Marko (Baby Lasagna) was totally anonymous in Croatia before this competition. He created, wrote and composed this song himself in his bedroom on his computer. The song was inspired by the departure of his friends from his small town to big cities and other countries. So he sings about a young man leaving his home and everything and going away, trying to find better life, leaving everything he loves behind.. That is big problem in Croatia, many young people left to other countries because of economic reasons. Anxiety is mentioned since people leaving their homes feel a bit anxious and also because it's something that the singer himself is fighting with. Marko puts elements of tradition in his stage performance (like hose big sleeves which are part of traditional Croatian (Istrian) costume and Marko is from Istria). Also the dancers are dancing traditional dance. He is connecting tradition with his genre of music. 😊 The song wasn't even written for Dora (national competition), his friend persuaded him to send it to competition after hearing it. And then, he was only backup (reserve) song and entered contest after other artist dropped out, so he had only 1 month for preparation. Marko had never ever performed as a vocalist before this competition. He was a guitarist for metal band and he is a songwriter, thus the inspiration. Also, he is wild, loud and very outgoing on stage, but off the stage he is actually introvert, kind, shy and very humble person. I would love Marko to win, but if he doesn't, I know that we will still be very proud of him. We'll enjoy seeing him on stage in Malmo and he will have our support, no matter the results. ❤❤❤ Greetings to all fans, let's have great show in Malmo and best of luck to all contesters 🎉🎉🎉

Eurovision final my ass it was Baby Lasagna's concert

His story by the way is amazing. This was a reserve song that was not supposed even to compete, he got on stage by accident because contestant dropped out,, he had only 1 month to shoot a music video and make a performance , this was the first time he actually performed on stage in front of a camera !!!! He had 50 spotify listens for this before Eurovision, not assigned by any music company . he wrote , produced and made this song all by himself in his bedroom . I mean his story is jaw dropping and incredible and now, he is on top amongst the best to win the whole thing.

​@@pocaloca3238but where's the problem with that? The only reason people draw these comparisons is because guys like Kaarija and Baby Lasagna pop out. Nobody cares about rinse and repeat ballad and pop singers that come to ESC year after year and nobody cares cause they're ultimately all made from the same mould. After the 1st semi, I was thinking he should change the sleeves, but now I hope he keeps them. They're a (oversized) part of his heritage, who cares if Kaaeija had another piece of outfit with somewhat similar shoulders or whatever. If keeping the sleeves is gonna cost him, so be it. If people are gonna choose another version of "I'm so sad, you left me" cause he keeps them, fine. Ultimately, both of them share their influences and both of them brought a meaningful song to ESC. Kaarija's was a commentary on (over)use of alcohol in Finnish society, while Baby Lasagna sings about our decimated villages and country. Both of them did a great job putting it in a way that's fun, exciting and energetic. If the fact they both wear similar sleeves or that both of them have limited vocal capabilities will take away from the artistic value of their entries, we can just give the win to anyone who is most sad about their love life - such a fresh and original topic.

I get what you mean, but it was HRT's decision to add 2 semifinals to the national selection, thereby putting more contestants up for the public vote. And even then Baby Lasagna was a mere backup. This just shows how while some HRT producers have good ideas, others are quite bad at their job

We actually won in 1989😊 it was under the Yogoslavian flag but it was a band from Croatia - Riva❤ The ESC 1990 took place in Zagreb 😊

The same. I live in Bosnian Krajina area and ZG is closer than Sarajevo so I hope ESC 2025 visit Zagreb. But we can not vote from Bosnia. It is so awful. Our country sucks on every level.

People who call this a copy of käärijä clearly don't explore music much outside of their own little bubble, so when it comes to anything that's outside of their own taste, everything sounds the same. And if that's not the case then just have an open mind and stop being so cynical.

@@decimus3966 yeah, in all honesty the closest thing you can say is that kaarja and baby lasagna both took inspiration from the same kind of music, that rammstein kind of music - so they're related in genre but, you know, far from copies of each other
