Really useful explanation of how the process works for those of us that have never done it. Thank John!

Thanks John for yet another wonderful session and it is quite useful. However, i would like to know when copying file shares to Azure Data Box, whether the file metadata like created dates & modified dates will be retained or it will create the new timestamp on those file metadata. Do you have any thoughts around this? Thanks

Thanks. If target is Azure Files metadata is maintained but not possible for Blob (which has no mechanism to set).

Hi John, Great video, many thanks. I would be interested to see a deeper dive into some of the ways that the updates at source / deltas can be kept in sync, once the copy to azure data box been done. Typically a customers file server(s) will have updates happening all over the place (many departments/ many nested folders). So are you best to do some kind of analysis and restructure for hot cold data at source before copy to azure data box, use azure databox just for older/cold data shifting, or copy as much as you can and then use tools like robocopy (any others you can recommend/vendor specific tools). thanks again.

the method to sync would depend greatly on the type of data and the app accessing it. File servers are only type and ideally would use something like azure file sync to sync data (could prepopulate). for other types maybe data writes to both after deciding to start the replication or multiple data box passes as i talked about in video.

Hi John, One of our customer want to move Design file server to cloud, but each file size to 50 to 100mb, What will be the good possible solution to host these big size file on the cloud with very less latency??

I mean the file size is not big and if using smb today azure files or netapp files could provide depending on performance and security integration needed, eg ad. Latency is more about distance if using from on premises. The shortest path would be expressroute but you should test to see if latency can be met over internet for example. Lots of factors.

is it ok to use two regular data box? lets say I have 150 TB on premises and I don't want to go all the way up to heavy?
