Those platforms and ramps look like a really useful and versatile shape. You did a really nice job with the panel patterns and detailing on the sides of the risers as well. Nice build!

Very nicely done. This is exactly what I see missing from many urban or industrial game boards. A simple method of elevation change without being an overly complicated build. I really like this video. A LOT! Keep up the great work. 👍👍

Cracking build! The simple yet good looking terrain that you can put on the table is 100x better than the overcomplicated, half-built and unpainted terrain that you may or may not ever get done. ( Disclaimer: I may or may not have projects of the latter type in a huge pile or something)

a tip so that construction cement doesnt bind as much, use windex or some kind of glass cleaner, makes it less sticky on your hands

I love the idea of using ramps, so much terrain is just blasted walls that seem like they'd be difficult for war minis to climb up.

I've seen a ton of videos on crafting layered stone hills and rock formations to give a table varying elevations to fight from. But it never occurred to me that the same effect could be achieved with large, boxy, industrial structures like these. I'm just getting into 40k and I've chosen Admech as my starting army, so this will definitely come in handy with thematic terrain building!

I decided to try this myself but for the boxes I actually decided to go to good will and buy whichever board games I could get with a good sturdy box for a dollar - then the terrain blocks can double as storage for scatter terrain.

Just started watching your work, its very nice and quality results. How well do the figures hold onto the tops with the metal plates under the tiles? Have you thought about adding magnets to the bottoms of the box/buildings and the underside of your other pieces? That would hold them in place when stacked on top of each other or to keep ramps/bridges in place. Looking forward to seeing what else you build.

Figures hold well enough to where they wont slide off if tilted like the ramp. I have added magnets to things like walkways, or tall terrain features that are likely to tip over, and it works great.

I was contemplating doing something similar for Frostgrave (texturing everything in small bricks made from foam) but I wasn't sure if it would actually work so I hadn't invested the time to experiment. Thanks for doing the hard part for me! lol

Some fantasy themed boxes and ramps would work well! Probably easy to add brickwork along the side of them. Although probably tedious depending on scale. Something more akin to a dungeon tile system in pattern maybe.

@@KnarbMakes That's actually what I had planned. The boxes would be two layers of foam core shy of being 12 inches square and one layer shy of 3 inches tall so that the foam core will make up the difference. All surfaces would be carved Dungeon Tile style to save time. The bottoms of the boxes would remain open to store scatter terrain.

Very inspirational how (seemingly) quickly you put together LARGE pieces of terrain with a very respectable level of detail, and I love the modular approach. Seems like the uniformity + greebling makes it reqlly forgiving when it comes to putting together a battlefield in new combinations. Any idea of the build time for these elements?

It took me about 3 evenings to build these from start to finish, needed to wait for the primer and after the wash in the painting step. Probably 8-9 hours time investment total... You can skip on a lot of the detail and cut that time down a lot, or you can spend twice as much and get them looking even better, the choice is yours

Some interesting design elements there and very well executed. But have you thought of making the tops removable so that other terrain can be stored within them, like your walkways from the other video? I've been mulling with ways to store more terrain in a set volume (like a box) for a while now & I think you've given me a good idea with these so thought I'd better share ;)

Yeah, check out Campaign Terrain for an example of how to make usable boxes. They had made a video at some point last year with that exact solution, It's a great idea.

Great video. I have a question for you. What type of glue would you use if you were to glue cardboard to plastic (pvc)?

You can take your pick really, Superglue should work well, so would hot glue for a slightly messier look. Just be sure to scuff up/sand and give the PVC some tooth before gluing it.

Yeah. I would just make them generic stone platforms with brickwork.

Lately, I've been using either oil or latex primers before painting. They do a great job on sealing the porous cardboard and give good adhesion for other materials.

Do those tin shears you used warp the metal at all? I noticed you make short cuts; the only shears I could find always curve the metal I cut.

The cutting length is quite small, and yes they indent the material a bit but its very pliable and easily straightened

Question: how are you cutting that cardboard like it’s no one’s business I’m struggling and I’m using the same type of knife

Very interesting, but I notice that your painting is always very desaturated, try underpainting before painting and apply a little less washes, that will make your painting more bright and shine, and not so opaque. what I do and this to paint miniature that is even more complicated, is paint everything in black, then give a generous dry brush of dark gray or gray, then make another dry brush of pale sand, but this time more towards the edges , starting to give lights, and finally a last dry brush of white to give highlights and a high definition to the whole concept, and when you go to paint with your colors,paint with the paint a little diluted, in this way all the colors you apply will give the shadows, medium tone and highlights without losing saturation. Take a test and tell me how you're doing, good luck!

Good build. Perfect for 40k. I nodded with enthusiasm when you used joint tape for your grids! (See my video ... kzread.info/dash/bejne/m6uMo5ptppW4p6w.html.) Since you asked me on Reddit, Necromunda needs lots of ladders. No wall should force fighters to run a long distance around to get to an enemy. Also you would need other buildings to connect to this big one. You speak well but your voice is quiet. I would increase your voice track's volume. And is it my imagination or is the video desaturated? Brighten it up if you can. Not like I'm an expert. Look at RaqRex for great, colourful videos. Anyway, thanks for this!

I saw that video! I had a bunch of this tape from some drywall patching, its a really good tip! Good point on the ladders, maybe I can add in some attachable ones randomly on each side. Thanks for the rest of the feedback too.
