Baby Opossum Mighty Bark 😆

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

We had a live animal call from for a restaurant in downtown reporting a Opossum in their outdoor linen storage bin, and we discovered this momma and her seven little joeys. And yes, since opossums are marsupials their young are called joeys, like Kangaroos. Be sure to subscribe for more animal calls and to watch the entire call which will be published ahead on our channel.

    @Rick Wilkinson Both possum and opossum correctly refer to the Virginia opossum frequently seen in North America. In common use, possum is the usual term; in technical or scientific contexts opossum is preferred. Opossum can be pronounced with its first syllable either voiced or silent .

    Gosh, I love them too. They are one of my absolute favorite animals. I like to catch them and let them hang by the tail from my hand as I investigate them. They usually put up a really fierce act as a first line of defense, but most of that is just that, an act. Once you get one by their prehensile tail and hang it upside down, they will chill right out and normally just hang out and listen to you talk with their wiggly little ears. They are also, to my knowledge, the only marsupial native to the United States. Around here where I live, people's first reaction is to kill them. That's their reaction to most animals they don't understand. It saddens and disturbs me for it to be that way, so I do whatever I can to change the narrative of the opossum in their feeble minds. They are not here for us to kill. And, if you do kill one, you very likely may be killing a sweet mama possum who has a pouch full of helpless little babies.

    Plenty of opossum content can be found here kzread.info/head/PLxzuCqdKlTsvxjwInbbvlA-Xe-1gcxrMK **Remember - opossums are marsupials which means they are "pouched mammals" ** The opossum has an average lifespan of 1 to 2 years. This short lifespan is due in part to the presence of many predators including dogs, cats and people. Cain Mathewson Due to heavy predation, and a predilection for becoming road kill, possums typically live only a measly two years in the wild, and even those living in captivity succumb to old age quickly. And this death rate is despite a few startling immunities. Cain Mathewson Thanks for watching the video, I appreciate you, Welcome to the channel - BHB

    We lived to a more “rural” part of San Francisco a few years ago (yes, we have some woodsy areas here lol) and suddenly we had CRITTERS coming around and interacting with our cats. The most gentle and sweet were the opossums. They’d just sit next to our cats and hang out on the porch. Unlike those crazy confrontational raccoons that will attack you and your pets.

    Some of those raccoons are just plain nuts. I had one that roamed around that was ok. It came up when I was eating pizza one night on my porch. I tossed a piece to it and it say next to my chair and ate it. It waddled off when it was done. It regularly came by whenever I was on my porch and just hung out. Called him Meatball.

    I Love most animals, but have seen & heard things about raccoons that make me kind of scared of them. I volunteered at a wildlife center in San Rafael (Marin County). Some raccoons were captured & placed temporarily in a crate. They were angry & aggressive and we were told to not approach them. A home owner once said they couldn't get a group of aggressive, feisty (I'm being nice) raccoons out of their back porch & yard enclosure, and had to call professionals. Heard stories of them drowning dogs. One near my home appeared to be stalking my cat. Here in WA, a neighbor saw one sneak up on a large, sleeping mallard duck, and though it fought hard, lost its life. 😥 (Neighbor not close enough to save it.) Raccoons were in my neighborhood for long time - heard they attacked people's cats (in fact heard frequent cat yowling at night during that time) I also think they went after a squirrel (maybe trying to protect its babies?) - heard defensive, fearful screaming for a while. (Pretty sure the poor squirrel lost. 😞) They frequented a short urban, wooded trail that I frequently use to get home. I encountered them on the trail & had to nicely ask "permission" to pass. My apartment neighbor had a family frequent his back porch area with trees around. He fed them & insisted they were harmless & didn't hurt his cats. Go figure. I think they can be docile when you're the local diner, but if you cross them they can get nasty and are NOT afraid of humans. Most people think they're darling & harmless, as I once did, but I've since become wary of them.

  • @crystalparker2542

    @crystalparker2542

    @@barbarahill9176 the issue there is that people feed them. That is what makes them unafraid of humans. Wild animals should be left alone and people just dont get this. I live in the country, have all my life and spent much time in the woods, and ive never encountered a raccoon acting that way. They wont even come close around here, but people dont bother them or feed them. Closest ive come to that is hearing one outside my tent while camping at the lake, and all they do there is get in trash at night.

    A while back this huge possum grab one of my ducks , I stepped out of the patio as the possum was in his attack mood , it was making a lion roar sound immobilizing the duck with fear , I never thought a possum could make this sound considering possums just about the most quiet animal around .

    I once bottle fed possums who's Mom had died. They were pulled out of their deceased Mom's pouch. They were so sweet. They were no bigger than two inches long when I got them and would wrap their little tails around my finger when I fed them. They were just precious.
