Baby bluebirds recused from ants in the box
This is the second nesting in this box this season. I didn’t clean it out after the first babies fledged. I’m not sure if the ants were already in the box when this new nest was built on top of it or they came after. At any rate the video doesn’t show just how bad the ants were. I will clean it out this time for sure and I’ll keep the nest.

I filmed this a couple of days ago but didn’t want to release it until I was sure the birds were doing well. They are. The parents bring food all day long. The ants have not come back. For whatever reason the sparrows are still hanging around so I’ll keep checking on the bluebirds.
I learned that blowfly maggots can infest a Bluebird nestbox, but now, I see that apparently, ants are a concern as well, and diatomaceous earth solves both problems, so I'm going to have to get some to use in my nest boxes as a preventative measure once the nest is completed. There's always something to learn from watching others in their endeavors.

You’re 100% right in that last sentence. I use food grade diatomaceous earth on the floor of my chicken coop to keep them lice free.
You're just an amazing person to go out and help the bluebirds! I'm sure your efforts will end up successfully with a bluebird family hanging around. 🐦

Thank you. It felt good to help them.
Larry, its great that your taking care of them. My only suggestion would be to put box on a metal pole with a 8'x60" predator guard underneath the box. The way its set up right now predators such as snakes, raccoons, etc can get access to them due to fence and wooden pole

Thanks Randy, you’re exactly right and I’m working towards fixing all my boxes to be more predator proof.
Very kind thing to do for these babies
