B.B. King is the greatest living exponent of the blues and considered by many to be the most influential guitarist of the latter part of the 20th century. His career dates back to the late forties and despite now being in his eighties he remains a vibrant and charismatic live performer. B.B. King has been a frequent visitor to the Montreux festival, appearing nearly 20 times, so choosing one performance was no easy task. This 1993 concert will surely rank as one of his finest at any venue. With a superb backing band and a great set list its a must for any blues fan.
The thrill is gone
The thrill is gone away
The thrill is gone baby
The thrill is gone away
You know you done me wrong baby
And you'll be sorry someday
The thrill is gone
It's gone away from me
The thrill is gone baby
The thrill is gone away from me
Although, I'll still live on
But so lonely I'll be
The thrill is gone
It's gone away for good
The thrill is gone baby
It's gone away for good
Someday I know I'll be open armed baby
Just like I know a good man should
You know I'm free, free now baby
I'm free from your spell
Oh I'm free, free, free now
I'm free from your spell
And now that it's all over
All I can do is wish you well

Not crazy. It's BB King. But yeah I feel you. There are literally blues joints around the country dedicated to this dude. One of the greatest, if not the greatest, blues men of all time.

Here's a great tale about a great man. I met BB King in an airport lounge when I was about eight (thirty+ yrs ago now!) in Sydney, Aus. He just rocked up to the viewing window while I was waiting for my aunt's plane to land. He must have been awaiting his baggage or something. Any rate, he just started chatting to me and he asked me if I played any instruments. I told him I had just started playing guitar. He got really excited, and told me he played "a bit" himself and said I should listen to and learn the blues above all else. I'll always remember, he told me where he was from, in the USA, the blues was the "start of it all". Then he gave me a plectrum and said it was a special plectrum just for blues players. About that point, I recall my dad coming up and he just started chatting with my dad, who of course recognised him. They had a good yarn, we all took a photo together (which my parents still have in an album somewhere) and then he very politely took his leave and wished us well. Such a humble man. Dad told me all about him on the way home and I immediately started learning about the blues and never looked back. Over the years, I would go on to watch him perform live several times though we never met in person again. RIP big man.

@@SinisterAnimationS I know huh? I remember it was really quiet at the airport at the time because there was a major pilots' strike going on. There were only a few flights all day. I think that's why he was able to move around freely without media in his face etc. His whole crew was milling around and they were supporting U2, so I also saw Bono walk past. I didn't recognise BB at the time, but geez he was nice to me and I get the feeling he enjoyed being anonymous for a change. I can't tell you much of what he and dad talked about (the memory has faded a bit) but I remember dad was super impressed with how "laid back" and friendly BB was and it felt like they chatted for a good ten-fifteen minutes. And we didn't even approach him - he approached me. What a legend!

@@fredbloggs8369 What a wonderful story and experience. My son was backstage at the Blues Festival in Byron Bay some few years ago and he became aware of and nodded to a man standing next to him also watching performers from the edge of stage. It was BB King. He listened with him and said 'They make a good sound'... my son was so chuffed to have a few words with this fantastic man. RIP BB

R.I.P You damn legend you. You were blessed with a gift that I can only dream of having. You're one of the absolute ONLY reasons why I even picked up guitar. I'll never forget when I saw you live at the Blues Festival in San Jose, CA back in 1996! I was only `13 years old but it was the first concert I'd ever gone to and when I saw you make that guitar scream, I just immediately thought to myself, "Wow I have to learn how to play a guitar"! and I'll never regret that day in my life, because learning an instrument changed my life. I feel like I owe you so much, and in your honor soon I'll be writing a tribute song just for you. Your life is a true gift and the entire world will miss you. From one musician to another, much respect King. Thankyou for the years of inspiring music. You were such a humble man, It was never about the money or fame to you, you always did it just because you solely LOVED music. That to me is a true musician in my book. Say hello to everyone in heaven for me. R.I.P, Love, and Respect from Joshua Rath. Thankyou for making me the musician I am today. Farewell King.

You don't need a million notes to bring out the emotions and make the guitar cry. Hail the King.

B.B. King, not only an innovator of the Blues but a pioneer of one of the most important parts of playing any instrument - feel. His guitar was a part of him and it's strange to think they will never be played the same way again.

James Bell Good job he had 'feel'; when you only play two notes most of the time you need trailer loads of 'feel'. I went to see him on his farewell tour at Bournmouth and. mostly, he played the same two notes then and not a chord in sight. I know blues is more about feel than technical wizzardry but a broader range with 'feel' has to be more moving. Gary Moore supported him - he had just as much 'feel' but he played a wider range of notes.

We went to BB' Kings night club in Memphis. What a fantastic concert and the food was outstanding.... we met BB and enjoyed him playing with his guys. That was a huge honor. The lights were beautiful on the clubs on both sides of that strip.....and then.......... .we got mugged a block away going to our car! Yikes! Scarry....he had what looked like a gun in his jacket pointed at us. Perfect ending to a great evening!! Lol. 🎵🎸🎷🎶
