This song is so good. Efendi's voice is so stromg l think. Azerbaijan this year really so strong. İf her performance will be great, Azerbaijan will be winner this year.

This song will be remembered when it is time to vote. Azerbaijan are one of my favourite countries in ESC. Too early to say if it will be in my Top 10.

The most beautiful song of Eurovision 2020

That's probably the most interesting song you could ever react to this year. While it all blends together well, I don't like those interrupting elements. Similar to Denmark's "Say Yes", it destroys my personal listening experience. But Azerbaijan can produce an amazing staging with this song so I will probably enjoy this as a piece of art, not as something I'll listen to regularly. I think this can either go top 5 or flop in the semi, just all depends on the staging and her love vocals.

yea thats interesting that you found the interrupting element jarring - I can see many people thinking that. Kind of like "Icebreaker" By Agnete, which I really liked but I know a lot of people found that too jarring.

@@ESCTom funnily enough I loved and still love Icebreaker. I think for many televoters who havened listened to it before, Cleopatra will sound like a hot mess - and not in a good way.

Thanks a lot Tom. It is going to be utterly different challenge on the stage than the video clip on desert. So I believe that is going to be a different story once it comes to the point to make a stage performance. But Azerbaijan definitely can cope with it. I believe that is going to be something special just like Chingiz did in ESC 2019. Despite the fact that she is not my favorite singer from the list of much more talented singers in Azerbaijan, but she has done a good Job and I can only wish her a Superb Luck because just a "good luck" isn't enough for a Semi final..Fingers Cross

yea i definitely think that the staging needs to be amazing like Chingiz's. I downloaded the song yesterday and the song itself doesnt feel as strong without the visuals. Azerbaijan have a great record for their staging though, so I expect there to be something cool again this year

I like the different elements in the song and that it was surprising. Not so keen on the word Cleopatra but apart from that it´s lovely to listen to.

Thank GOD Malta and Azerbaijan saved this QUALITY to drop on us at the last minute and save the closing weeks from the mediocrity. I cannot tell you how excited I personally am. I got two new top 10 songs after feelings bit shaky about having some great songs here. I pray for good staging to back this up.

Most of the countries don’t have a live version of the songs... it’s a strategy. You fell in love with the song even if live singing is not good. Hope I am wrong and they do it very well on the live show.

Azerbaijan always has great stages

Landed in my top 5 already. This song is very interesting with harmonizing of different styles of music in each part. Its structure is well thought. The vibe is very unique with combination of modern pop with ethnic Turkic sound. Her voice suits the so well. The breakdowns were awesome. I like this. Good luck.

I love the song but I have a hard time figuring out why _Namu Myōhō Renge Kyō_ specifically is in the song. I guess it makes some thematic sense in that it's about lessening negative karma and it refers to the Lotus Sutra and lotuses are also a big thing in Egypt, but these feel like forced connections... I just can't see the connection between a 13th century Buddhist chant and a 1st century BC Egyptian woman. Is the song trying to do some Occidentali's Karma type commentary? Or is it there just because it sounds cool? But then why _this_ chant specifically? Why does her inner voice say "glory to the law of the Lotus Sutra"? And does the "like Cleopara" refer to Cleopatra's soul also saying _Namu Myōhō Renge Kyō_ or does it just refer to her soul speaking to her in a similar way but not with specifically these words? I am confusion.

This song is all over the place, but in all the right places. Some nitpicking can be done, but why? It's a strong bop and it's very entertaining.

@@ESCTom Yeah it's not omgomg THIS MUST WIN or anything, but there are no songs at all this year that give me that vibe. It's a weird year anyway, quality is absolutely fantastic, but none of the fantastic songs are your average contemporary pop song. Best in that category is still Australia or maybe Malta and those songs are not exactly blowing me away.

I've listened to the leaked version of the song and I didn't like it, sounds forgettable and just too generic.. But then Miss Efendi dropped the music video and Azerbaijan suddenly becoming my winner for now.. MY GOD this song is literally made for her.

This is fabulous! It is so different, I love that they are not playing it safe! CleopatRRA is such a great hook, wish i could make that sound:)

Ok, Azerbaijan are not playing this year......loads of money thrown at this entry and to be fair, they have a definite return on their investment.....stunning performer, a song with an instant hook and staging potential which could be out of this world.........it makes the other "ethno-pop" tunes look/sound almost amateurish in comparison.......do I like this?.....absolutely!.....do i love this?.......no.......not yet!!.....but there is always room for relationship development, eh Tom! Certain qualifier.....and top10 beckons but I won't get carried away.......just yet!!👏👏👏👍

And then it lulls you into thinking it's going to be your average europop thing, and I went ah here we go but THEN comes the curse of Imhotep and it's BOOM again. And then the end with the Thriller choreography, BOOM BOOM. It's of course in my by now enormous top 5. But I think this is genuinely in my top 5

I think this has taken my number 1 from Ukraine. Absolutely love this, and depending on staging I think this could be the dance song of the year (against Greece and Serbia I think). Very impressed, as this kinda came out of no where for me. I’m sure others will tell you about the Senhit version so I’m gonna put my 2 cents in first. Apparently this was first given to Senhit for her song this year however she didn’t feel it was her so she said no. However she did put her voice to it which is on KZread now. I prefer Azerbaijan’s version but can you imagine this coming from San Marino? We wouldn’t know what hit us!

This song was growing on me, but I just hate that tempo change at the very end, ughh... I hope they change that, but they probably won't so.. Love the beginning, the chorus is ok, the ending is terrible imo. Maybe it will be better live. I hope so.

I find the chorus super weak. in hindsight i was SO distracted by the visuals. I find the rest of the song is pretty good

@@ESCTom I love the concept, it's just that there are so many things with this song that could go wrong live.. The reason I initially didn't like the tempo change at the end is because she doesn't strike me as a super strong vocalist.. Not like Severina 2006 who could sing Moja Stikla while jumping around more in three minutes than I do for an entire workout session... Sooo when the song escalates as much as it does at the end, there has got to be some dancing involved (at least I'm hoping that there will be) and I don't think it's gonna sound that good live tbh.. I just don't like to hear the artist panting into the microphone 😅 I like the song to escalate and climax of course, I just hope she's able to carry the song vocally as well, cus we'll probably have enough flat notes in the contest without her so 😂 Anyway, Afrika Paprika!

I do not dislike this song, but remember your reaction to Ireland Tom ?? Blackboard and boxes being ticked by a group of people ? Same with this one. Only difference is that the budget for this one was much much higher. And again well done for your entry Azerbaijan, but the not so subtle gay references in entries are just starting to sound stale. It all reeks of just another cheap vote fishing exercise.

Unpopular opinion, but Azerbaijan is one of my least favorite countries in Eurovision. I've never had a single song they sent in my personal top 15. Their entries are just so soulless, vapid, shallow and plastic and this one is no exception. In addition to that, they are notorious for bending the rules (to put it lightly), bribing jury members and delegations, having an aggressive marketing, being homophobic and being extremely sore losers. This will be around #30 for me this year. Not the worst song this year, but sure as hell nowhere near the best either.

I understand that we are being distracted by the cool visuals but the song itself sounds messy. Not something you'd put on replay without looking at these beautiful Egyptian inspired visuals. I'm not getting winner or top 5 vibe from this cause musically it's really mediocre and no matter how extra you'll get with the staging it'll still sound the same mediocrity. Good luck from Armenia, i have an opinion so please don't attack me :)

@CEO Yea its true about the visuals being a big distraction. they will be able to do that in the Eurovision as well, so its a tactic that can be replicated. I havent listened to the song on its own yet but will be interesting to see how it is without all those beautiful things happening

I basically agree with everything Konstantinos says: I thoroughly dislike this song. It's a messy load of kitsch, everything about this is just fake and contrived. I find this lgbtq+ reference in the lyrics very disturbing: Azerbaijan is a country from which gays flee to Russia, of all places, to find a better life. This just feels like a cheap trick to make us all clap along.

Lewi I’m from Azerbaijan and I, all my friends, acquaintances are LGBT supporters, it really depends on who you approach and with which background. In Russia the situation is a lot worse than here, at least here no one is killed merely for being gay or something. But generally you’re right, there are a lot of degenerates

I have worked for a human rights organisation focusing on LGBT rights, and sadly all the information we received on the situation in Azerbaijan was terrible. Including cases of Azeri gays fleeing to Moscow - I should say Moscow because of course it's not representative of all of Russia, where the situation in many places is indeed extremely dire. I know of course that there are people in Azerbaijan like you and your friends who are supportive, and it warms my heart that you are there and that you reply to my post!

I do not understand all this hype around this song. In my eyes, everything in this entry screams Kitsch. A pseudoethnic bop (because this is obviously not Egyptian music), with wannabe catchy rhythm, another Fuego-ish entry with an unbalanced mess of music elements, and with an oversexualised image (not as a statement like Maruv's performance, but as an effort to get more attention), and of course with gay-friendly lyrics - almost insulting for the real Cleopatra (I have no idea what source names her "straight, gay or in between"). I disagree with you, Tom, on the riskiness of this song. On the contrary, I find it an extremely safe entry for the general taste of the audience of Eurovision. The image of a sexy diva (major reference point for the gay audience to identify themselves with), no vocal requirements (for the crowd to sing with), almost non existing lyrics to make the song even easier for the masses, and a semi ethnic contemporary sound following the recipe of Fuego. I think there are much better songs that this in the first semi. But Eurovision is Eurovision, and I am afraid it may go through to the final.

lol its so interesting when you say that because I agree with a lot of things that you say, but I didnt realise it when i was watching the first time. so i think itll come down to when do viewers realise the things that you said, if ever. As long as its not during the performance, then Azerbaijan are safe. If the staging is wrong and people start to not be distracted and start realising the things youre saying, it could be in trouble.
