Ayaan Hirsi Ali Says Christianity Is SUPERIOR to Atheism? And That Dawkins Is Christian?

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is an ex-Muslim from Somalia. After leaving Islam, she became and atheist and joined forces with Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, and Sam Harris. More recently, however, in a panel discussion with Jordan Peterson, Ali declared that the Judeo-Christian concept of the transcendent is superior to atheism. Are atheists waking up?

Thank you Dave for addressing Islam and atheism, both are watered down, perversions of Christ's teaching, the fullness of Christianity, which is the Word of God. You and Nabeel and now many other ex-Muslims are doing an excellent job of opening the eyes of millions of people around the world, who have been afraid of taking on these subjects. May the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit guide you and may God speak through you, so that the words lead many to salvation. 🤗🙌🙏

Recent convert to Christianity from Atheism right here. I was a Richard Dawkins & Christopher Hitchens fanboy for almost ten years. I used to treat The God Delusion like my own Bible. I used to angrily rage against religion from a young age, but finally stopped ignoring the call of God and made the decision at the end of last year to convert. Now I'm set to be baptised and confirmed in a couple weeks. Everything feels brighter and better now than when I was an atheist, for example I finally feel like my life has purpose and meaning beyond simple material reality. God bless you all.

I got baptised this year Aug '23. 🔥😊 I can relate to what Ayaan is saying, I doubted myself too, my own judgement after remaining in Islam for so long. I looked at the God of Abraham through the lens of Islam. I had fatigue from religion. My advice is to anyone asking questions to pray and read the Gospels. Ask our Righteous Messiah to show you who He is, and He will. He'll come for every lamb that has strayed from the flock and lead you back. He is the Good Shepherd, our Rock and Redeemer. When you find him, though, this world is troubled, and you'll struggle in it. You'll find your burden lighter and that you're free. Prayers for the seekers. 🙏🏻

When I first found Jesus a few years ago, my prayer was, “God, there is no way you could screw up my life any worse than I do. Jesus, take the wheel.” Would I consider myself a Christian after that? Yes. Was my theology sound and would others consider me a Christian? No. But it was the first step in turning around and following Christ. So her identifying the positive results of a judeochristian world view? Not a problem to me. It’s just the first step in turning around and following the Lord.

I'm born atheist. My parents didn't care about religion, since my grandparents were the ones to abandon it during their politically revolutionary phase ("if you can help the vulnerable with communism, why have religions?") I remember that as a young kid I found the idea of someone watching and judging my every move was something creepy which limited my freedom and privacy, and that I was already a good person. Then I moved to a different city, happened to enter a Catholic school and learnt the basics of Christianity, which I respected, but was never really into it. Most of my classmates weren't either. I became a Deist for around 2 decades based solely on the Prime Mover argument. In my 30s I've been studying Theology and Religion, just as an extension of my hobby of reading History and Philosophy, and Science aswell, being a Scientist myself. I first read books by Richard Dawkins, Nietzsche, and many atheists. Now I've also explored all the major religions and their variations and denominations. Of all my reading, I was first convinced/attracted the most to Stoicism, Taoism and hard materialism. I own the Quran, Analects by Confucius, the writings of the Buddha, Book of Mormon, various philosophy books on Ethics, Aristotle, Spinoza, Camus, Kant... I feel lucky to live in a time where I can have easy access to so much material, and to so many youtubers discussing these topics. To me, the Quran feels like it was carefully designed to make you feel fear in order to control you. It has everything wrong with religion that Dawkins, me and my grandparents noticed long ago. And this year I found myself attending mass again, from my own volition this time.

@@neochris2 it's special pleading. Physics doesn't support it. It allows for many assumptions that can not be disproven. It doesn't say if the prime mover is the christian god, that's just an assumption. It moves the goalposts. The idea of a prime being outside of time doesn't make any logical sense because something that is timeless doesn't move because moving is fundamentally a temporal act.

  • @neochris2

@@jameslay1489 I think you'll agree that Physics, like every science, still ignores most of reality and changes all the time as it discovers more. It's a tool. It can support or reject an hypothesis if the experiments prove it right or wrong, but it can say nothing about an hypothesis when experiments are not (yet?) possible. An assumption that can not be disproven is not a weakness to the hypothesis, it is a weakness of our ability to perform experimentation. You are projecting our own limitations into the primal being. We agree that the idea of the prime mover does not imply that it is the Christian God, and that's precisely why I said I was a deist and not a Christian at the time. I do think the idea of a prime being outside of spacetime is actually very logical. Illogical would be to think that in the chain of cause and effect there is some effect which was created without a cause. If we are logically thinking about a plane of existence above spacetime, capable of starting/creating this chain; that is what we call the prime mover, even if the name may not be literally correct. It's just the name Aristotle used. Sure, the act of Creation of the universe was probably not a literal "movement", which as you say, requires time to already be present in order to happen, but it could be some other type of influence of a kind we can not know, and therefore can not deny. Logically, if our spacetime reality is contained inside the greater reality of the prime mover, it is not logical for me to assume the higher reality is "limited" by not having time, but that whatever nature that reality has, it must be less limiting than ours, not more. If they do not "move" in the sense we do, whatever they actually do is equally or less restrictive than our movements, *not more restrictive*. The nature of the prime mover, and the nature of whatever actions it performs, being unknowable to us does not harm the hypothesis of its existence. Yet in our world logically we still need a prime mover to explain the existence of the chain we live in. So it merely tells us that our science is not, and may never be, great enough to know God. Assumptions on how things work outside of our spacetime are also impossible for us to test. But since we infer from our reality a less restrictive reality above, who am I to say what God can or can not do? Logic itself could be different, and not require causes and effects like our universe does, allowing for self-creation, or God only knows what other expressions of power.

@jameslay1489 What on earth does physics have to do with a prime mover? You're using an irrelevant topic to ignore outright the argument. You do realize that if a prime mover does exist it would be what created the laws of physics in the first place right? 😅 the argument from contingency, argument from agency and the transcendental argument are all sound arguments untouched by atheist rhetoric. Maybe take time to research them and try to logically refute them without relying on fallacious reasoning please. BTW you stated that a prime mover is basically unfalsifiable but I would say to you that atheism is in the exact same boat by that logic so why be an atheist? Ah right special pleading and a desire not to have a prime mover. Got it.

I developed skeptical tendencies when I was very young as I had a very difficult first few early years and didn't understand why God would allow me to go through the things I had to go through very young. I did become a full fledged atheist even if I didn't know the word around the age of 7-8 and developed nihilistic tendencies very young. I was very angry and depressed for all of my adolescence and rejected and even hated God. I would argue with theists of all varieties and thought I was way smarter then them. About a year ago I felt this sudden urge to go to church and for the first time in my life I listened to people who understood Christ and Christianity much better than I did even having gone to a Catholic church for all of my youth and Catholic school from 4-18. I sat in Church and listened to my first sermon in 13 years and I wept sitting in the pew and it was the most transcendental experience I've ever had. Since then I've been much happier, much less quick to anger, much less judgmental, much more understanding and accepting. I am learning what sin actually is and how it impacts us, I'm learning to understand that Christ is the bridge towards eternal life, I'm learning that living like Christ is difficult and I fall short of it all the time, but I'm also learning that that is ok and that the fact I try each day is ok as well. I wouldn't have gone this path if it weren't for Christ or my listening to people espousing traditional values and pointing out the problems that secularism and atheistic belief systems have created. Christ is my king and my shepherd. God bless everybody and I hope people recognize their sin and how corrupted the devil has made them and shirks all that off for the salvation that Christ offers.

If we aren't expanding our insight into the Bible, and anything to do with life, and what exists, we're probably moving toward something more like a 'cult'. I think Jordan Peterson should be credited for this atheist movement toward Christianity. Since the beginning of his lectures at the university of Toronto you can see him actively struggle with his atheism (at the time) and start to formulate a new opinion about God. Of course the beauty of seeing this over the years only shows me how God works through honest seeking of Him. Peterson brought light in the traditions of the Abraham religions influence on societies and how that can’t be denied. See him publicly struggle with his position and seeing the slow transformation was literally inspiring to me and my Christian faith. He helped me become more faithful to God by looking at the scriptures differently than my normal readings. He opened my eyes through his expertises as a psychologist that gave me a better understanding how the scriptures work on people differently that I never would have known without seeing him actively work through the process of his take on scripture readings. Anyway, I just see God coming into these atheist lives and opening their eyes to concepts Peterson brought out in his journey. This is God working and it’s wonderful to see. Peace

I wanted to believe but couldn't make it work rationally in my head for about 4 years. I'm not entirely sure what finally made it click. I think it was partly the realization that the only thing that separates humans from animals I our belief in God. That made me realize that I'm nothing but a base animal without God. The feeling that came over me when I felt God's presence in my heart for the first time was like a ton of bricks being lifted off my brain.

Nietzsche is an objectivist. Just ask Ayn Rand. Another quote from him that people don't fully explore to it's conclusion - "There are no facts, only interpretations". This is true. We know it's true because we observe different people making the same mistakes through misinformation. To accept this means you accept that, although we are all individual subjective beings, our experiences have objective universal archetypal constants, and *those* are the truth. Not "facts", but a truth. One we may grasp at and know, through Christ.

Your comment on "the road cut" is extremely important. The "road cut" is where the Western World is today, it has cut the anchors that kept it tied to Judeo/Christian ethics/morality. The moral and ethical capital that was built up and invested in over the centuries is quickly being spent with no replenishment coming. Its running out fast since the atheist/secular has taken over all the educational institutions and they teach their ethics/morality. Kids going through these institutions have had "the road cut" completely and will imbue the new ethic/morals with 0 Judeo/Christian influence. But the whole "humans are basically good" mantra was all based upon the previous generations moral capital from Judeo/Christian ethics/morality. The "road cut" is perfect description of what has happened.

I am an atheist. I call myself "culturally Christian". I don't believe in God or in Christ as "God-made-flesh" or any such, but my entire morality system and worldview, is absolutely Christian based. The values I hold dear - humanism, secularism and individual freedoms and responsibilities, none of those would even make sense without a Christian background, and I fully admit it. Christianism is different from ANYTHING that has EVER existed. Before Christ, the only morality was "Might makes right". That was literally the morality of Rome, of the barbarians, of the Chinese, the Indians, the Africans, the Native Americans, the Mongols. That was the only moral system. Christianism changed that, and Christ "invented" individualism - salvation was, after all, individual. Everything good we have in the world today is due to Christianism, and it would be hipocritical for an atheist such as myself to deny that
