Baby Iris' Hearing Loss Update || Mild Hearing Loss, Development and Hearing Aids

Baby Iris' hearing loss update took me a while. This is what happened after she failed her initial hearing test after birth. She actually failed her standard hearing test twice and was then referred for further testing. Mild hearing loss in an infant is an odd thing as you are not sure if you actually need to intervene and use hearing aids or not.

Thank you so much for telling your experience. My baby was 2 months when they diagnosed him with mild to moderate hearing loss. I was extremely confused because if he was never diagnosed I would of never known he had it. He smiles when we talk to him, he startles with sounds, he stops talking when he hears the tv. They recommend hearing aids which we just got and he is turning 4 months this week. I am extremely confused, but I decided to get them just in case it will effect his development. It’s so hard to make Decisions.

@@zayratosca4372 He is doing very well with and without the hearing aides! We use the hearing aides but not all the time. The audiologist recommended him to wear them all waking hours, however, my husband and I decided to have them on most of the time just so he doesn’t get used to them if he doesn’t need them. It’s hard to believe he has a hearing loss just because he reacts very well to sound. But they are the experts and we just have to take their word for it. How do you feel about it ? Do you feel the same as well? This is all just so new to me and I would love to hear your opinion.

She is so cute! My friend's child has profound hearing loss as she would be giving oral "sleeping medicine" before she had some of her tests. Maybe they will do something like that? Anyway, good luck. My friend's daughter has bilateral cochlear implants. It has been a tough journey.

I am so glad I could find your video, you are the only person I could find who talks about this issue. My son was also diagnosed with mild hearing loss at 9 weekes. He is affectwd at 30-35db and they recommend hearing aid but I don’t know what to do. I keep thinking maybe it will get better with age as he developes more. Did your daughters other appointments show improvement in the test results? Thanks in advance.

Yes I know what you mean. Iris shows more signs she can hear the older she gets. It seems there is nothing wrong at all. It is a mild hearing loss. For now she doesn’t need hearing aids. It she is constantly monitored in case her hearing starts to get worse.

hi, my baby startled when i called her with loud voice, but she has "REFER" both ear in the report. im waiting for 2nd appointment on 6 weeks, my baby is currently 1 week. doctor said it might be just the birth fluid in ear. im so scared. :((((

Yes it is possible it the birth fluid as she is still so small. Everything will be ok. Even if there is an issue with her hearing you will be able to deal with it as she is so young.

@@AthinaKarpouzis Hi , I am facing a similar stressful scenario now where my baby boy has failed hearing tests twice, he is 56 days old now . He startles to loud sound, not sure where the problem is. He hasn't social smile yet . We have been advised to take BERA test at 3 months. How about the milestones achieved my your baby at 2 months, when did she did social smile? Did you get a feeling like she is not listening to you when she was 2 months old. Not sure if there is a development delay for my son.
