Baby Chicks Are Here | Chicken Coop Retrofit

Baby chicks are here! That means it's time to build the coop. We used a 10 x 10 section of the old cabin to make a temporary coop out of scrap and leftover lumber.
Thank you for following our journey!

Your priorities are absolutely spot on...shelter, water, food. I am so impressed by your planning and execution. Impressed by how the Chicken Coop came together do quickly and with great functionality. I do think later you will wish you had placed the egg laying boxes a little higher. You guys are definitely members of the "we don't mess around brigade" You make good things happen!

The abandoned log cabin makes a great shelter for them! In the near future, we plan to build a chicken house for the flock. We are looking forward to having our own chicken eggs again since we had to leave our most recent flock of chickens behind in Pennsylvania when we moved north. Thank you for watching! 🙂

Are you going to do a Q and A about your background, what made you move to Alaska and how you prepared for it, etc.?

Thank you! It's been working out really well. We are anxious to eventually build them a nicer coup so we can take down the old cabin.

Why chicken boxes on the cold floor? Especially when you said the floor of old cabin is not insulated. Happy to see the old cabin repurposed! Thats so cool!

We are hoping the coop is very temporary! We are really pressed for time this year trying to get ourselves established here.

We went with NOVA-gens. They are a newer breed, I think. They are a Rhode Island Red/white leg horn cross breed. They are supposed to be the best egg layers you can get!

I think when people find your channel it will catch fire. The name of your channel is very close to another channel which is not nearly as dynamic or interesting...just saying.

Thank you for the kind words again! We did not realize there were as many alaskan youtube creators until recently when we received an email naming them all, and there are 92 total. We only knew of 5 of them. This niche may be very diluted with content, but that's ok. We are mainly doing this for fun and to keep our family and friends up to date on what we are up to so far away. We are glad that others such as your self are enjoying the journey with us ! 😊
