Beautiful patterns my friend! You need to do another video with a little more information, example some scroll-cut, fawns-foot, straight-handle, etc. You have a great idea already, most people i sell blanks to ask for patterns, so if you are selling patterns, they can just make their own!

Sir how do you work out how long to make an axe handle? I inherited an axe with a long handle. The axe felt light and well balanced. On closer inspection the head of the handle was badly cracked just below the axe head (probably due to over striking). So I cut off the head and reset the head lower down the same handle, the old handle was rather long. It was a fair job though looked very different. But now the axe is very heavy and out of balance (top heavy) yet it is about 200mm (8”) shorter. I I stupidly didn’t take any before photos or measurements. I have looked online to find examples of the style of handle the axe had but no luck - yet they were rather common in the 70s. The handle patterns you show have a curve going to the back of the head with a straight front. My handle had that with a large amount of wood at the front too. I used to see this style of handle often when I was a boy yet can find no evidence of it now (alas). Do you have any ideas or information that might help? The axe head needs a new handle but how long should it be? Dose the timber used make a difference to the required handle length? I thought if I weighed just the head the handle should be just above that (to allow for shaving etc), but I just don’t know.
