Axial Knives SHIFT: I almost shift myself when I opened this.
Ойын-сауық
It’s hard to think of too many questions asked in knife groups more often than “Where can I get a good quality OTF cheap?” unless you count allllll the damned “which sharpener should I buy?” topics, but I digress…
This answers that age-old question. And for once, no dubious origin, they’re actually made in the US. So sit down, pop some popcorn and tell the strangers on the internet to shut their idiot mouths… because we are going to see if there really IS an alternative to a $300+ OTF that will actually satisfy us.
Big huge thanks to steel-capital.com for getting this out to me, go grab your Shift there. Or something else. I don’t care. It’s not my money.

The best thing about this knife is how clean it looks … If they gas stationed it up with eagle claws, inlays and glass breakers I would never give it a second look

HOW DARE YOU! -Anthony Marfione, probably
I have every Microtech model. I just purchased an Axial OTF. It has not once!!!!! Failed to deploy!!!! Not once!!! Every Microtech I own has failed at one time or another…lil lube usually fixes that. But Axial…has still not failed to deploy!!! Very impressive!!! I love my Axial OTF very much!!! Definitely going to purchase more!!!
I bought the teal version about three months ago and I can honestly say I carried that one more than I do any of my Heretic Otf’s‘s or my microtech OTFs, it hasn’t failed one time they are absolutely untouchable for that price range!!
What I love about the d/e blade on the axial is the fact that they left a flat spot that will allow high end sharpening systems to touch up the edge when needed. I have a deadlock and absolutely love it but the one downside I’ve found is that I can not sharpen that blade with my wicked edge. Informative video as always Jim! Thumbs up 👍
Hey Jim I just wanted you to know I greatly appreciate your opinions about knives I’ve learned a whole lot from you I’m super glad your making more videos I hope you are doing well your looking healthy for whatever it’s worth keep up the awesome content it’s greatly appreciated 😊
Have 2 of these and have had no issues whatsoever. Fires just as hard today as it did when I received it a year ago. Justin in customer Service is an Awesome dude to deal with! Sold my microtechs when they tried to have dealers pull the Axial off their shelves.

That is the reason I won't buy microtec as my first otf! Tony morphione became scambag and poser in last years!
I ordered one of these based on your review. Ordered from Steel Capital. I ordered the all black wharncliffe blade.Got it just after Labor Day. I’m very impressed with it. The packaging is great. Very impressed with that. The knife itself has a great feel. Comes very sharp. It has a great action. Smooth firing without a lot of effort. My ONLY gripe is that there’s a bit more play that causes it to rattle open and closed. Very minor thing as all OTFs have play and may rattle a bit. Overall, great knife and a great value. I’m very happy with it.
I'm Soo happy to see no glass breaker. No more tearing my hands up trying to use my pocket with the knife in it!
Wow, I was looking to get something new recently and after blowing some money on an engraved UTX-85 I was looking for something on the lower end. Plus considering my smaller collection, I think getting as many of a different brand in early would help me further down the line. Thank you very much for showing us this!
Looks like a great knife for the price. The design on the blade is so cool looking. Can't beat the blue color. Great knife. I think I need one. Thanks for the great review.
Jim you always deliver a thorough review!
Absolute stellar review sir! I kind of ran in to this nice the way you did sorta, Word of mouth and I was told they were made 100% in the United States so I took a chance and ordered one without seeing it in person and I was absolutely blown away, I have had mine for months and it has never failed one time, and that is pretty amazing but I agree with you Jim, a little bit more attitude baby and that could shoot them to the moon! Yes but it is definitely one of my main go to for EDC!!!
Good video Jim. I've been saying for a while if I get another OTF, it'd be an Axial. I'm really hoping they do some more variety like you said. I hope if we give them time they'll pick up on what we want.
You always give the info I am looking for ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾

Thank you brother. I try.
This is so cool to see what makes this cool. I was thinking if the switch and clip were another of the same color and the screws.
I have been running an Axial Gear Shift for about a year now, and I carry it more than my Microtech. And I got it for half the price of that Ultratech. And that was direct from Axial.
New kid in town is a quiet achiever. Great review & excellent suggestions too coming from someone with a great eye. Cowabunga mate.!
I bought a warncliffe, black blade, purple handle about a year ago. Really like it. The only kind of negative thing I'll say , is that the paint scratches very easily. Not really a big deal to me. S35VN, sharpens up really nicely.
I like mine. It’s just the basic black handle with the clip point but it’s been reliable. Really want Axial’s ‘raw’ colored version but the prices went up quite a bit. Good company so far
1st timer and subscribed. Enjoyed it Jim
👍👍. Coolest music ever in your vids Jim. Plus excellent reviews .
GREAT REVIEW ! Hoping they make them bigger.
Just bought his and hers Kershaw livewires 229 each excellent knives im excited to check these axials out
Alright I tell you what - I have Benchmades, bunch of Protechs, a ton of Microtechs, like a dozen Marfiones, 6 Latamas, 3 G&G Hawks, some other pretty cool oddballs - - and based on this video I just did some looking and found a Shift, 20CV DLC Clip Point in Blue for 214 from NW Knives (249 and I had some unredeemed reward points with them so it ended up being 214). At that ridiculous price I couldn't pass it up, like nothing to lose. So we'll see. Looking forward to adding it to my "Oddballs" collection segment. Love your work. Thanks for your great videos man. Keep 'em coming!

Love mine. I have the clip point, blue handle version. Such an amzing knife. It's in my EDC rotation even though my state frowns on carrying an auto over 1.99 inches. I can legally own it but I'm not supposed to carry it. Don't care. As long as I'm not sitting in the lunch room waving it around like a maniac, nobody will even notice that I have an OTF. Axial's customer service is amazing. I've spoken with them several times. Far better service than Microtech
28:18 this is actually the reason I went with the Axial over getting another Microtech. I prefer the beautiful, simplicity of the design and am so thankful they DID NOT add some stupid, gaudy, gimmicky, design elements, to attract people to buy it. I am by no means saying you are wrong within your point made however, I am happy they made it simple. Great video as always Cheers
Ive been wanting to get my hands on one of these for a while now I've never owned a good otf other then a tiny utx 70 and that was like a fancy nail cleaner 🤣 but I figured I might as well make a comment and help with this algorithm love seeing your videos

I carry a OTF every day. And cut everything with it. And carry in such a unique way, no one would ever think. I would and have considered the Axial Shift.
Awesome opinions and couldn't agree more!
Awesome 👏 gonna grab one for an every day carry. Get nervous carrying my combat troodon…650 is a lot to worry about (New Mexico otfs are illegal) I like Microtechs because as long as u take care of em you can resell it at a really good price…like -$20
I just my axial otf and I think it’s better than microtech it feel good and it fires so much smoother my microtech is hard to deploy even with oil. The axial otf is perfect. The axial knife is perfect all around I have issues. My axial has not left my pocket for weeks and I have 250 different knives lol. And yes it has a lifetime which is awsome especially for the price tag.
Good review Jim nice solid knife

The three "millings" on bladeside ARE functional: allows for blood-flow.

I had a 80$ cobra tech otf knife I got from a large gun store near me. Had a limited lifetime warranty and was by far way better than the microtech I had a few years ago😉

It’s easy to offer a lifetime warranty when the knife cost the “brand” $30 to have made for them and have their logo put on it. Cobratec knives are absolute trash and most people already know what they really are. But somehow, they still show new customers all the time. Mostly at gun shows.
Skywalker, fat dragon design bye nimoknives with d2 is my every day carry otf also have one in cpm s35vn (not a every day carry) and I'm in love 89$ for the d2 and I paid 225$ for the s35vn. I promise you won't be disappointed

I’ve had friends that did bad things and I can respect Standing with them. If you personally are close with someone and you find out they did something crazy it’s not easy. I do wish you wouldn’t disparage Brian for his opinion though. It’s obviously clear he’s right in the Hinderer case. That said I get it if you personally don’t like him. I applaud you knife reviews. I would like to buy one but can’t - not sure if they are still in business or not? Not a big deal, I love my Microtech’s more than any other knives I own but would like to have one example of Microtech’s competitors.
Well, what can I say after this video:. R. I. P. microtech alomg with tony morphione. I am so glad I didn't ordered microtech.. Axial will be my next knife and my very first otf.
Less than a year after this video, the Steel Capital link appears not to work, or is shut down. Just FYI
I was thinking, There is NO way I am spending $250.00 for one pocket knife then, You pulled out the $1,200.00 dollar Deadlock model C by Hawk knife Designs & it put things in perspective! Maybe 10-20 years from now as more companies compete (not considering inflation) but, maybe then I can afford to spend $1,200.00 on the best otf knife. Until then, I have my side folder & my enumerated, Constitutionally protected 2a right even though the uniparty keeps dwindling our Rights. The slits in the blue Axial $250. Knife might be bloodlets? I've always been into knives, moreso when I was a child & I still purchase ones I like & that Axial is looking better & better!
I was actually interested to get one of these and i checked out DLT trading, they were off the site, and i contacted CS why they weren’t on the site anymore and they said, that Axial is going through some legal trouble. If that was true, who is suing Axial, and for what reason. I feel like the design on the Axial is so generic, and plain, that yes, it could look like another companies OFT, now, that’s like saying a company owns the rights to a drop point blade, its just too generic and simple for any company to say they “ own the rights” to it.
@JimSkeltonKnives
Жыл бұрын
Hmmm, that’s interesting. Yes, the overall design is somewhat close, but not close enough IMO. I’ve always been very vocal about my distaste for clones/ripoffs, so if I felt it was too close, I wouldn’t have even put it under my lens.

So if an OTF is not for EDC tasks then what is the purpose?
@JimSkeltonKnives
Жыл бұрын
EDC means different things to different people, but generally you want a blade profile that will lend itself well to all-around cutting tasks, to cut any and everything. Something with a nice belly for slicing generally. Also having a locking blade is a strong preference for most. And something that won’t stop functioning if a little pocket lint or dust/dirt/debris gets inside. An OTF can easily fail with even a small amount of crap inside. And also speaking in general terms, an EDC “should” be legal everywhere, or most places. Automatics are illegal to own in a few states, illegal to carry in even more, and some just have goofy restrictions like blade length. A standard edc folder or fixed blade is generally easier to buy and own.
Their site has them at $285

Heretic still takes the cake for production OTFs imo. The extra touches & upgrades are worth the price for me, I love the more exotic and unique materials they use on limited and custom models as well. Their Bowie blades are particularly great. Hit x to doubt.
The whole concept of having autos made in China and assembled in the US is to avoid running afoul of the Switchblade Act, which prohibits importing automatic knives except in very specific circumstances (mainly government procurement). That’s what Spyderco got in trouble for with Customs, leading to the “restricted” classification in their catalog.
