hopeless to hopeful....

If someone kept us baby intentionally for a short while shame on them oh, they had to know this may be needed immediate emergency attention thank God for the vervet monkey Foundation they are indeed a gift from God

Ok , I went from one of the saddest VMF episodes to one of the most hilarious ! That was something it’d be hard to even dream up that these guys might do. Too funny !

So glad to see so many babies getting new moms. Poor little Beau. He looked so sad and weak. But, thanks to all your wonderful care he seems to be thriving. He is the cutest little monkey. Love his big eyes. Another great episode. Thank you everyone for your tireless efforts in caring for all these monkeys. God bless you all.

I'm happy that Beau made it, he looked so very sad at first when he first came in, but by the 3rd, or 4th day his eyes was getting life in them. He's such a good sweet baby❤️

Wow! What a transformation in Beau in such a short time. Thanks to your knowledge and skill with the rehydration, antibiotics, pain control, immune support and lots of love he went from a very sick and bewildered baby to being alert, interested and tucking into the fruit he liked in just a couple of days and nights. He needed the sleep and the gradual reintroduction of food so badly. He was so poorly on arrival but I really hope his recovery continues to match his will to live. You did wonders with him.

Right? When her arrived it was so obvious he was checked out. He'd given up; he was miserable, starving, scared, hurting, and just done. By the end of the video you could see in his little eyes that he was ready to live. He's finally enjoying life. The people who had him probably meant well but didn't know what to do. Happily he ended up in Vervet Heaven and is already starting to realize how lucky he is. Can't wait to see what troop he ends up in.

I enjoy the educational narratives Dave gives in the videos. So many dynamics of monkey behavior he knows well. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.

Sweetest little guy! I could see in his eyes that he really didn't much care what you did to him; in his heart he was ready to give up. Now, he'll be living his BEST monkey life!! Thanks to all the staff who put their heart and soul into these sweet babies!

I love this video! The babies are so busy. They have hooked up with good moms. I'm so relieved to see how well Beau has improved. His eyes are so clear and bright. Beau's wound is healing nicely. Thanks again for taking great care of these babies and helping to hook them up with new moms.

God bless all of you at VMF the hard work you all do shines brightly! Little Beau was so so poor and just days later looks with those beautiful eyes to say thank you for helping me. So sweet. Brave little Beau - I send you good energy and hope you will get better after you getting love and lots of care

You inspire me. My offspring is 7 so we have a bit of a wait (plus I need to talk my mum around, she would be in heaven working there but doesn't realize it yet.) before we can come as volunteers. Hopefully by then my novels will be turned into a Hulu series and I'll be able to bring some financial support with my own (odd, silly, autistic, and quirky) self, and my wonderful child (Little Bird is amazing with animals). Until then, I've started doing my own small rescue work with cats. My local area is rural and we have a feral and stray cat problem. I've been catching or taking in feral and stray felines, especially pregnant ladies. We let them have their babies, see them all sterilized, and either let them free in their colonies or find them homes. Sometimes I laugh because kittens and baby monkeys are so similar.

I think they said it was an adult male monkey that bit him that caused the infection.... I didn't get the rest of the story but I think left behind

We first check there is a good ratio of males to females and then try them in a cage alongside the troop first to see if females and babies accept each other.

What happened to the young man that used to host the show. I though he did an excellent job. He seemed full of compassion for these animals. I respect all you do for these animals. Does anyone have an e-mail for the afore mentioned young man. Bless you all, Jerry

Question; do you know- are all the species of old world monkeys predisposed to adopting orphaned babies of their kind? (Given that the babies get supplemental milk and nutrition like your bottle cages)? I'm guessing that the answer is yes, but would like to know from your experience..🙏🏼 Especially if the family bond remains strong like a mother-daughter biological relationship...

I cant talk for all species of old world monkeys but most females have a natural instinct to nurture, that being said we do have a semi controlled environment that we select who is allowed in, I dont want people to think you can just throw a baby into a troop there is a good chance it will be killed. once adopted the family bond seems to remain strong

They can be in the troop but we can't keep an alpha female away from her troop for too long or there can be chaos without their leader.

The bandit monkeys are the wild monkeys in the area. The monkeys in the captive, semi wild troops, have been rescued, mostly as babies and introduced to adoptive mothers.

This is a general question.... Do u have a neuter/spay program for help with population?

I have tried watching this show before and the only thing I see wrong is they talk most of the show instead of talking about the animals. I want to see the monkeys. I don’t want to watch someone talk about them for a half hour and see 5 minutes if the monkeys. I like when they are feeding, handing out with other monkeys, napping things like that.

Why only one kind of monkey you take in ??

Precious, I think her name was. Also - how do you get such good foster moms? I read that it's rare for vervets to adopt orphans. Is it more or less likely than with macaques? I've seen quite a few videos where (in the wild and in captivity) macaque females adopt an orphaned infant, either unrelated or a relative (distant or grandchild, etc). It's very interesting and heartwarming to see. Many thanks to anyone who replies and shares information :) ~ S

The Alpha female can and if interested would just claim the orphan, we just can't take her out of the troop for the time necessary for the introduction - its not the adoption that's the problem its the milk, and no mother wants a starving crying baby clinging to her that she can do nothing to appease

@@VervetMonkey I see! Thanks for the quick response. I didn't even consider whether the female was lactating and assumed it was solely related to her alpha status. I have heard of instances where a female monkey adopts and is induced to lactate through suckling. Definitley not worth the risk of attempting this though when there are ready and willing foster moms available to take the babies. Your team's hard work and dedication are awe inspiring, these little ones are very lucky to end up at the Foundation :)
