Awesome Shop Air Filter

Ғылым және технология

Should have built this many years ago! FYI it weighs about 90 lbs. The squirrel cage and motor is about 25 lbs of that weight.

    Nice build! Remember that measuring diagonals and finding them equal does not guarantee that the corners are 90 degrees. A parallelogram has equal diagonals - and no 90-degree corners. Those big clamps should do the trick on this job, though. I really cringe when builders use diagonal measurements to check a foundation.

    Nice looking unit. You should really exhaust it outside though. You are capturing all of the large particulates, but still kicking the fine particulates (smaller than what your filters filter) and fumes back into the garage. Those are the things that make you twitch when you get older (I work in ship repair and all of the older welders have a shake to them). Also, if that is an attached garage that mess is making it's way into the house (there are ALWAYS air leaks from the garage to the house). No need to expose the wife and kid(s) to that.

    Great air filtration! Definitely need to build this for my shop. What are the specs of the blower fan? CFM? Great job again!

    I’d suggest you just get whatever surplus squirrel cage/furnace motor fan combination you can and build around that, you’re unlikely to find exactly the same thing that he did.

    If you used a belt driven motor that was this would the dust have an impact on the belt and such?

  • @JohnHarmon

    @JohnHarmon

    Жыл бұрын

    I doubt it because the motor is on the inside and the dust has to pass through the filter before it can get to it.

    Great job.... Why the 7amp's, is it because of the size of the breaker ? The bands saw table/stand worked out well...👍👍 Great video.... Thx

    My neighbor, who is an HVAC guy, said that the motor shouldn't draw more than 7 amps. I just wanted to make sure my design wasn't causing the motor to draw more power than it was designed for.

    It's about proper pressure so the motor doesn't spin too many rpms and draw more amperage than it's designed for and overheat. These units actually use less amps when the static pressure is proper. They are designed that way..

    Should've just made it out of wood,could have dropped 50lb at least.

    If I had used 1/2" baltic birch plywood, and had used no corner pieces for reinforcement (just joinery) then I estimate I would have saved a max of 31 lbs. The blower assembly alone is 27 lbs. When it comes to wood-working, I am not as well setup as I am for metal-working. I tend to overbuild stuff anyway... just ask my father-in-law. :) If I ever build another one I may have to give it a shot just for comparison. This unit works awesome though. Wish I would have built it years ago. Thanks for watching the video!
