I recommend following both, though I tried to give more detail and help y'all watch out for certain pitfalls. Good luck and thanks for watching! I like that AYANEO gives us these options, and it's good for competition and the industry. Hopefully their customer service will match if anything goes wrong.

Other than the upgrade kit, you may also need:
1) Something to clean thermal paste. You can use isopropyl alcohol, or something like
www.amazon.com/ArctiClean-The...
2) A thin metal tool to open the side covers. AYA provides one in the original handheld box, though your success with that may vary.
3) (Needle-nosed) Pliers for grabbing and placing smaller elements

Followed this. My ayaneo still works! Thanks
Extremely useful, i followed every step from the video without any problem, thanks!
Thanks for the video, just did the upgrade myself and it's a night and day difference!

So glad it helped you out!
When I first started building PCs 20+ years ago, the trick I used for thermal paste is put a moderate amount on and then carefully smooth it out as evenly as possible on the CPU using a credit card. I have always gone by the notion that you can actually hurt CPU by overdoing it with spillover and this also takes care of the air gap issue you mentioned. Otherwise great video and thanks for walking through all the steps!
Thank you very much this was a perfect video for me. One thing i figured trying to get the the side clips off is that you push the metal pick right on the crack very firmly don't try to wedge it in sideways. If you go straight down it will pop right out. It's scary doing it but if you are lined up on the crease it will pop right out

good advice for others, thank you for commenting
Since the side covers are replaced anyway, you can easily remove the side covers by using a sharp knife to cut them in half. Start on one side starting at the crease from both half’s of the body covers, then lift them from the cut to pull off. I did put some layers of painters tape over it just to be safe, it takes quite a few cuts with a sharp knife.
Thanks, I followed the video, completed the upgrade kit and also replaced the battery. My unit won't start. Holding down the power and it's dead. Any suggestions? I opened it up and triple checked and everything seems fine. Didn't miss anything
This is crazy.. i would never 😅
Hi! Did I not notice or does the battery power not turn off before manipulations?
Do the newer 6800u versions of the Ayaneo 2 come with this already installed? Or do we have to get the heat dissipation upgrade along with the Ayaneo 2? Asking because I want to get the 2 over the 2s seeing as how the 6800u performs better at lower tdp than the 7840u.
Do not use the clear stickers when trying to get the plastic tabs off they just make it harder to get the tabs off.The plastic clear stickers make it harder to wedge the medal pick into the crack. Once you wedge the metal pick into the crack just shimmy it back and forth while pulling it towards you . Will take like muscle too
Awesome guide Too bad the provided paste dried up Luckily got a spare lying around
I applied a little IPA on the screw covers let it soak and they came off easy. One option would to be drill a small hole in the covers and pry from there to prevent marring the case.
To remove the side pieces I used a hair clip (Snap Hair Clips Metal), I managed to remove it without damaging the device. The hair clip is very thin and manages to get into the crevice. About that yellow tape. Can it be removed? Because there's a lot of old thermal paste underneath it.
@yu.niverse
Жыл бұрын
Yes it can be removed without issue; I left it in place out of laziness and the thermal paste is not conductive, so it doesn't necessarily hurt. I think it's supposed to help prevent paste from getting off the die onto the surface-mounted devices, but evidently it doesn't work!
Can I ask where you got your wrap n little grips on the back of your Geek?
@yu.niverse
8 ай бұрын
wrap is the middle piece of a SopiGuard Geek skin; the grips are from the Razer Universal Grip Tape pack
my idea after see you damaging your case , i came up with the idea to heat up the sidecovers with a heat gun to soften the double sided tape . maybe this will work better ?
@yu.niverse
6 ай бұрын
Yeah, I'd try the same thing if I knew there was tape there. Good tip. Make sure to keep the heat gun moving and far enough away that it doesn't melt the plastic. I used a hair dryer a lot to mold the skin around the case so as long as you keep the heat moving it shouldn't damage the device long term.
Well, this is a randok upload, but it's very informative 😂.
Awesome video! how was the temp difference before and after? would you say its worth the cost and time to do this?

sadly I dont have hard numbers/measurements 🫠 i know it definitely did not make things worse (and I do think at 15 W im able to play more quietly while on the same silent fan curve as before)
i have never had issues with the tabs but man i had so much issues with the heatsink screw stripping lol and i also took off the yellow tape
@yu.niverse

Yeah, I got lucky with the heatsink screws and that's why i don't recommend reusing screws in small devices
I don’t have this device I have a question why do you need to replace a defect that AYANEO should’ve replaced themselves? Because I was going to get this device and now I think God I didn’t
@kovspbru
4 ай бұрын
Nobody actually considered this as a defect. Watch reviews - everybody tested temps, and nobody deems them as "unacceptable", "too hot" etc. Yes, there was room for improvement, and aya basically gave away heatsinks from 2s model - to owners of model 2. I do not see anything wrong with it. For example I was too lazy to upgrade for all this time, for me temps are fine. By the way, If you are going to buy it - most certainly you are looking at ayaneo 2s, which already has better cooling, better RAM.
After the installation my screen is now black. Is there any solution for that?

The first boot will take a long time compared to normal. Did you perhaps unclip something and forgot to clip it back? This installation doesn't touch any of the display cables or anything. If you are able to take the device open again, look for anything that looks like it is dangling or unplugged. You can also ask for more detailed help on the Ayaneo discord.
I wouldn't put those new side covers back on. Especially if you plan to upgrade that 512GB SSD. Is the Geek 1S easier to open up then? I really dont want to have to pull off my triggers to reach some screws to open up the case.
@yu.niverse
Жыл бұрын
the new side covers with the notch are much easier to remove, but no I don't plan on upgrading the SSD. I'll burn that bridge when i get to it if i decide to do the 7840U upgrade. I'm also going to ask about a possible case swap to white for the 1s

@@yu.niverse after much debate I might just fold getting a ROG Ally from bestbuy with the 1yr protection ($70) to play it safe. Honestly I am really torn between all these handhelds and their different grips. The Geek 1s has so much to offer on paper but chance of dealing with returns overseas scares me.

@@tomoprime217good choice imo, I’ve heard its a quieter machine overall so no need for shenanigans like this
u should use jimmy tool from ifixit it open the side clean no damage
Can I pay you to do this for me ?
Please don't use giant metal pliers to remove the fan connector. And you definitely can use too much thermal paste. You want just enough to cover, ideally you'd smooth it out and not leave giant globs before attaching the heatsink
@yu.niverse
Жыл бұрын
Other youtubers (Gamer's Nexus I think) have done videos on thermal paste amount where it doesn't make much of a difference but not using enough, especially on a bare die, has a big effect.
@yu.niverse
Жыл бұрын
Agree with you on the pliers though; I'd rather people lay the fan on the side without unplugging it. I don't trust that connector even if you have small pliers.
Legend, thank you for this. Do you feel like it's made a difference?
