Axial AX24 - First Five Upgrades for BIG Performance GAINS!!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In this video I go over my first five mods for the Axial AX24 XC-1! The primary goal of these initial upgrades is to lower the center of gravity, improve stability and climbing, and improve steering strength and precision. I also throw in a couple of bonus mods to further boost performance. The full parts list with links to the products is in the description below!

Hey Adam, I want to say thank you for all your videos. I got a bronco in April, ran it for about 2 minutes and shelved it as a decoration. Ran across your videos by accident and was blown away. I started building and am loving this little rig. Never thought I'd be running no shock springs. Amazon is now coming more for me than my girlfriend lol. Keep up the great work man!

Super cool looking with those wheels and Swamp King tires! I love mine so far and was looking for some great upgrades so Thanks for the video.
The mods made a big difference. I picked one up yesterday from my local. I haven't driven it yet, this will be my first 4ws rig. I did pull a few parts out of my bin to put on after the first run. I think the brass skid plate really help eliminate the bounce from the shocks, nice!!!🤘🤘🤘 For myself, the servos are the last thing I swap out. I run them till they break. On 7 of my 12 24's they still have the stockers. Yea there are stronger ones but the stock one work.

The main reason I saw was bc of the lack of upgraded parts it’s the same “stock” parts that crap out under very limited stress quickly(ie same servo, transmission, etc). Also the lack of mobility with the electronic layout and the lack of LCG. I don’t personally have one and I personally wouldn’t mind owning one the way it sits But allot of the Axial followers I think were expecting a bit more and they were let down. Im currently building a spare parts 4ws truck right now and I’m only in it $24. IMO I would love to try one before I say anything but everyone’s opinion will be different upon preference

@@CapeCrawlers I kinda wanna get one.. but I'm more into scale crawling rigs, Not much into comp crawler rigs.
thanks for breaking ground with some of these mods on this new platform. Your video alleviated my concerns about installing a bigger motor. I am just starting the mod journey for the AX myself, but am having trouble finding servo mounts. It looks like the AX servo mount spreads the upper links a little further apart than that on the SCX. Using an older SCX mount seems like it would mount the links a little closer together, effectively shortening the distance from chassis to axle for the upper links and adding a slight amount of caster. It doubt it would cause any driveshaft binding, but you might want to look at that if you think binding might be reducing the throttle "smoothness"
@CapeCrawlers
Жыл бұрын
Omg you’re a genius. I’ve still been chasing that binding issue and I wonder if that’s exactly what the root cause is. The aftermarket servo tray does pinch the links closer together by ~2mm I bet. The binding only happens when I turn the wheel, and to one side primarily. But perhaps that could still be the issue?

Awesome video man, it is now behaving exactly like I expected it would. I think as you stated there are much more budget friendly options to achieve the same end result. I question the need for that carbon fiber chassis but it sure does look cool =). I also wonder if the 66t Injora would have smoothed the throttle response out a bit, seems a little jumpy. It might just be the limitation of that ESC because it feels jumpy out of the box as well. The 66t while not quite as torquey, is smoother. Great build I am waiting on my parts to come in to start my build as well. Did you use the standard servo trays that come with the Injora kit, even thought they do not have the slots for the links? great content bud!
@CapeCrawlers
Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I did use the standard servo tray and the links threaded in perfectly on the outside of the tray, just like the four link conversion on the SCX24. I think you're right about the 66t. I may swap this out for my LGRP Reaper motor as that is super smooth. I also feel like something is binding and contributing to the jumpiness, but I can't pinpoint it. Let the tinkering begin!

@CapeCrawlers
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The torque twist is a tough nut to crack in this chassis. Generally stiffer springs in the shocks will mitigate twist, but on this rig it will also raise your chassis, which we don't want. You almost have to pick the lesser of two evils.

Thank you! I ended up removing the servo trays and going back to stock. But the aluminum four link tray worked well. I was chasing a binding issue which turned out to be the ESC and that's why I swapped the trays. Anyway, you thread a screw through the linkage into the outside of the servo tray, so one link on each outer part of the traditional linkage mount if that makes sense. I don't have a video specifically on it but I can make a short if the above isnt clear.

I installed a set on my Axial SCX24 Bronco and set them loose as you suggested (I think in another video), but I get a lot of slop in the steering. Are they actually supposed to be tightened and then there is just friction between the screw sleeve and steering knuckle? I hope that makes sense...

@@CapeCrawlers I ended up upgrading the entire thing due to a broken bolt into the plastic steering linkage. So I have an upgraded servo, with an aluminum horn, brass steering linkage and then the brass knuckles. When I back up the screws a little bit on the knuckles, it also gives them an up/down and side/side wiggle off of the axel housing. I believe that's the source of the slop as everything else feels tight.

It would be like Ford vs Ferrari, AX24 edition!
Out of the box the ax is so much more capable than an scx or fcx but when you fully upgrade an scx or fcx or ax they end up the same. Tiny comp chassis' already exist. We been running independent 4ws forever. Long travel shocks have been out for ages. Also remember the "new" ax stills runs a complete scx drive train. Unfortunately it also still runs those horrible electronics. If your new to the 24 game go for it grab an ax. But for me and many others its nothing new and current comp rigs will destroy it. This is why many say "we wanted more" and if not more give us something different. 7.5/10👍🤠👍

Question. I have a spektrum ground DX5C but it will not bind to cx1. Can you explain why and how to resolve. Thanks brother. Keep up the great work.

I don't know a whole lot about these transmitters, but I can see that the DX5C uses DSMR technology where the SLT2 transmitter that comes with the AX24 uses SLT technology, as does the stock receiver/esc. I don't think the stock rx/esc combo is compatible with the DSMR tech. But, like I said, I am no expert.

@@CapeCrawlers ok. I didn't realize that. I will check to see if there is a brushless conversion that will allow my transmitter. I want to go brushless anyway. Also sorry to bother but have you ever priced out building piece by piece vs buying stock 1/24 since we are pretty much replacing everything anyway. Lol. I'm thinking of sitting down and song that especially when I get my warthog in.
Good stuff...just nit picking...."dont wanna add rotational mass from wheel weights"...adds hesvier tires and rims...i have a motor enroute with more torque....Is it the esc that produces that loud whine alone?...or a combo of the motor and esc?
Question. Acx24 cx 1. Looking for shocks and high clearance links. I started to order the scx24 but noticed the length was different.

Check out RC Addiction 19. He's got some links out for the AX24. Any long travel double barrels shocks will fit. Since these are so long, if you're looking for more travel you'll want the 54mm or 58mm's. I haven't tried these yet but I've seen folks have good success with those.
Hay Adam I had a question about the Jeep wrangler how did you do the 4link in the front the y link is limiting my flex
@CapeCrawlers
Жыл бұрын
I bought the Injora aluminum high clearance link kit with the four link front. Also had the Injora servo tray that's threaded on each side which allows for the four link setup.
Starting to have 2nd thoughts on the shocks, when I get this. I read that this thing has 51mm shocks....what's 3 more mm just to get another set of those 54mm shocks? Which I'm starting to think about getting for this rig. Lol I just hope that both Treal & Injora come out with links & drive shafts for this specific rig, all in all, & definitely need weights for all 4 corners of this rig, as well.

What's another 7mm for 58's?! LOL I'm expecting a flood of links and brass and shocks for this thing soon. Treal and Injora act so fast!

@@CapeCrawlers even 58s. Lol But yeah, I'd expect that out of them.
I'm super new to crawlers and I was wondering what the purpose of overdriving just the front differential was and does it affect the rear diff at all?
@CapeCrawlers

The front tires spinning faster gives you a tighter turning radius and helps slightly with climbing 👍🏻
I changed out my servos for some EMAXX ones as well, but how did you adjust the trim for the rear steer? Mine sits crooked.
@CapeCrawlers
Жыл бұрын
I have not found a way to do that yet and according to the owners manual the trim function is only for the front wheels. I took my servo horn off with the rig turned on and tried my best to get it centered with the horn position. It's still not perfect however.

@@CapeCrawlers I've tried moving my servo horn to different positions with no luck. Maybe an adjustable steering linkage will help.
Would love to see you try and paint a clear ax24 body for her

I was scoping out the clear bodies earlier. I think I'll give it a go soon.
If you swap out your stock motor and esc/receiver combo for a furitek venom setup with a separate receiver and esc will you still have 4ws?
I have a question .Out of curiosity I have 2 furitek galaxy servos that I was thinking of installing, however stock servo tray is closed off is there an alternative tray that you have found that would work well with this application being they're a tad bit longer than the stock servos

My favorite is the MofoRC best servo mount ever. It's fully adjustable and flat across the back.

@Cape Crawlers thank you for the quick response 🙏 did you have to get different suspension links or anything special to get the stock links mounted as the stock tray has them sandwiched between 4 post
Can you make a video for the mini Orlandoo hunter kits and if you do can you please put a link in the description for all the electronics. This is just a video recommendation thank you

FYI the motor will not work with standard frame rails, the motor itself contacts and binds the linkage to where it is not usable. 10:41

Do you mean the stock metal frame rails? I've put two different 050 sized motors in this now and both seem to be working perfectly but I did this sequentially, with the motor coming after the frame rails.
So what did you use for the servo tray because I haven't found one that is it four link setup
@CapeCrawlers

I used an aluminum SCX24 tray from Amazon, but I have since gone back to the stock trays. For the SCX24 tray, I just threaded the AX24 links to the outside of the linkage mounts and that worked for the four link. But, it's closer together than stock, and I think that may have been causing some binding, so I switched back to stock.
Hey Adam , I’m installing the servos that I purchased off your link and I noticed they say analog is that ok? Or do I need the digital ones?
@CapeCrawlers

Analog is fine. Digital is slightly faster and a little more powerful, but it’s not really noticeable in my opinion.

Hey Adam, I finally have some money saved up, and i want to know if it is better to upgrade wheels and tires, or shocks / flex blades first? ( on an SCX24)
