    So not only does a parent orangutan have to actively protect their small offspring from predators but they also have to keep them from eating lethal handfuls of mud - which is EVERYWHERE. Talk about a stressful parenthood.

    In the wild they rarely go onto the ground. They are vulnerable to predators on the ground so they live the vast majority of the time tree dwelling. So the mud isn’t actually a normal experience for them.

  • @TheCyberSpidey

    @TheCyberSpidey

    Exactly what Penny said, wild orangutans don't really spend time on the ground. Wild infants even moreso, they just physically latch onto their mothers all the time - now that is stressful :D Makes you wonder how much of a chance these babies have of getting back to the wild. Sabah/Sepilok (in this video) seems to have a bad record with rehabilitation. Nyaru Menteng (BOS/Indonesia - Borneo) have a bit more hands off approach but they care for their residents for a long time. Meanwhile in Sumatra, SOCP rehab lasts only months and rescued Orangutans expected to not return to the rehabilitation camps. Different approaches, different outcomes, none of it is normal/close to a wild orangutan's life. Our consumption keeps forcing more and more orangutan infants into this predicament however.

    mr plantation owner sir. i think what she was trying to say was thank you for not leaving that baby alone out there to die. also, for taking him in and providing food and shelter when you didn't have to. also, thank you for calling the appropriate people to come and take the baby to where the right people with the right skills, right area and right reasons for doing this. your actions most likely saved that orangs life from wild dogs and humans that would kidnap, torture train and sell him. i know she emphasized heavily that you fed him crisps, but she didn't know they were Pringles.

    Ikr.. she can't even pronounce their name properly. 🙇🙇🙇 (..."OrangUTANG" instead of the phonetically correct 'Oo-tahn' ) Even just as it is SPELLED 'Utan' would suffice. There is NO 'G' at the end of ORANGUTAN..... Yet she wants to shame another's ignorance!?!? It is not right what he did, but exactly as you said.. He could of but didn't, sell him to the illegal pet trade, or just LEAVE HIM. If anything, they took him, WITHOUT looking for his mother, who 100% WOULD have returned to find her baby. Instead of setting up a patrol and surveillance, for DAYS at least.. especially if she was alive but injured. The could've rendered crucial attention, assistance and aid (if needed) to a wild BREEDING AGED, female and MOTHER of him, but they just took him. They could have potentially reunited mother and baby, and relocated them *together* , but no. They didn't even try. Don't get me wrong, I'm SO grateful for what they do, but when a mother is 'chased away' and not proven deceased.... that should ALWAYS be the first and only action taken, unless proven impossible. 😢

We can't just keep changing the spelling of things and, *Pronouncing It that way too* . The world is too confusing already. It just shows ignorance, imo, and ignorance is what got these beautiful sentient beings in their sorry situation, on the brink of EXTINCTION, in the first place. The world needs educating, sure, I get that. That is WHY it is so empirical to get those who are doing the educating, to be 100% educated themselves. I understand that different languages can have trouble and AM VERY forgiving, but the ones who say "URANG" are predominantly English/British, so I'm sorry, but they should know better. Given the time and familiarity that the keeper's enjoy, then like a school-teacher with a new class of children, they will be able to identify each individual.
