Chipping? The B29 came in bare aluminium only, no paint to chip. Stains maybe, but they were expensive birds so they'd be cleaned post ops. IIRC they cost the same as a navy cruiser.

@@davidharris733 playing with costs is a fun game, many documentaries like to get the absolutes thrown around to make a bang. No pun intended. I saw The World at War, was pretty good as documentaries go. The B-29 was developed to deliver the nukes from Manhattan Project. The total program cost was $3 billion (1945) which was the most expensive program of the war. The Manhattan Project, which developed Fat Man and Little Boy was only $2 billion. Sometimes landed with the propeller hanging loose. R-4360 engines were a mess to repair. 56 sparkplugs per engine. Caught 13 on fire just ground testing. The ground crew called me "Sparky". It's stunning the details, when I was a kid in the 60's we'd glue and that was it, there wasn't even this type of details or adding realistic paints and weathering. Incredible to watch. Thank you.
