Nanak
Qoum Ne Pegham-e-Gautam Ki Zara Parwa Na Ki
Qadar Na Pehchani Na Apne Gohar-e-Yak Dana Ki
The nation could not care less about Gautama’s message-
It did not know the price of its unique pearl!
Ah! Bad-Qismat Rahe Azwaz-e-Haq Se Be Khabar
Ghafil Apne Phal Ki Sheerini Se Hota Hai Shajar
Poor wretches! They never heard the voice of truth:
A tree does not know how sweet its fruit is.
Ashakara Uss Ne Kiya Jo Zindagi Ka Raaz Tha
Hind Ko Lekin Khayali Falsafe Par Naaz Tha
What he revealed was the secret of existence,
But Hind was proud of its fancies;
Shama-e-Haq Se Jo Munawwar Ho Ye Woh Mehfil Na Thi
Barish-e-Rehmat Huwi Lekin Zameen Qabil Na Thi
It was not an assembly‐hall to be lit up by the lamp of truth;
The rain of mercy fell, but the land was barren.
Aah! Shudar Ke Liye Hindustan Ghum Khana Hai
Dard-e-Insani Se Iss Basti Dil Begana Gai
Alas, for the shudra Hind is a house of sorrow,
This land is blind to the sufferings of man.
Barhman Sarshar Hai Ab Tak Mai-e-Pindar Mein
Shama-e-Gautam Jal Rahi Hai Mehfil-e-Aghyar Mein
The Brahmin is still drunk with the wine of pride,
In the assembly‐halls of foreigners burns Gautama’s lamp.
Butkada Phir Baad Muddat Ke Magar Roshan Huwa
Noor-e-Ibraheem Se Azar Ka Ghar Roshan Huwa
But, ages later, the house of idols was lit up again-
Azar’s house was lit up by Abraham!
Phir Uthi Akhir Sada Touheed Ki Punjab Se
Hind Ko Ek Mard-e-Kamil Ne Jagaya Khawab Se
Again from the Punjab the call of monotheism arose:
A perfect man roused Hind from slumber.

It's great that Iqbal praised two legends in one poem Buddha and Baba Guru Nanak
Satnam Shri waheguru sahib ji
Alama Iqbal has established Guru Nanak ‘s Unique Contribution to Hindustan.
This is more about Gautama, the Buddha than Guru Nanak Dev - but really amazing to hear about Allama Iqbal's awareness and recognition of these two enlightened beings.

@@noblesingh yes it is, as noted in the title of the video. But the content has much more to do with Gautam Buddha. That was my point.

No it isn't so. Actually, he is establishing the plot in the previous verses. The poem as its title indicates is only dedicated to Guru Nanak Ji. He in a way is saying that even the Great Gautama couldn't do what, Guru ji has done. It is no disrespect to Gautama but the poetical measures allow such comparisons at times. It, however, is an indirect appreciation of Gautama as well but we can't say that, the poem has more about Gautama than Guru ji. His example was just taken that Brahmins (who primarily belong to Hinduism) couldn't recognize the teachings of Gautama and he is now foreign to them (Buddhism) but Guru Nanak ji was successfully able to take his mission which had its roots in Punjab

@@christophersamuel39 Splitting hairs here, but that's okay. Both of them were crowning glories and the influence of the Buddha is global. And even in India, Buddhism dominated for many centuries until it eventually got displaced by Shankaracarya's version of Hinduism and later the Bhakti movement [which Guru Nanak is a part of and of course he tried to reconcile the conflict with orthodox Islam too.] But since you know a bit, I have to say, that Iqbal was an interesting poet for sure and perhaps a product of his times - particularly how he had a change of heart from universalism to Islamism [as can be seen in Tarana-e-milli where he says, Muslim hain ham, watan hai sara jahan hamara!] But anyway, history is history!

Wah Sikhism ka to Islam ka shat bohat ghara taloq ha, asa hi itna fake myth banay hova tha dono na phle ik dosra ka liya.
IQBAL PAGAL THA KABHI RAM KO EMAM E HIND KAHTHA HAI KABHI NANAK KA QASIDA PADTHA HAI. IQBAL KOI ROHANI SHAYER NAHIN THA YE CONFUSE THA.
