Find out more about the B2 First exam: camengli.sh/3oIFwff
Read examiner's comments: camengli.sh/3tz8Irm
Time allowed: 14 minutes per pair of candidates
Number of parts: 4
Marks: 20% total
You have to talk: with the examiner with the other candidate on your own
Part 1 (Interview)
What's in Part 1? Conversation with the examiner. The examiner asks questions and you may have to give information about your interests, studies, career, etc.
What do I have to practise? Giving information about yourself and expressing your opinion about various topics.
How long do I have to speak? 2 minutes
Part 2 (Long turn)
What's in Part 2? The examiner gives you two photographs and asks you to talk about them. You have to speak for 1 minute without interruption and the interlocutor then asks the other candidate to comment on your photographs for about 30 seconds.
The other candidate receives a different set of photographs and you have to listen and comment when they have finished speaking. The question you have to answer about your photographs is written at the top of the page to remind you what you should talk about.
What do I have to practise? Talking on your own about something: comparing, describing, expressing opinions, speculating.
How long do I have to speak? 1 minute per candidate
Part 3 (Collaborative task)
What's in Part 3? Conversation with the other candidate. The examiner gives you some material and a task to do. You have to talk with the other candidate and make a decision.
What do I have to practise? Exchanging ideas, expressing and justifying opinions, agreeing and/or disagreeing, suggesting, speculating, evaluating, reaching a decision through negotiation, etc.
How long do we have to speak? 3 minutes (a 2-minute discussion followed by a 1-minute decision-making task)
Part 4 (Discussion)
What's in Part 4? Further discussion with the other candidate, guided by questions from the examiner, about the topics or issues raised in the task in Part 3.
What do I have to practise? Expressing and justifying opinions, agreeing and/or disagreeing.
How long do we have to speak? 4 minutes
Cambridge English speaking tests take place with one or two other candidates, and two examiners. This makes your test more realistic and more reliable.

When I sat for the FCE my partner and I were given different options for a present, I think, and we agreed before we started talking that we were going to go through a few before choosing the one. And then the exam started and she went straight for the one we were supposed to choose last. It's been 6 years but I'm still annoyed that we had a plan and she made me change our whole loose script.

I took the exam on July 29 th and I passed it😁 I remember how worried I was when I was watching these videos. Honestly, the speaking part was not as stressful as I thought. It was unbelievable easy and satisfying. The examiners were welcoming and kind. I have never thought that it will be so easy. You can do it!
the problem with the speaking part is that you just have to make up the best situations for each question . but making things up about something you don't like to do is hard sometimes.like for example this question: "which garden would you prefer to spend time in?" like what would i like to spend my time in a garden in the first place? what am i supposed to do? watching ants, bugs? studying plants? sit down on the ground surrounded by flowers doing nothing? , this is the hardest part of the test , the imagination .
This is great! Because you can see an example of how it will be!

Having the exam in 2 hours...... DEAD NERVOUS!!!!!!!!!
It's interesting how the examiner refers to the Netherlands as Holland @13:30. Florine acknowledged the name Holland in her introduction but mostly used Netherlands throughout her exam. I also used to call it Holland but stopped at some point... after looking into it though, it seems the country has been called the Netherlands for quite some time. Honestly, it's a bit confusing as many articles tend to switch between the two names but seeminly refer to the same country. A great exam anyway. I appreciate that the examiner's tone is so soothing! XD Good luck to all you lovely ESL learners out there!
@charliecharlie99
2 жыл бұрын
Yes. "The Netherlands" refers to the whole country while "Holland" technically only refers to two of the provinces (I believe). HOWEVER, "Holland" is the term that has been used for a very long time in English to refer to the country as a whole. Only now is the term "the Netherlands" starting to become more common. So as you say, you will hear them used interchangeably in conversation to refer to the country as whole.
