to people saying things like “Why can’t they just breastfeed their babies?” Not everyone can produce breast milk and sometimes babies can have trouble latching on to a nipple. Also older babies don’t really drink milk from their mothers so they need formula

The AAP recommends breastfeeding for the first 12 months and the WHO recommends at least 2 years old breastfeeding. So yes, older babies do really drink milk from their mothers. Formula isn't an absolute necessity for every baby.

@@AsinT. It depends on the baby’s age and whether they can handle dairy. But, yeah, if your baby is almost a year old, increase the solids and give them whole fat milk. If they can’t handle dairy, give them some almond or soy and make sure they’re getting enough nutrition and fats from their solid foods. Honestly, for older babies who can drink milk and eat solids, those moms should leave the formula for the moms of younger babies.

I'm really happy that moms who can actually produce breast milk can help other moms by providing their breast milk to other moms in need. (Whoa thanks for all the likes very much appreciated!)

@@Emerald_Forge it can be unsafe. who knows what's in peoples systems that they're now transferring to the milk.

My husband used to work for WIC and a good replacement for times when you can't find formula is goats milk. It's much easier to digest than cows milk and it could be a good supplement for people while this shortage is happening. It won't be a solution for everyone, but if it can help at least one baby be fed, I think this info is worth sharing 💕

Yes AND also A2 milk, or any type of animal milk besides standard western cow's milk. Maybe lactase pills can be added to regular milk before given to children but idk.

@@kaig8643 personally I live near a goat farm so I actually go there, but you can find them at many different natural type grocery stores. Sometimes Safeway/Wal-Mart/Fred Meyer stores will sell it, I've found it in those places before but it's always random of when they would have it or not. So I would recommend a natural grocery store, those almost always have it

Yesss my sister was allergic to cows milk but goats milk worked like a charm. Her nick name is goat to this day but honestly goats milk really helped her

All this commotion about the rights of babies to have a life and yet the ones that already have lives can’t even get formula because there’s literally none. Let’s get our priorities straight.

ignoring the troll above me, it's probably just bad timing for parents. things go out of stock crazily all the time. there was a point in time where finding a certain bag of Takis proved impossible, that quickly fixed itself so hopefully this will too. 🙏🏾

I'm lucky because my son actually tolerates switching formulas. I feel horrible for moms and babies that need a special kind/brand of formula. I was happy to pay $40 for the last 32oz can Wal-Mart had left the other day... It's insane and those scalpers that try to make a quick buck off other's necessity and desperation to feed their children need to be prosecuted.

Those people who re-sell the formula in much higher $$ need to be taken care of by law enforcement. Just like how they take care of those hand sanitizer price-gouging scalper during pandemic. I hope the situation would get better soon. Sending prayer and love to all the moms over there ❤️

This brought me to tears. When COVID first happened this was a small problem for my son and I. However, he's just switched to whole milk a couple months ago. It just breakd my heart and scares me so bad. I'm only 22, I genuinely wouldn't have know what to do if I was in the position of these brave mom's.

It's interesting how many women struggle to breastfeed nowadays...I myself had trouble providing enough for my 2nd child years ago. Makes you wonder what the heck is in the food/air/water/medicine that so many women struggle...

The thing is its a chain reaction because when people start panicking more people start to panic and it makes the shortage even worse

This breaks my heart. My wife pumped without issues and she gave it all away to help one of our family members. Pumping is definitely hard work I can just imagine the babies that take formula. I pray this shortage ends quickly for you all 🙏🏽

Having a newborn up until about a year with my daughter was the most stressful time of my life. Stressful but beautiful and completely worth it. I literally just couldn’t produce milk for her. It was extremely stressful and I tried everything and felt horrible about myself for not being able to do it. I can’t imagine how awful this is for parents

@@danishaw1293 Yes we need a cultural shift to the days when it was expected that mothers would breast-feed, it’s the best thing for your children, there’s no argument on that.

Having the same issue with my baby,… it’s beyond horrible! There seriously has to be a better way because my great grandmother who lived well into her 90s was only breastfeed for a few months after birth then given treated goats milk which was boiled and skimmed. IDK HOW DID PEOPLE DO IT BEFORE FORMULA!

I seemed my daughter off of formula in February, just before the shortage became a big thing in my area… I am so incredibly thankful that I made the choice I did, not being able to breastfeed I would have been panicking. My heart absolutely goes out to all the moms struggling to find food for your babies. This should not be happening in North America.

I wasn't able to breastfeed and mychild had allergies to regular formula, so relying on special kind of formula was our priority number 1 for a while. This was 18 years ago and I couldn't even imagine not having formula for my kid..I just can't even imagine the pain...oh my gosh 😭 Praying for all the mommies who've been struggling with this nonsense. Why don’t you just feed them the milk that was meant for them? I get that not every mother can produce milk but most just don’t want to deal with it and that’s not right.

I appreciate mothers who help other mothers. Compassion still exists, and it's very encouraging.

Being a teenager that was allergic to cows milk as a child, while my mom couldn’t produce breast milk, this angers me. This is only 14 years after I had to be on formula, which makes me think how this world could have possibly gotten to this point.

It’s been hard! We’ve been having family from other states look for ours and mail it when they find it! And that’s what has saved us so far. The hypoallergenic formula our daughter is on seemed to vanish in our state and there is no eta on when it’ll be in stock at basically every store we’ve gone to searching. This is crazy

Wow I wonder how mothers got formula thousands of years ago. Must have been hard to find them stores.

When I used to work at Target we had these groups of guys come in (one at a time) buying whole cartloads of baby formula. They always had some sort of rebate coupon so they would get enormous discounts. Whenever we’d see them they’d always be talking on the phone in another language other than English- turns out they were selling the formula overseas for higher prices. I remember asking if it was allowed for them to be buying such absurd amounts of formula but they (management) didn’t seem to have any issues surprisingly. Interesting how this problem seems to have become a lot bigger!

Just like the toilet paper hoarding situation. Moms will get resourceful, whether it's milk sharing, re lactating, or using family recipes for homemade formulas. Hugs to all moms doing their best!

I called my grand baby’s pediatrician & the office gave me a few bottles! This will hold us over till her next office visit. She’ll be 1 in a few more days and we’ll see if she can drink regular milk. I feel terrible for mom’s that have infants.

When I was growing up, mothers made their own formula with Carnation milk and Kayro syrup, have they forgotten how ?

I have twins … the stress is so real .. this is what they NEED to be talking about on the news 💯

Cows milk is not the best replacement but better then nothing. Just it has to be fresh from farm cows boiled and mixed with boiled water 1:2

Before formula existed babies drank goat's milk. Then in 1950's/1960's doctors gave instructions for homemade formula, look it up. They're saying not to use homemade formula, but you have to feed your child something (and those babies back in the 1950's & 1960's survived it just fine). Amazon takes SNAP and I see some formula on eBay, too. Best of luck to you moms.

When i clicked this I thought this was from may of 2020, I didn't realize this was going on right now. Scary.

What a smart mom she's utilizing family members in different states to get formula. I hope that they get the shipping logistics corrected so babies can get their milk.

I love that the breastfeeding moms helped out and donated❤️

My mom was driving around all over the place to get formula for my little brother until he finally moved to regular milk.

Evaporated milk 1/2 cup Water 1/2 cup Karo syrup 1 tsp That's the old school recipe

Don't forget the vitamin drops... and yes that's old old school that comes from my great grandmother. You can use Pet milk or Carnation evaporated milk😉👍🏿

Please do not feed the babies puppy or kitten formula. Goat milk is a good sub. Though.

I'm glad to see moms who can pump share there milk to other baby's that's such a beautiful thing to see and help others but, the shortage in formula is the worst I seen and my heart goes out to all moms looking for formula. I wish I could pump an produce but men can't 😥 because I'd share to others if I could.

Men actually can! Men have breast tissue (that’s why they can get breast cancer), milk glands, and produce prolactin, the milk production hormone. All you have to do is pump frequently for a couple of days and you will start producing milk!

Humans for 150,000 years lived without "Formula" we we're fine.

We had a similar shortage in Australia a few weeks ago. It’s especially tough if your child is a adolescent with a disability about to go into surgery! We almost had to go to the Hospital because there was nothing left! My mother had to drive all over the city, and employees of the manufacturer of the formula had to stock up in their own homes so that we could keep going for another few days! And that’s all because they couldn’t get the formula shipped in from overseas! *WE FEEL YOU AMERICA!!!*

What worries me about this formula shortage is counterfeiting. Companies overseas likely making counterfeit formula and sell as the real stuff online.

That is ridiculous! No excuses.

I don’t know if it’s different now but when I had my son at the end of 2019 I wasn’t able to produce enough to feed him so we had to eventually give him formula at a month old so I feel for these mothers. But when we went to one of his doctors appointments they told me that if I wanted donor milk we would have to pay out of pocket $80 for about 3 days worth of milk (and that was hoping he would eat a normal amount). So I really hope something is happening to help women who can’t produce or find formula be able to afford donor milk! 💞

i’ve also seen doctors offices giving out their samples to moms too but they can’t even get stock in super sad

Yet they want the younger generations to have more kids… like bruh we already can’t afford houses by ourselves without having a roommate or spouse. Like it’s stressful enough Not to mention if people want kids, they wanna make sure they can properly take care of them. I hope they can get this crisis under control

Can the government/stores buy formula from factories in other countries?

Marking up essential items is considered illegal known as price gouging. Remember when toilet paper and waters were rare to find during the pandemic and people sold them for outrages prices on eBay or other markets? I hope this will return to normal in a couple of months, but shame on the person who marked up all the baby formulas.

yes 20 years ago my mom found some that has wic and was getting formula that was extra at cost puls shipping no markup

I had paid 20$ over regular price for formula on Facebook market place. As a new Father it hurts me as well. When I heard that Similac had a recall. Enfamil was my only option. But where I stay at it’s hard to find any kind of Formula for babies.

Try goats milk it's safe for lactose intolerant and easer for baby tummy to digest. It's a good last option if you can't find/can't pay for the can of formula. Goats milk also comes in powder form as well. Good luck my guy!

@@jaymesmorris3990 goats milk can cause intestinal bleeding in babies under 1. I wouldn't recommend it. That's what formula is for if the mother can't produce milk or If the father is taking care of the child.

There is a ton in the Bronx bodegas and no markup prices! I totally feel bad for those parents not able to find baby formula!

This is terrible. Everything is going down the drain these days.

It's funny that before manufactured formulas babies were doing fine! We lost the touch our ancestors had, we need to look back and start feeding our kids like the old-timers did and not rely on companies to feed our kids!

@@coolbreeze1431 some babies can be allergic and some can not like it/ refuse to drink. also what about the single dads? and a lot of moms can produce milk, but a lot also can barely produce.

When some ignorant person opens their mouth to tell us what we can start doing about the shortage, do YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST. Not all of us wanted to use formula but HAD to because, in my case, I didn’t produce enough milk for both my sons who were born 2yrs apart. I started to breast feed but had to start supplementing at when my oldest was 2 months. With both my kids I had to give up breast feeding at 4 months bc there wasn’t enough milk. I am at least thankful I got to experience it.4

Not to mentiom the OTHER COPIOUS reasons why a baby is on formula. Like the baby is adopted and the new parent cant lactate on command, the parent is on medication that will affect their milk and be transferred to the baby, the parent is HIV positive, The parent had a mamosectory before getting pregnant, or the parent is a single dad with an infant baby!

i live in alabama and the stores near me have formula in store and online similac advance for example is $17.46 for a 12oz can im looking at the website now i was shocked when i heard!! none of my friends with kids said they had problems finding any.

It's beyond heartbreaking to see these women struggle.
