Be sure to know your local laws about taking wildlife into captivity. There are some strict laws down there about that sort of thing depending on what state you're in.

Thank you TC. I know when the babies are in the new home, you have no control. Would you recommend sticking with a tub for a few weeks (months?) until they can be moved into a more permanent, larger enclosure? I really want to do this right. I sort of have information overload and have ended up confusing the shit out of myself.... it's a nurse thing. I over think. I've never used heat tape. Can you put that on a dimmer?

  • @ReptileMountainTV

ReptileMountain.TV My enclosure is 42"x 24"x 19" high. I ask the guy who builds them to make it so I can put 3" deep substrate so my skink can burrow. I'm planning on cypress substrate. I think a tub placed into the large enclosure would be easier than trying to create multiple micro environments. The multiple temperature gradients would be tough to do in the larger enclosure. I'm picking it up this weekend so I can play around with the temps and see how it will all work out. I've never used heat tape. I want to try that under some slate. Where do you get the tape? I'm going to check out Home Depot or Lowes and see what they have. It should be a busy weekend

You could probably use an under tank heater instead of heat tape (basically the same thing). If your baby is outgoing you might be fine as is. Each critter is different. I have one baby i have to lull out of the hide and out in front of food. It eats great once i do. Lol. The rest come running. Lol

ReptileMountain.TV They are all so cute. I'm getting very excited to become a new skink Mom. So, if I'm hearing correctly, ( or rather, reading). I could use an UTH under a slate tile for a basking rock? I have the dimmer and thermostats. I think I have an UTH I'm not using since I moved my Ball into a nicer enclosure.

  • @ReptileMountainTV

Yes a 30 long should work fine for a few months. Make certain they can find the water and heat without having to cross a wide open space. They are shy when young and need lots of places to hide and feel secure. I feed babies every day. www.reptilemountain.com/husbandry

Michelle Loves animals Well when you first get a bearded dragon, it’s not really gonna like you. It will take time to get used to you. Once it does it will also ‘tolerate’ you. Most of the time they just stand still. To be honest lizards don’t do much. But they are still great lizards. They have more complex diets tho. You can’t just give them some dog food with veggies. I think a BTS would be better.
