It’s incredible that you do this and, as a mom who lost a child, this means a lot to me. As an aside, it still surprises me that not many people remember how very dangerous whooping cough can be, I’m in my 30’s and very nearly died from it as an infant. I was confined to the infectious disease ward of the children’s hospital, this wasn’t all that long ago!

Thank you! I had whooping cough and the croup when I was 5. I was lucky to survive being hooked up to all sorts a ventilators. I completely understand what you went through. We are the lucky ones.

When I had it it was 1957 and they didn't put children in hospital for it in those days. I had to stay at home and my mother looked after me the best she could. 😕

I heard a mention of it within the last few years, but that was about it. The last i'd heard any regular mention of it-no disrespect intended-was after the debut of the first-ever release of STAR WARS, when a commercial featuring C-3Po and R2-D2 aired for awareness. Surely it's out there, and I pray for increased awareness, treatment And Survival rates.

I am 49 and I had whopping cough and double Pneumonia when I was 4, and I was vaccinated. (I guess I was already infected when I was vaccinated) I remember the cough so clearly, gasping for air. I was hospitalized and in an oxygen tent (don't know if they use that anymore). Modern medicine really is a miracle. That poor family, so devastating.

My grandmother had a baby brother die of this back in the 40s. She was older and had it as well but survived. I chose to get the whooping cough vaccine after my 2nd daughter as it was going around horribly that year. Poor baby...I can't imagine. My grandma always has a sadness in her eyes as she talks about her baby brother...❤

❤️ Such a beautiful act of love this is! My Mom instilled in me the importance of taking care of our loved one’s graves, and now we take care of hers with as much love as she showed all her life. My parents, two siblings and my son are all very close together in the cemetery. Btw, my son was delivered stillborn 90 years to the day after baby Clyde passed away 😔💐👼🏼

Had whooping cough as a four year old. It changed by cough sound forever and I survived but other kids died. Around 1948. When I had my kids and they were getting their immunizations I was forever grateful they wouldn’t get it, along with many other diseases. That people choose not to get immunizations for their kids simply blows my mind. Wish I could transport them back to a time when the fear was real because everyone knew families who had a Clyde or who ended up in an iron lung because of polio.

Imagine having to see your child go through that and have nothing you can do to help them? ESP back then. There was literally nothing to do. How horrible that must have been. As a mother, this struck a different nerve for me. Poor baby. And my heart goes out to his mother. Watching your child endure that and feel helpless is one of the worst feelings.

What a sad story 😢 I had whooping cough as a child, although it seems like a 100 years ago now I still remember how terrifying it feels when you can't catch your breath. 🫁 I was only 3 years old and according to my doctor shouldn't have survived as I had it so bad. My mother said she was terrified too. It's scary to think that it's still around to this day. 😞
