My baby was born 6 weeks prematurely and is suffering from reflux. We filmed this video in the morning because she struggles most in the evenings and it wouldn’t work to film while she cries like crazy. The mornings are easiest for her body which is why she does so well here. The main thing we do to help her is hold her upright for roughly 30 minutes after each feeding. We also give her breastmilk mixed with rice cereal in bottles at night because it’s easier for her to keep the heavier milk down. She also sleeps on an elevated bed. If you have suggestions for how to care for a newborn with reflux please leave a comment below. I would love to hear from you. ❤️

A top tip someone gave me for when your baby is crying and no matter what you do you can’t console them, as you’re holding them and trying to sooth them, pop some headphone in and listen to some music (you not the baby), something calming but loud enough to block out the crying. It will give you some head space, because sometimes the constant crying can be so hard. If you can get yourself some headspace, you can concentrate on holding and comforting your baba. Your baby will sense you becoming more calm.

I’m currently dealing with a baby that I think has minor reflux, and after looking for as much advice as I can get, it just seems like there’s nothing to do other than try to keep them upright as you said. It’d be nice to see that pillow you mentioned. I’ve seen ads online for stomach sleeper pillows, but I’m not sure if that’s worthwhile. I read somewhere that keeping the baby on its left side is slightly better for reflux, but upright is best. Also saw some videos talking about a feeding position on the lap elevated. Need to just be patient. It’ll eventually go away.

I also had a baby with horrible reflux. It turns out he had a laryngeal cleft and was silently aspirating. I'm sure you are doing everything you've been told by her doctors and you are doing amazing! But, watching her after she was fed reminds me so much of my son, plus the coughing she did and drop in HR after being fed. I just wanted to put that out there because no doctor has mentioned it to me. I had to figure it out on my own. Again, you are an amazing mom and your husband is an amazing dad. I'm not trying to be a keyboard doctor lol just an experienced mom of a baby with extra needs.

Beautiful baby! I know the reflux struggle. Here some stuff called Infacol helped a bit. Also a special pillow for underneath the matras to help elevate our daugther. Keeping her upright a lot. 30 minutes did not cut it here. We put her in a sling a lot! It basically got better when she was able to sit nu herself (not put in a sitting position by is) and that was around 8/9 months.

We suction some out of her mouth and or nose when we hear her being gurgly or she looks super uncomfortable. She also had a TE fistula/Esophageal atresia which she had to have surgery to fix. She is currently being fed through a gtube due to her surgery. She is home now and was not sent home on oxygen/heart rate monitors but still has reflux. Some days are worse then others.

An IBCLC told me that a tongue tie could cause reflux and even painful gas. Tongue ties can cause issues later on as well, even when they seem so minor and not to be causing problems. An ENT to could clip it or a pediatric dentist can revise with a laser. Both very quick easy procedures!

First time mom and I currently have a one month old who don’t just spit up but throws up so much! It’s so exhausting but glad I’m able to figure out a routine. :/ His pediatrician says it’s normal but I know it’s not. He throws up all my breastmilk he eats, ive tried several formulas with no luck. I’m going to try speaking to his pediatrician again. My son pretty much spits up how yours did lol, sometimes even farther out or more...

I needed this so much. My baby is almost 5 weeks old and was 6 weeks premature. I was doing a lot of these things without realizing it, glad to know that I might be doing some things right.

It sounds as though she is having less trouble with the reflux in the earlier part of the day because of the rice cereal that you are mixing with the late and middle-of-the-night feedings. So, her intake has been staying down with the extra food in it. Whereas, during the daytime it is just the breast milk with no formula or cereal. She does still look like a newborn. Better to give her boosted food than to have to give her meds to fix the problem, because it is painful. There are massage videos on KZread people can refer to so they massage the belly in the correct direction to head the gas out of the intestines and not back up into them. It makes sense not to add so much formula or cereal that it makes her constipated, which is painful for them, too. Back and forth movement often helps more than up and down motions to prevent vomiting. At times, bathing them and changing them before feeding can also help relax them and make them comfy rather than their stiffening from the hunger. That has to encourage food retention.

Tongue ties cause reflux because the baby can't swallow properly. I would definitely get her into a pediatric dentist for a proper evaluation and laser revision. Then get her seen by a chiro for cranio sacral. I think you'll see such improvement! :)

How long did it take for your girl to grow out of it? It’s one thing for her to spit up all the time. I can deal with that. But like your girl, she’s choking and it’s scary. She gets all rigid, turns red, eyes wide and stops breathing for 10-15 seconds sometimes. Then after she can breathe again she lets out a big cry. We’ve been to doctors and GI and it feels like no one can help us.

A little tip: put a hairband/bubble on your wrist, then every time you nurse you move the bubble to the side you just nursed on. In those first newborn months with the frequent feeding it is very helpful to have a easy way to remember which side you last fed on

I used to wear an elastic hairband on my wrist to remember which breast to breastfeed from next. I would wear it on my right hand, when I was supposed to breastfeed from the right and switched after I finished. It helped a lot when my bub was a newborn and would nurse soo much so my breasts wouldn't really get super full or hard.

That looks like a massive baby given that it isn’t even full term yet. It’s remarkable how much bigger it got than a new born due to being on formula instead of in the womb.

Hinging there it will pass. It is hard but things will get better with time
