    My Kindergarten teacher used this method to make hand prints for my class in 1960. This is by far THE best hand print method. It shows every finger print and wrinkle of the hand or foot. It’s great!

    The window glaze smelled like straight gasoline. It also says on the tub to not get it on your skin. I really wanted to try this but I just couldn’t put my baby’s hand in all those chemicals. Looks super cute though! I might try salt dough instead for the mold

    You won’t get the fine hand print wrinkles and finger prints with any other method. Neither myself, my kids or grandkids suffered any ill effects from touching this stuff.

    You can also mix acrylic paint with the plaster so that the color doesn't chip or rub off on anything

    Thanks for sharing this wonderful project idea. I went ahead and bought the following: Dap 12121 1-Pint 33 Glazing Compound White Pint - $6.49 DAP Plaster of Paris Dry Mix 4lb Tub - $5.88 8 in Wooden Embroidery Hoop - $1.89 The glazing was very hard to handle but I found that leaving it open in air did harden it a bit and made it easier to mold/smooth it. Tried replacing the glazing with salt dough but couldn't capture the fine lines from the hand/foot prints.

    If you knead the glazing compound for a bit, the texture improves. Salt dough will not give you the fine wrinkles. Only the glazing compound will do that.

    I so agree with Taslima. If you knead the glazing compound a bit it will form into an easier product to work with.

    The MSDS sheet for DAP Window Glazing indicates that it SHOULD NOT be in contact with skin and you should not inhale the vapors. This material is not safe for adults to touch without gloves, let alone a child.

    yes! but its risky. Ive done it before, you need to chisel a bit,.. could crack... If that happens you could always glue it back together.

    Yes, but coat the inside of the ring with Vaseline or you will have to chip it out. You can very gently remove the ring before the plaster fully dries.

    litgamer 4900 yes. Play-doe works much better. Gives a better print. The glaze dries fast so you don’t have long to get it into shape you want and prints. Play-doe won’t dry as quickly as the glaze does

    Play dough will not give the very fine wrinkle details. Only glazing compound will do that. The glazing compound does not have to dry before pouring the plaster of Paris on to it. I have not found glazing compound to dry fast at all. It’s a bit oily so it shouldn’t dry fast.

  • @renebaatenburg4048

    @renebaatenburg4048

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes. It’s like a putty. You can knead it again after the dried plaster mold has been removed from the compound. It does take awhile for the plaster to set completely. I would like something other than plaster of Paris. It can break if dropped.

    I've done a few dog prints... The glaze is very oily so it won't stick on the dog at all. I would make sure you dip your furry friends paw in soapy water following the impression to make sure they dont lick their paw after.

    2 cups flour (for a gluten-free playdough, use rice flour) 1 cup salt 2 1/2 tsp cream of tartar (this is a powder and can be found in the spices section at your grocery store) 1 tbsp vegetable oil 2 cups water In a saucepan, combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the consistency of playdough (roughly 5 mins). Divide dough into as many parts as desired to make separate colors. Use food coloring to color each portion of dough (just a few drops). Store in air-tight containers and it will last for years.
