AWS Route 53 CNAME vs Alias Records

Ғылым және технология

In a previous AWS video tutorial, you learned all about the core features of AWS Route 53 including the DNS functionality, health checking, and domain registrations features. You also learned about the key differences between Route 53 CNAME and Alias records as these are popular topics for AWS Certification exams. Watch it here: • DNS with AWS Route 53
This AWS video tutorial is a hands-on lesson where you'll learn how to create CNAME and Alias records in AWS Route 53. We'll test DNS resolution with CNAME and Alias records and set up an Amazon S3 static website to point an Alias record at.

Very easy to understand. I was struggling to understand the concept alias vs cname for weeks because google didn't help much with confusing texts. And I did not want to pay for my own domain to test this out. I screwed up many questions in this area for my associate solution architect practice papers. The standard definition of cname and alias from google was not helpful in answering scenario-based questions. Now I look forward to answering this kind of question especially for the real exam.

Such a great explaination and demonstration! but I'm strucking with something.. in R53 console we can either create A record and CNAME record and for the both records can have an alias enable option, what is the difference between A Record with alias enabled and CNAME record with alias enabled (if not related to the zoneapex)?

@@DigitalCloudTraining in a Solution Architect Exam practice I see that CNAME record is used when failing over RDS from primary DB to secondary db. "When failing over, Amazon RDS simply flips the CNAME record for your DB instance to point at the standby, which is in turn promoted to become the new primary." Is this an auto update in the hosted zone record itself?
