    2 suggestions: I suggest mobilizing one infantry in Karelia because leaving territories completely open to capture isn’t the greatest idea and it also prevents the Germans from blitzing into Archangel, which does mean they lose a tank but it also means that you delay the movement of your troops in Moscow. My other suggestion was to not just buy only infantry and maybe instead a couple of artillery, because once you lose your few tanks you basically have no attack power which ensures the Germans that taking Moscow will be slow but definite

    I agree about the artillery... 4 infantry 3 artillery is a better turn one buy in my opinion. But just so you know they can't blitz tanks to Archangel (on turn 1) because there's a factory in Karelia.

    I typically buy all infantry on the first turn, so i can build up on hit points. I’ll just buy tanks and artillery later. And fighters when the war goes my way

    The Germans cant blitz through Karelia to Archangel because there is one industrial complex in Karelia. In the Rule book says that tanks cant blits through a territory that contains industrial complex or AAA gun.

    i've created artillery aswell with russia just because when u attack with 8 infantery that 8 dices to roll on a 1 but when u have for eg 2 artillery and 5 infantery that 4 rolls on a -2 and 1 at 1 and is much better to contrattack, maybe not as massive on defense but to contraattack is the best because is cheap and effective

    Nice Video, really liked it. Looking forward to more videos :) Just a few questions: 1: Wouldn't it be better to send the russian AAA to West Russia for +1 HP and the chance to take down german fighters if they decide to attack? This would scare off Germany and you would also keep West Russia as an optimal transit zone for UK fighters. If they do attack and they lose a fighter in the process that makes it easier for UK/USA to build up an atlantic fleet. 2: When you move your 5 eastern infantry to the eastern front (Buryatia SSR??), will UK sink one of the Japanese transports? I wouldn't like the scenario where Russia instantly loses 5 infantry and Japan has a highway for their tank to blitz straight to the russian Capital. Imo, it is more worth to save the 5 infantry for midgame defending of Russia rather than trying to save 1 IPC early. 3: Not really a question but more a comment. I prefer to send my two infantry from Evenki National Okrug to Archangel since that puts you 1 move from either Karelia for a possible trade or to reinforce West Russia.

    +InViriconium You are probably right on 1), although in the next video I demonstrate how attacking West Russia is a horrendous idea for the Germans even if there is no AAA gun. For 2), yes the UK should sink the transport. I think even if the infantry are lost though, it isn't that big of a deal, as the Japanese have to devote significant resources to this, which drastically reduces pressure on India. If they are going strong for a kill russia strategy then it could be a problem, it depends on how well you know your opponent. For 3) That is a good idea if you plan on attacking Karelia, it can also leave them exposed as pickings though, due to the German moves I demonstrate in the next video.

    +InViriconium Actually I think what you said about moving the infantry to Archangel might actually be a better idea, I don't think they will really be vulnerable to German attack since Russia will go again before Germany, so if you are concerned about Karelia, it isn't a bad move. I was confused because I had already done Germany's moves, so it made that move look more vulnerable, but Germany isn't really in a position to hit that on turn 1.

    Have you thought about purchasing 2 Inf, 2 Arty and 1 Fighter on turn 1, then max infantry + 1 fighter turn 2 and then max infantry from there on out. With 4 fighters the Russians can create dead zones committing only infantry while still holding back their tanks to counter the big push. The 4 Russian fighters (along with UK/US fighters that make it to the Russian Front) can also set up a serious defensive backbone when combined with infantry. This seems to hold to turn 4 by which time a serious second front is opened by the UK/US.

    Couple of thoughts on this -first off stacking all the far east infantry on buryattia is a bad idea Japan can swoop in and it's pretty inconsequential towards there India timings as they can just transport there remaining units wherever. Next is you are really lacking counter attack power with your 8 infantry build you should mix in either 2 artillery or 2 tanks otherwise you really invite the axis to overwhelm you quickly. I know it seems backwards but that how it works.

    I have often found myself buying USA fleet in the pacific - to ease the squeeze on Russia from Japan. It forces Japan to purchase navy and less land based items, allowing Russia to focus on Germany and not have to worry about Japan sneaking through. What do you think?

  • @Charlemagne_III

    @Charlemagne_III

    6 жыл бұрын

    I don't think Japan can easily squeeze Russia without taking out Britain. A better defense of Russia would just be to shuttle troops directly there from Britain and the US. There's nothing wrong with spending in the pacific to slow down Japan, though, although it will require more skill and luck. The allies are in a really bad position in this game, so optimal play would probably be more Europe centric, since Japan is much faster in the pacific than the US is.

  • @Charlemagne_III

    @Charlemagne_III

    Everyone's meta is different, so if Japan is always attacking Russia in your games, you have to play differently; however, it is easier to deal with. Where does Japan build an IC? India is hard to hold if they don't try to take it, but if they don't, you need to be very aggressive.

    For gamers sake, I have to have a rebel allied pacific Navy, england and the US buying a boat every other turn, often it pays good $$, if luck holds I'll skimp Europe a few builds and the New Pacific fleet is built, Alaska to far east is a decent distraction from the south Pacific, General MacArthur appreciating the diversion.

  • @RationalOrc
    @RationalOrc4 жыл бұрын

    I would add that archangel is important too, UK and USA fighters can fly from england to archangel in 1 turn, so you can park 10 infantry and archangel and let your allies provide the rest of the defense there, this will keep germany from encircling moscow

    Let's suppose Russia attacks the German fleet in the Baltic Sea with 2 fighters: Can Germany use its submarines as casualties even if, according to rules, fighters cannot attack a submarine unless there's a destroyer to detect it? Can the submarines defend against the fighter attack?

  • @Charlemagne_III

    @Charlemagne_III

    Submarines can never hit air units and air units can only hit submarines if there is a friendly destroyer present. The hits would go directly to the transport and ignore the subs.

    It's mathematically impossible to defend Karelia with the odds in your favor. You could send every possible unit there, and Germany would still be able to attack with the odds in their favor, and then your whole army would be wiped out. Karelia is a trap for the Russians, so it is better to conserve your forces for defense that you can actually win.

    Hmmm, I maybe never played this version ? I know the very first one my family had at the dining room table back in the early 80's was the "original" one where you had everyone build up in Eastern Europe and Karelia, these huge stacks of infantry and finally have a decisive battle, etc. That version had any factory be able to produce as many units as you had money to buy. There were no limits based on territory-IPC value. Then I know the family eventually got another updated version. I looked at a list just now and this is how I think things went for us, or at least what I recall playing over my years with the game: 1.) Axis and Allies (1984) - by Milton Bradley "Gamemaster Series" was on the box cover. 2.) Axis and Allies Revised (2004) 3.) Axis and Allies 50th Anniversary Edition (2008) 4.) Axis and Allies 1941 (this quick version my uncle insists on me using on my bi-annual return trips - ugh) :-)
